Gwendolyn Archive

  • Ah, Flare: they make your faves but never paint them, and when they do, they’re insanely expensive. Can you tell I have a love/hate relationship with them? They seem to be moving at a solid pace with some of the announcements from last WonFest, though: Saber Bride and Gwendolyn are both painted, and we have a Nier update. Sadly, no news on Asuka or Blindi, but we do have some new figures: Golden Darkness, a new Elin, and Odin Sphere minis! [via amiami & pederisan]

  • Are you ready, guys? Because Wonder Festival has begun! Actually, it’s about half an hour away, but companies love to make me miserable by tweeting out their own stuff before doors even open. Yayy. First up today is Aquamarine, who has a small but nicely curated collection of figures. I of course love the Caroline & Justine the most, so presh so mean. We’ve also got IDOLM@STER, Girls und Panzer, Galko-chan, Sakura Wars, an announcement from Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka??, and a surprise Tony Taka gal. [UPDATE] with an absolutely STUNNING Gwendolyn, along with Asuna and a few other cuties. [via Aquamarine’s Twitter]

  • Ahh, Alter. I have almost entirely sworn off buying figures, but when I am tempted it’s Alter at least 50% of the time. Something about them just really gets me in my figure-loving soul. And this event is no exception! While they only had a few goodies on hand, they were all absolutely gorgeous: from their stunning new Gwendolyn to the unbearably adorable Anzu Futaba, Alter still has it going on. Of course there were no big surprises. We have their usual go-to franchises: Fate (this time it’s a casual Lancer), IDOLM@STER, Love Live! (I never stop wanting these girls, sigh), Free!, and Tales of. Plachta from Atelier Sophie was definitely a nice surprise, as I didn’t expect her to turn out so beautifully based on the sculpt. [UPDATE] Added some lovely bonus pictures from Hobby Maniax [via Dengeki & AmiAmi]

  • Guys, I think Flare finally got me. I keep insisting, “No, too expensive, don’t need it!” But this year, I want everything so bad. Mostly because it’s almost entirely Tony Taka, which I can always get behind. Swimsuit versions of Won Pairon and Altina Mel Sylphis, and they’re doing a cute teacher (?!) Sakuya. The Rei from their teasers is here (but no sign of Noah yet, weird) and they WILL INDEED be doing a matching Asuka!! Yuss. We also have the beautiful dress Gwendolyn from last WonFest sculpted, and announcements for YoRHa No. 2 Type B from Nier: Automata and an original character from Happoubi Jin. [UPDATE] Finally found Noah, and added Saber Bride as well! [via Hobby Search]

  • We’ve already shown you Pokemon figmas, Tracer and Genji from Overwatch, some new Fate/Grand Order figmas, Persona 5 figmas, and Utena, but it’s not a Wonder Festival if Max Factory and co don’t shove every possible franchise ever down our throats in poseable 1/12th scale form! When it comes to video games, we’ve got a lot between Crow from Gravity Daze 2, Ulala from Space Channel 5, Gwendolyn from Odin Sphere, Bloodborne and Dark Souls III, Ludens (who knows if this is even a game, but whatever), Kusanagi Kyo and Yagami Iori from King of Fighters, and the painted Metroid Prime 3: Corruption Samus. Then we’ve got like the entire cast of Love Live! Sunshine!! with Matsuura Kanan, Kurosawa Dia, Watanabe You, Tsushima Yoshiko, Kunikida Hanamaru, Ohara Mari, and Kurosawa Ruby so that you can recreate the show yourself a la Robot Chicken. Then continuing on with the anime we’ve got Rem and Ram from Re:Zero aka the same sculpt twice with super minor differences, but everyone’ll only buy Rem since she actually had a storyline unlike Ram, Tanya Degurechaff from Saga of Tanya the Evil (because Japan still has a hard on for little girls dressed up as the enemy from WWI or WWII), Klaus and Leonardo from the new season of Kekkai Sensen, Yukari Akiyama from Girls Un Panzer, and Misako Akeno from High School Fleet. Then from KanColle we’ve got three new entries with Yuudachi, Tokitsukaze, and Fubuki. FREEing also had a few figmas on hand with their massive Iron Fossil from Dariusburst as well as the Bubblegum Crisis Moto Slave and a figma ex:ride of Ray from Kikou Souseki Mospeada. Then over in experimental land we’ve got the amazing sculptor Takayuki Takeya taking on Devilman. Oh, but that’s not all. No. We also got *the best figma of all time*. What is it might you ask? What could be better than stuff like The Thinker? Oh, I’ll tell you. It’s the E233 Series Train. Yes, that’s right, it’s a literal figma of a train. Now everybody better hop on the figma train hypetrain before it leaves the station because woo boy I hope they make more trains to keep on with the ridiculous factor of having a figma train. • Max Factory plays it a bit more coy than their sister company GSC. Sure, some of their teasers are clear and concise, but they also give us near-unidentifiable pixellated blogs. What a tease! This year there’s a good mix. Some are so obvious: figmas Gwendolyn, the Hunter from Bloodbourne, Crow from Gravity Daze 2, Yukari from Girls und Panzer, scales of Murakumo from KanColle and Urashima Kotetsu from Touken Ranbu. But what about the blobs? Well, one set is clearly Rem & Ram (scaled, it appears!), and another is… a big ‘ol mess of I don’t know. Any ideas? We also know that they will have a figma of Leonard Watch on display! [via the figma blog]

  • Wonder Festival is always full of surprises, and this certainly comes as a shock! I mean, we are getting the remastered Odin Sphere, but I certainly didn’t expect this to happen. Max Factory will be making Gwendolyn in figma format! I’d greatly prefer a Gwen scale from them but beggars can’t be choosers. And also I’m pretty sure we’ll have at least one new figure of her in the coming year. [via

  • Phat! Company’s action figure line, the chibi but-not-Nendoroid-chibi Parforms, hasn’t seen a ton of attention. We got Aegis and Labrys from Persona 4, and… not much else. But it seems like they’re continuing on with Atlus-published games because they are now working on Gwendolyn from Odin Sphere! Gwen is one of those characters who doesn’t get a ton of figures, but seems to be consistently popular over the years. Alter has re-released their figure of her at least 3 times, and we have the lovely Yamato one too. So I guess it’s not a huge surprise that Phat! took her on. The sculpt looks great, and while I’m not crazy about the Parform proportions I’m looking forward to seeing this painted. [via Atlus’ Twitter]

  • Yesterday, one of our awesome readers pointed out that we haven’t done a loot post in a while. And I realized this was true, as our last was for our August haul. August! This is due to a number of different factors: we moved a few months ago and our last few batches of figures were delivered to several different locations, and then Stephen’s hard drive died and several loot pictures are still trapped in limbo. However, we do have almost all of our December loot here (January hasn’t even shown up yet!), so we gathered it up to show you guys! So hit the jump and let’s see what goodies we managed to get in the last month of 2011.
