Homura Akemi Archive

As much as I loathed Good Smile Company’s Maiko Madoka (for a variety of reasons: mainly the terrifying face, but also stupid exclusive for no reason), I was kind of hoping they’d continue the line. Mostly because I am not as worn out of the Madoka girls as I am of, say, Saber or Miku. Bring on a little more Puella Magi, GSC, we can take it! Also I wanted Homura in cute clothing, okay?! So sue me.
Well, no surprise here–in fact, I’m just amazed it took them this long. That’s right, Maiko HomuHomu is happening! I adore the art, and I really don’t think they can screw up her face like they did on Madoka. And yes, I am hoping for Mami too. And a Maiko Nendoroid to go with Madoka’s. Ugh, I just can’t get enough–and with Rebellion in theaters, I’d put on my Madoka raincoat if I were you.

It’s no secret that I’m a rabid fan of the garage kit maker Grizzry Panda, who consistently brings us awesome and innovative sculpts. His main focus used to be on Miku Hatsune, but recently he’s been branching out a bit more. Of course my favorite of Grizzry’s sculpts is the Ultimate Madoka, and for a long time I’ve been praying for an Ultimate Homura to match.
Well… that’s not what we are getting today, but it’s something even better! A two-part figure featuring both Madoka and Homura in lovely white dresses snuggling up on a bench. I’m sure the Madoka-Homura shippers are fainting at the sight of this lovely piece, but even if you don’t want those two to live happily ever after it’s just so sweet! We only have the 3D rendering now, but both will be available for purchase at Treasure Festa in Ariake 10 on December 23rd.

Another month, another set of magazine scans! But this is no ordinary month, oh no. We’ve got a roller coaster ride of emotions going on here. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll rip out your hair, you will sob with joy at a particular announcement from MegaHouse. Or, well, I did. (Not really because crying about figures is a little weird but my soul wept at a certain sculpt here. You’ll know which one when you get to it QUEEN’S GATE I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU.)
So hit the jump to see what all the fuss is about! And, you know, to see if any of this month’s ladies catch your eye.

Lawson, a chain of convenience stores in Japan, is starting to like Madoka Magica almost as much as they love Evangelion. They’ve done some fancy exclusive figures from the series before, bringing us Pettankos in school outfits and gym uniforms. Apparently they’re not very creative because we are getting a second dose of gym uniforms, this time in poses very similar to those cute stackable trading figures Kotobukiya does. Seeing as how Kotobukiya does figures from Lawson all the time… I’m pretty sure that’s what these are.
Of course they are lottery prizes so you will have to go to Japan to have a shot at these for “retail” and you don’t even want to know how much a full set would cost you on the aftermarket. If you are trying for some strange reason to get a complete MM collection just pretend these don’t exist. Trust me, your wallet will thank you.

Do you like yukatas? Do you like pretty girls in yukaas? How about… sets of pretty girls in yukatas? THEN MAN OH MAN IS FREEing THE COMPANY FOR YOU. Thought the just announced set of Soniko pals was enough? Wrong. What about the Madoka set? I mean, she is here and painted, along with the Homura sculpt? WRONG. What about the Fate/Stay Night ones, I mean we haven’t seen Saber Alter yet! Oops well they forgot about her. But we DO have: Tamaki Kousaka; Inori; Nagi from Kannagi; Fate, Nanoha & Hayate (announced); Sasami Tsukuyomi and Mashiro Shiina. All. In. Yukatas.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE. Yagyu Jubei (colored!), Rin, Len & Kaito (BOYS?!) in Senbonzakura gear (announced, no sculpts), Percival from Eiyuu*Senki (announced), Kaworu Nagisa (sculpted, uhnf), Rei Ayanami (announced), bunnygirl Rias Gremony (sculpted & huge), the ribbon gals from Kono Naka ni Hitori (painted), Akiho Senomiya (sculpted) and Akiko Himenokouji (sculpted) along with all the Sword Art Online figures. Holy crap FREEing, slow it down a little! Also, that Tama-nee. Be still, my heart.
[UPDATE] Saber Alter is indeed sculpted, but wsas marked DNF so we can’t show her off.

Have you ever sat down with your morning cup of coffee/tea/tisane/etc and thought to yourself “You know what this really needs? Magical girls!” If so you probably work for the company that’s making these because come on, it’s like the weirdest idea ever. Madoka on your cup of tea. But hey, I like tea (a little too much, there are over 300 different kinds of loose leaf in my apartment) so I am all for this strange turn of events.
Now Madoka, Homura, Mami, Kyoko, Kyuubey and yes, even Sayaka can perch upon the rim of your teacup and/or coffee mug and stare into your soul while you consume caffeine-laden beverages. How delightful! And for only ¥400 a pop! Sign me up for this action.

…get it? Because they are literally seals? I hope you weren’t expecting anything dirty.
I’m not really sure why someone decided to make Madoka Kaname and Homura Akemi from Madoka Magica into, well, seals, but I sure am glad they did. I mean, they just reek of cuteness overload. The little chubby cheeks, the squishy seal bodies, the FACES. Dear lord, just looking at them for too long will make your teeth rot. So if someone could jut, um, get me a few of these that would be great.

One of the big kits at Winter Wonder Festival was Lunar Farside’s Ultimate Homura–not necessarily because of the sculpting prowess, but just on the basis of the character and outfit. I mean, Goddess Madoka has been wildly popular, and Homura as a character even more so, and it makes sense that even this sub-par sculpt would get a lot of fanfare. As you can tell, I’m not a fan–I much prefer the custom version of her PVC.
But a talented painter can make all the difference, and the shots we are looking at today are absolutely stunning! The painjob itself is sharp and lovely, especially her wings and the detail on her stockings. Of course the shots themselves are gorgeous which helps a lot. I still don’t love this kit, but this is definitely helping push me more into the “almost like” territory. Now if only Grizzry Panda would make and Ultimate Homu to go with his Madoka… speaking of which, we’re going to have a gallery of her on the site very soon!

Penguin Parade’s Pettanko line has rehashed the Madoka girls many times: in gym outfits, school uniforms, and of course in their magical girl gear. Now they’re bringing them back a fourth time, but thankfully not in a fourth set of outfits: what would that even be? School swimsuit pettankos? This time, they’re mini! That’s right, the Pettanko line is shrinking down to trading figure size.
This line of 10 figures features all 5 girls in 2 different outfits: school and magical girl. A case of 10 will retail for ¥6,800 with an August release: kind of steep, but you do get a whole lot of figures for that price! Sadly it also means no secrets… I was hoping for mini Kyuubey or ultimate Madoka.

[Note: the following post contains Madoka Magica spoilers]
Remember that amazing modded ‘You Are Not Alone’ Homura that added in her witch wings? Well, we only had a few shots back then but now there are more! So many more, it’s making me a bit sad. In, you know, a “why didn’t Good Smile make these?!” kind of way. Because really, they look like they are made of lightweight plastic, certainly they could have stuck some in the box. Then again, maybe I could make some myself… ah who am I kidding, I’m not handy at all!
