  • Kotobukiya is perhaps the best company at tailoring their content based on location. At a Japanese event like Wonder Festival it’s almost all anime/game girls, with a smattering of comic content-usually focused on the Bishoujos. But for a US event like Toy Fair, man oh man, it’s a comic fan’s dream. They brought lots of DC-related goodies to the event, including the brand spanking new Joker ArtFX+ you can see in the header. Personally, I don’t really like New 52 Joker, but the design with the gun behind the back is pretty nifty. We also have the Batman V Superman statue, the Justice League ArtFX+, and tons more. Check it all out in the gallery!

  • We’ve already seen a bit of Kotobukiya’s New52 Villain ArtFX+ line at New York Comic Con, but it turns out they had a whole lot of updates on it at the panel. Like, way more than I was expecting. We got the Joker sculpt (definitely not a surprise–he’s like the #1 DC villain, so of course we’re getting him!), and this is their first figure of him with the jacked up face. There are two versions: an exclusive half-shaven head one, and a regular release. Then we have two announcements: Bizarro and Sinestro! I was really hoping that the Bizarro art wasn’t just a tease, and indeed we are getting him! I hope Sinestro joining the line means we might get some Red Lanterns. Rage Kitty, plz.

  • So we’ve seen a lot from Good Smile already: the Yu-Gi-Oh figures, their video game displays, and the gorgeous Sorceress. But of course there was more to be had! The star of the booth was, I think, the amazing Umaru display for the Nendoroid. It’s so elaborate: tiny Nendoroid boxes, toys, posters… so amazing! If they sold this, I would buy it. For basically any price. There was also their Kill la Kill line (with another super cute diorama!), the Ghost in the Shell figma that just went up for order, and many more. Check them all out below!

  • One of the most exciting/bizarre/unexpected announcements from Summer Wonder Festival was definitely the unveiling of a Joker Nendoroid. I mean, I guess it makes sense–they’ve been doing mainly good guys so far, but every Batman needs someone to fight! Or else he’d just mope around in the batcave all day doing nothing. Now the time has come to get the full preview of this little maniac. I mean, he’s so cute! And demented! I haven’t really liked most of the comic Nendoroids but I can totally get on board for this. Scary laughing face? Check. Knife? Check. An actual Joker card? Check. Piles of toy money? Check! No pencil though, sadly. The Joker retails for ¥3,800 and will come out in February barring delays: orders placed on Amazon Japan (through a proxy) get a bonus background! Pre-order At: AmiAmi | Big In Japan | Hobby Search

  • You know, after Nendoroid Batman, I shouldn’t be surprised at any comic Nendoroids that comes out. But still… I manage to be just, bamboozled by this. It’s a Nendoroid Joker. Heath Ledger Joker, obviously. Which, considering how Jared Leto looks in Suicide Squad, is a blessing. Thank u gsc for no Leto Joker But really, this is hilarious. I want a million of them. I hope he comes with a little bomb! And we get a Harley. [via GSC]

  • You certainly can’t say that DC neglects their female characters… when it comes to merchandise. In fact, they have several lines dedicated just to the girls! My favorite of these is definitely the Bombshells Line, a newer creation that takes the characters we know and love and puts a retro spin on them. At Toy Fair they had a bevy of beautiful ladies: newspaper girl Lois Lane, baseball player Batwoman, lounge diva Catwoman, and the star of the show: a Harley & Joker statue featuring a delicious inverse of the traditional “guy bends girl over for kiss” imagery. This makes Joker the first guy to appear in the line! Honestly not too sure how I feel about that, or Harley’s egregious cleavage, but you have to admit that this is a statement piece to end all statement pieces. Just imagine it on a shelf! Perfection, puddin’.

  • There is a right way and a wrong way to to cute, chibi comic characters. We’ve seen quite a lot on the “wrong” side this Toy Fair, like from Kidrobot and Square-Enix, to the point where I’m almost put off by the whole mini-genre. Thankfully DC has restored my faith in the cute with their Lil Batman figures. I mean, JUST LOOK AT CHUBBY BATS. Ahh, he’s so cute I just wanna pinch his grumpy cheeks.

  • So we meet again, DC Variants Play Arts Kai. They’re basically bizarre, carnival funhouse versions of the characters we all know and love. We’ve seen some of them before, and I will never get the image of Yaoi Hands Green Lantern out of my head. Or Wonder Woman’s ridiculous butt. This time around we’ve got the Joker (who honestly doesn’t look that different–it’s the Joker, he always looks weird), Harley Quinn (the robot? what is going on there), Darkseid, Hawkman (who might as well be He-man, what even), the weird Batman we’ve already seen, and then more regular versions of Nightwing and Deathstroke. Then there’s Rorschach from Watchmen, who I am pretty excited to see in figure form! Mostly because then I can re-enact the movie but have everyone pronounce his name correctly. Dear Zack Snyder: there’s a reason they call him Raw Shark in prison. [Edit: Robin, not Nightwing! Thanks, Methos~]

  • Kidrobot has been collaborating with Marvel for a while now, and at Toy Fair they announced that they’re teaming up with DC too! This seems to be a trend: it happened with Sideshow and Kotobukiya, so this doesn’t exactly come as a surprise. The announcements, however, are a mixed bag. Let’s start with the great: the Labbit line looks amazing and I want all of them right now! Their character miniseries, however, has highs and lows. They went with a very cutesy, almost infantile style that works well on some characters (kawaii Superman, ahh!), is kind of horrifying on some (the smiling Joker, nightmare fuel), and is dementedly cute on others (little Deadman, yes please). Others, like Wonder Woman, just look… off. If someone offers these un-blind boxed I will for sure snap up a few (Swamp Thing, come to momma).

  • As they usually do, DC Collectibles had a massive booth at Toy Fair stuffed with goodies. We’ve already taken a look at some of these, like the Poison Ivy Bombshell and the Man of Steel statues, but of course there was a lot more! For starters, they’ll be continuing their New 52 action figure line with a lot of new characters. 2 good guys (Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter), 3 baddies (Captain Cold, Black Adam, Death of the Family Joker), and Catwoman (who falls squarely in the middle). They’ll also be doing an action figure of Solomon Grundy, which is massive and weighs more than you can possibly imagine. Swamp Thing will be getting a totally bitchin new statue in December. There’s a Trinity set of action figures featuring (shockingly) Wonder Woman, Superman and Batman, along with some New 52 two-packs. As for new Covergirls (which is what I really care about!) Batgirl, Batwoman, Supergirl and Platinum will be joining the line. Of course there are several new Batman Black & White stautes, mini articulated figures, an Ozymandius statue, and Nightwing from Arkham City. PHEW! That’s a whole lot of toys.
