  • So how are you guys enjoying this season of Felicity & Friends? I have seen exactly one episode, and granted I was at the gym so maybe I wasn’t paying close attention. But man, aliens in the DC world sure play it fast and loose, huh? You’d think posting even a single guard around kidnapped people would be mandatory. Not in ~tv land~ Anyway, Kotobukiya’s Arrow ArtFX+ was one of the figures we got to take out from behind the glass at Toy Fair. Look at his little arrows! He’s totally gonna attempt to shoot you with them but I doubt it would really hurt. Pew pew, watch out for tiny Arrow! Do you ever look at all these small scale superhero figures and imagine them trying to take down a normal-sized human in some sort of epic boss battle? And the human is you? No…. just me?

  • Wonder Festival is less than a week away, and you know what that means–teaser time! I feel like every year these pop up sooner and sooner. It used to start on Wednesday and Thursday, now we get them at the beginning of the week! Well, the better to spread ’em out, I guess. First up is Kotobukiya with 4 teasers. Two are of figures we already knew about: the protagonist from Persona 5 and RyuuuZU from Clockwork Planet. Then we have two new ones! There’s an ArtFX+ of Arrow (from the show, not the comics) and a new Lancer from Fate/Grand Order. Which is basically Caster Extra in a swimsuit? I’ll be honest, I have not the faintest clue what is going on with Fate anymore. [UPDATE] We have some teaser artwork for the Ms Marvel Bishoujo! This will be on display at Toy Fair (which we will be covering in person!), but might also make a WF appearance. [UPDATE 2] We also have Bishoujo Katana’s teaser! Thanks Marissa~ [via Kotobukiya]

  • Kotobukiya has done a lot of comic toys (that’s something of an understatement, huh?), but so far we’ve been basically restricted to actual comic and movie appearances. With the new wave of comic-based tv shows it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing more and more of them in the figure world, but I definitely didn’t expect one this big from Koto. They’ve announced license acquisition for Gotham, Green Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl. Phew, all 4 at once! No word on what exactly we’ll be getting. ArtFX? ArtFX+? Statues? Bishoujos?! It’s a mystery, but one I’m excited to uncover!

  • We’ve already seen a lot of what DC had on offer at Toyfair: Bombshells and Covergirls, TV and cartoon toys, and of course some new action figures. But there was more! Because their booth was a labyrinth of figures that you could never escape from. Just kidding, there were lots of exists, but it sure took a hell of a long time to finish shooting everything in it. There was really a little bit of everything here. Want a Deadman action figure? A super adorable black & white Batgirl statue? A badass motorcyle-riding Harley? The world’s weirdest Wonder Woman? A Green Arrow & Black Canary figure so sickly-sweet it makes me want to vomit? It’s all there, so check it out (and more!) in the gallery!

  • With the rise of DC tv shows like Gotham, Arrow, and The Flash, it’s absolutely no surprise that there’s been a rise in merchandise as well. It’s like the cardinal commandment of comics: if thy creation does not sell tons of shit, thou shalt get rid of it. Sniff, Dial H. And from what we saw at Toy Fair, DC is pumping out a ton of merch from these shows. Action figures, statues, they have it all! There are even things from Constantine, does anyone even remember that it is on anymore?! Check them all out in the gallery!

  • Kidrobot has been collaborating with Marvel for a while now, and at Toy Fair they announced that they’re teaming up with DC too! This seems to be a trend: it happened with Sideshow and Kotobukiya, so this doesn’t exactly come as a surprise. The announcements, however, are a mixed bag. Let’s start with the great: the Labbit line looks amazing and I want all of them right now! Their character miniseries, however, has highs and lows. They went with a very cutesy, almost infantile style that works well on some characters (kawaii Superman, ahh!), is kind of horrifying on some (the smiling Joker, nightmare fuel), and is dementedly cute on others (little Deadman, yes please). Others, like Wonder Woman, just look… off. If someone offers these un-blind boxed I will for sure snap up a few (Swamp Thing, come to momma).

  • There were a ton of new announcements in regards to DC Comics figures at the Kotobukiya panel: they announced a 1/6th scale Wonder Woman ArtFX, a Superman For Tomorrow 1/6th ArtFX coming in January 2014 for $119.99, a New 52 Batgirl 1/10th scale ArtFX+, and a Green Arrow 1/10th scale ArtFX+. Phew! Also shown off was the recently released Man of Steel ArtFX along with the ArtFX+ figures of Catwoman, Nightwing, Shazam, Black Adam, and Supergirl. It was also heavily hinted at that more members of the bat family will be seeing their way into the ArtFX+ line soon — maybe Batwoman or Damien? Last, but not least, they also premiered the sculpt of Batgirl, so be sure to go check that out in the gallery.

  • We’ve already taken a look at DC Collectibles’ Bombshell line and their Ame-Comi girls, but of course that’s not all they had on hand at New York Comic Con! While they’re certainly producing less figures now than when they were DC Direct, their focus has narrowed and the statues they are putting out seem more refined and in line with current comic trends. The stars of the show (for me at least!) were the two Sandman figures: one gorgeous piece of Death, and a re-issue of their Death & Dream bookends. They also had an impressively large horse-riding Batman, along with a statue from the brand-new show Arrow. The Batman Black & White line was on display, along with the Metallic Superman statues (though Frank Miller’s one looks just…. weird). Of course there were a handful of New 52 action figures, along with a sultry Arkham City Harley Quinn. The Bombshells are still my favorite thing they had on display, but I am totally in love with that Death statue!

  • DC Direct had their Batman figures on display, as well as Ame-Comi and the Spy vs Spy customs, but that’s not all they had to offer! The usual plethora of action figures were there as well, featuring characters from Brightest Day and Justice League. The Batman Black & White figures were on display as well, with a ton of stellar designs. The monochrome color palette really stood out against the rest of the booth, and these figures drew a lot of attention. The Covergirls line was out in full force, with Raven, the newest addition, as well as Starfire, Hawk Girl, and Armored Wonder Woman. The strangest thing on display had to be the new figures based on MAD’s mascot Alfred E. Neuman. He’s all dressed up in several different superhero outfits, and I have to admit that they look a bit freaky! Check it all out in the gallery below and leave your comments too!
