Jason Voorhees Archive

  • I have always loved horror as a genre. It started with childhood fun (Goosebumps, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, Are You Afraid of the Dark, etc) and has progressed to the point where I now have a list of my favorite deaths in horror movies (barbed wire in Suspiria #1). So suffice to say, I really love horror movie figures too. Like this giant Jason Voorhees! Think of all the fun you could have with this lil guy. Picture this: you have guests over, they’re staying in your fancy guest bedroom. You sneak in during the night and leave Jason on the bedside table so they wake up to pure horror. Haha, fun times! But anyway, what’s your favorite horror movie death?

  • I will be the first to admit that I have been less than enthusiastic about Kotobukiya’s Horror Bishoujo line from the very first announcement. I think it has a lot of potential, but I’m not digging the gender-swapping of two iconic stars–at least, not with Shunya, king of cheesecake, at the helm. I was so disappointed by Freddy (not quality-wise, but rather the pose & outfit) that my expectations for Jason were pretty low. Thankfully, I am digging this one a lot more! The pose is much stronger, and she’s intimidatingly muscular. My one gripe would be the pants ripped strategically for a view of her inner thighs and butt, but it’s Shunya we’re talking about. We can’t get everything we want. [via Kotobukiya’s Facebook]

  • WonderCon was this weekend, and while Stephen and I would love to attend every convention… well, we sadly can’t! But there are always others hard at work pumping out news, so thankfully we can always bring you juicy new info. This time around there’s some Bishoujo updates! The sculpt for Jason Voorhees looks near finished, and we have a rough one for Nina Williams. But the big news is both the announcement AND art reveal for Batwoman! I expected she’d join the lineup soon, seeing as how we already have many of the villains, Batgirl, and the full Birds of Prey lineup. I’m so happy the pose isn’t cheesecake’d up, she looks lovely. • Well, this is an odd situation, indeed. This art wasn’t supposed to be revealed until New York Toy Fair a week from now, but I guess due to unforeseen circumstances we’re getting it a bit early. A few days ago at a Toy Fair in Europe, someone took a picture and leaked this artwork, but, as it was a leak we refrained from posting it. Now, though, as Wonder Festival was occurring, Shunya Yamashita snuck this artwork up to his twitter, presumably as an early release due to the leaks, which Kotobukiya was most certainly aware of. Anyway, onto the artwork itself. Back at New York Comic Con we had the reveal that Freddy and Jason would be making their transition to the bishoujo line and on Halloween a few days later we had the outlines of the artwork. Now that we get to see the whole thing, I’m in love with both. I love Jason’s attitude, axe, and face peeking out from behind the trademark hockey mask, and Freddy’s shirt somehow became sexy, the hat is awesome, and her hand is even more amazing. I know that unlike practically everyone else I’m most certainly sold on these because they mix the source material and the bishoujo lines perfectly, but what do you think about this odd collaboration? Let us know in the comments! [via Shunya Yamashita’s Twitter]

  • When we announced that Kotobukiya was making Bishoujos of horror icons Freddy and Jason, it seemed like no one (off of our website, of course!) really believed us. Sure, there’s an image of Freddy and Jason’s signature weapons and it was part of their Bishoujo announcement and it’s clearly drawn by Shunya but omg it’s just too weird, right? Well as promised, Halloween has rolled around and we’ve gotten official confirmation (for a second time)! Kotobukiya is showing off the silhouettes for both of these big bads, and they look very intriguing. Freddy definitely looks very cheesecake, while Jason gets a more menacing pose. I’m absolutely dying to see the full reveal! Get it, dying? Because they’re horror films? And it’s Halloween? [via Kotobukiya’s Facebook]

  • If the title of this post made you scratch your head and say “WHAT NOW?” you’re probably not alone. Kotobukiya’s Movie Bishoujo line has certainly taken us to some interesting territory, like Ghostbusters and Men In Black, but I’m sure most people never thought we’d be making the descent into horror films. But, well… here we are! At the very tail end of their panel an image popped up quickly, with the promise of more info on October 31st, but it’s clear that this is going to be a very big deal. I mean… sexy Freddy & Jason. You know you want to see what Shunya is going to do with that!
