I’ve gotten to a point where I really hate Wonder Festival teasers. It’s like when you are a little kid and you peek at your Christmas presents: it ruins the surprise! But Good Smile Company just loves to bombard us with teaser after teaser, and Mikatan went all out this year so let’s dive right in. We have peeks at only two scaled figures, the just-announced Uzuki Shimamura and yet another Madoka Kaname (kill me now), this time a dynamic version of her in her regular outfit! It’s based on art of all 5 of the main girls… you know what that means.
As for Nendos, we have a ton. Quite a few from last WonFest are updated: Aegis is scupted, Strength is painted & sculpted, Aya is finished, and Rina Ozawa is sculpted! As for the new we’ve got Mikasa Ackerman from Attack on Titan (no surprise there), Makoto Naegi from Dangan Ronpa (who is only kind of new because we’ve seen him before), Saber Alter, Tomoko Kuroki from Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaete mo Omaera, and Sakura Mai from Photokanon. But don’t worry, I’m sure they’ve got 20 other new Nendos to show off at the event.

Figma Strength’s road to production has been long and rocky: she was first announced at Winter Wonder Festival, but after that she pretty much vanished while the other TV Animation figmas, Dead Master and Black Gold Saw, went up for order. Then in May’s magazine scans there were rumors that her design was just too difficult, and she was being cancelled!
Well obviously that is not the case because here she is! Strength is actually my least favorite of the BRS girls: I find her kind of… weird, and without the creepy elegance of the rest of the group. But Max Factory has done a great job here, and now I don’t just want her I NEED HER. I mean oh my god that crazy face. Perfection. Sadly her pricetag is totally insane: ¥5,800! $60 for a figma?! But her release is in January, so you have a while to save up for this demented cutie.

While I am a fan of huke’s designs for the Black Rock Shooter universe, there’s a certain sameness that permeates all his works. Of course characters drawn by the same artist will look alike, but the BRS girls go a little beyond that. Same exact body type, same face, same expression, annoyingly similar clothing when it comes to some of them. So I am a big fan of Chariot, one of his girls who looks nothing like any of the others! She’s quite popular but so far the only figure of her we have is her Nendoroid, shown off at WonFest.
Now we are getting a preview of Chariot, and she looks lovely! So much detail for a Nendoroid sculpt. She also comes with expressions you can actually tell apart, a first in the BRS world. And accessories as well–her shield, macaroons, and the intimidating tank named… Mary. What? Well, Mary is pretty cool, and she even has two expressions of her own! The most terrifying part? They’re swappable with any Nendoroid Petit.

December was (obviously) the last month of 2012, and boy was it a doozy. Even with the massive amount of delays that came late in the year it was just totally jam-packed with releases. In fact, this might actually be our biggest month of orders… ever. Well, maybe excluding July of 2010, where we had an entire wall of loot from SDCC. But in terms of imports, yeah, it’s a bit overwhelming! So hit the jump to check out all the goodies.

Have I mentioned how much we love Good Smile Company’s Insane Black Rock Shooter? Because we really love her. And thankfully Good Smile isn’t killing the interest of fans with the Saber Zero treatment–in fact, this is the first gallery I’ve seen of IBRS in a while! But really, a figure like this deserves some juicy detail shots and oh boy do we have a ton of them. Akiba has even dedicated like 10 to her totally non-existent butt.
The more I look at this figure, the more impressed I am by the sculpting. So much detail! And I love that she’s so big that their usual setup didn’t fit her so they had to pull a Lechery. Mm, check out those background lines. And is it just me, or does her leg armor give off a Dark Souls vibe? Or maybe I’ve just spent too much time in that world. Check out all the shots in the gallery!

[Editor's Note: You may have noticed that the PVC Pre-Order Roundup went missing for a few weeks. Due to medical reasons and the bustle of the holiday season we were unable to put in the large amount of time this feature takes. After all, it's just two of us! But now we're back for the last roundup for 2012.]
This was an absolutely spectacular week for figures. While we were all being generally lazy, opening presents and cooking elaborate dinners Japan was saving up the best pre-orders of 2012 for last. I mean, Mistral and Insane Black Rock Shooter in the same week?! Not to mention the gorgeous Cryska, along with many other pretty ladies. Hit the jump to check them all out!

So we all know how pretty Good Smile Company’s Insane Black Rock Shooter is, but the question on everyone’s mind is… how much will she cost?! Well apparently she was in magazine scans that someone just forgot to upload, and now we have it plus all of her info. She’ll be ¥13,800, which is really not that bad given how absolutely massive she is. Her official height is 11″ tall crouching down, I can’t even begin to imagine how much space she’ll take up with those twintails & cannon. She’ll be coming out in June!

HNNNNNNNNGGGGG. I am having some hardcore figure feels.
*ahem* So, ever since Good Smile Company’s Insane Black Rock Shooter was unveiled at Wonder Festival, people have been in an uproar over it because she’s beautiful and perfect and oh my god why is she not in my life right now. Well, that’s how I thought before the paint. Now? I would do horrible things to own her. Oh sweet baby Jesus is she gorgeous.
The paint is superb, the sculpting (done by Kiking) is beyond fantastic, and of course she has her Insane Lance Cannon and Sword along with an epically large base. How much space is she going to take up? How much will she cost?! I don’t even care just gimmie. Though on the good news side, it seems like she will be a regular release and not a GSC exclusive as some feared! Orders open on the 26th, so she can be a late Christmas present for all us figure collectors who have been good this year.

Sometimes, a design can go too far. Sometimes you need to step back and say “hey, do we really need neon green giant roses around her knees?” The answer to that question is always no, Huke. Sigh. I have been on board the Black Rock Shooter train since the first figure, and in fact own every piece of figure merchandise from the show except for one petit set. You know, the really boring one where they’re just humans. But honestly, I prefer “just humans” to this frilly monstrosity.
There are a lot of good ideas here, but they don’t mesh together. Neon green everywhere, a wedding veil, frills out the wazoo. It’s just too much going on! The scythe, however, I can get behind. But for some reason the overdone design seems a lot more apparent on the figma than the Nendoroid. More room for detail, I suppose. Of course she doesn’t even come with much: 3 faces that all look the same (bored, slightly angry and bored, eyes closed), her scythe, and some chains. She’ll retail for ¥3,800 with a May release, and expect orders to open tonight.
