Guts Archive

  • Time and time again I’ve expressed my love for Berserk here on Plastikitty; it’s one of the first anime that I got into and to this day it still has a special place in my heart. Well, boy was I surprised when I got an email from Gecco showing off a brand new 1/6th scale Guts that looks freaking amazing! I’ve been lusting after Good Smile Company’s giant Guts statue, but the price is way too much for me and the size is way too large, but Gecco’s offering is much more reasonable in both of those regards. Guts here is standing in his signature sword-on-shoulder pose and is decked out head to toe in impressively detailed weapons, armor, and clothing. I also love the bit of extra detail on the base as well as it just adds so much more to an otherwise static figure. And let’s also not forget the nice little addition of Puck hidden away in Guts’ bag! There’s also two heads included for Guts, one that’s a bit more business and one that’s a full on crazy mode, so that you can display him however you’d like. No word on a release date or price yet, but I know I definitely need to bring this guy home!

  • Oh Berserk… I have such fond memories of this series as it was one of the first shows we watched in my high school anime club and I will never forget when we all sat in the classroom with only the creepy red light in the room on watching the finale while one of the members sat in the fetal position rocking back and forth crying from the intensity. The show had such an impact on us all that we actually changed our anime club name to The Band of the Hawk since our school mascot was the Hawks. Good times. But I digress. Berserk has long been one of my all time favorite series, the art is phenomenal, the story is amazing, and the characters are so incredibly unique. Oh and Guts. And his giant sword. His giant sword is so iconic and I feel like this figure just completely embodies just how large and imposing and powerful Guts and his sword are. For comparison’s sake, Guts here stands about 8 inches or so taller than the Colossal Titan statue! The detail is also astounding to the point that internal organs have veins and the sliced open bones have marrow sculpted and painted. I would kill to own this piece, but sadly the hefty price tag, which will either be around $700-1000 due to sheer size, will most likely have to keep me away, sadly.

  • Something people have wanted for a long time, but never really were able to get, are figures of the main characters from Berserk. The Art of War figures were quite pricey as they’re polystone and when Max Factory started work on the figma line and hinted at larger scale figures, people were excited as they were hoping they’d be standard PVC and relatively reasonably priced. Well, all of those hopes and dreams just shattered today. Guts and Femto statues were announced and shown off by Max Factory and, you guessed it, they’re polystone. Don’t expect these to be cheap as both are rather large and intricate. I’m loving the detail on both and would love to add them to my collection, but the whole polystone aspect makes me second guess as they’ll be quite fragile on top of every other issue. As much as I adore Berserk, as do many others, I feel like these are going to be a hard sell. [via Wonderful Hobby Life For You’s Twitter 1 | 2]

  • If you are surprised at the fact that there are quite a few Kill la Kill garage kits making an appearance at Wonder Festival this summer… well, you probably haven’t been paying attention to figure trends at all. In fact, I’m kind of surprised at how few there are! Of course we have quite a few, but most of the focus is on Ryuuko with only a handful of Satsukis and one lone Mako. Oh, and THE CUTEST GUTS. Seriously, I want it so bad. [via Odeya, fg-site, Iwayura Extra, Figureneet]

  • Max Factory has been having something of a love affair with Guts figma versions, so it really shouldn’t be a surprise that they are now making a scaled figure of him… but considering how rare male scaled figure are, I’m still shocked! Especially since this is so big and elaborate. No boys standing around here. In fact, I think Aoba might have some competition for best male figure. Especially since there are guts on the base. On Guts’ base. Tehe. [via Good Smile Company’s Facebook]

  • Ahh, Berserk. While it’s certainly an older franchise, the reluctance of the artist to actually… you know… finish the manga makes it a perpetual source of figure inspiration. That and the new movies. However, for a long time we only had those insanely overpriced Art of War resin figures. But now that Max Factory is pumping out figmas from the franchise, I fear it will never stop–I mean, we already have three figmas of Guts! They had his armored & Hawks versions on display at Toy Fair, along with the figmas of Casca and Griffith. Then the wall ‘o announcements: Void, Sian, Conrad & Ubik will be joining the lineup as well! But where’s Puck?!

  • When Good Smile Company & Co announced their September delays, I’m sure we were all thinking the same thing. Hey, that’s not so bad! Could be much worse, right? Well this is Good Smile we’re talking about. So not only could it be worse–it’s gonna be worse. Oh yeah, we’ve got more coming. Not a whole lot more, but enough to make me let out an audible sigh. And unlike most of them, only one is getting bumped back to October–Max Factory’s Nyaruko. The others are pushed way back to November! Ugh, I don’t even want to think about snowy weather. And holidays. Uuugh. Anyway, the figures getting hit with delays are the newest figma Guts, FREEings Mei Misaki, Mu-21, & FREEing’s Marie Mamiya. Not so bad, especially since I’m sure a few of thouse *cough*FREEingfiguresasidefromMu12*cough* weren’t on a ton of people’s order lists. But Nyaruko, noooo! [via GSC]

  • Well, we already showed you a big group of new figmas via the Avengers and Spider-Man, but that’s not all there was on hand. Like Nendoroids, there were a metric ton of figmas at WonFest as well. First up, figma 200 was finally unveiled as a Miku version 2.0. Keeping in the Vocaloid vein we also finally got a figma of Kaito, and he looks quite nice. Keeping with the standards there’s a new Strength, a new Nanoha and Fate with a Hayate to go with them, a casual clothes Kyoko, and another version of Guts from Berserk. Hidamari Sketch x Hanikamu received three new figmas in Michiko, Sae, and Hiro all of which are quite cute. Also coming in at three figmas is Vividred Operation with two versions of Isshiki Akane (one casual, one battle), and a figma of Kuroki Rei as well. From Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon is a pretty awesome figma of Honda Futayo, and rounding out the girls are Amy from Gargantia and a new Idolm@ster line. Rounding out the guys and robots are Yuichi Shima, whom I’m unfamiliar with, a Zombie from Dawn of the Dead, Guyver, El Urakan, Cobra the Space Pirate, Bruce Lee, and last, but certainly not least, Marth from Fire Emblem. I’m glad to see more Nintendo figmas and I think Marth is the right direction to go in for the next release and I can’t wait to see how he comes out. Also, Bruce Lee, while completely random, is also looking completely awesome and the amount of detail on the Guyver sculpt is simply stunning. Now that you know who they all are, head on over to the gallery and check them all out! There’s quite a lot! [via Good Smile Company’s Wonderful Hobby Life For You page and syukyu2ka’s Twitter]

  • We’ve already shown you the big-deal figmas like Goddess Madoka, Soniko, the Avengers line, Kid Icarus, Labrys, Racing Miku, and the BRS girls, but of course there are lots more where that came from! In fact, there’s a whole lot of new, but let’s start with the stuff we already knew about. Figma Nyarlathotep is painted as is Henrietta, the new Guts is sculpted, and that Nanoha is complete, along with 3 other Nanoha figmas! There are two Fates (loli and grown up) and an announced Hayate Yagami. So, onto the new. We’ve got two figmas from Sword Art Online, Asuna Yuuki and Kazuto Kirigaya/Kirito. To go with Labrys there’s a new Aegis, this time based on her Arena design. We’re also getting a male figma (gasp!) of Cobra from Space Adventure Cobra, as well as two Muv-Luv figmas of Yui and Cryska! Last but not least are two new Archetype figmas, which are essentially blank for you to customize. [via GSC_GUMA]

  • In a surprise move, Max Factory announced a figma of Guts from Berserk back in September, and then followed up with his rival Griffith. That seemed to be the end of it, but months later we are now getting word of a third addition to the line! Granted it’s not a new character, but Guts in his awesome Berserk Armor. I didn’t really like the first edition, but this one has armor with kitty ears! Or, you know, ferocious griffon/dog ears, but it looks an awful lot like a kitty to me. [via 2chan]
