A new year means new toys! And Javier Jiménez, creator of Wananeko and Baby Wananeko, is starting 2017 off on a very good note for those of us who like both cats and toys. Which is basically all of humanity, right?
This Sunday, a super-limited run of 5 hand-painted Baby Wananekos will go up in the StickUp Monsters store. Not only are these guys adorable, but by buying one you help support an awesome cause! All proceeds will go to Maullidos Invisibles, a cat welfare organization in Granada. So you get a toy kitty and help out real-life strays and sick cats! All for a mere $35. What could be better?

Wonder Festival has come and gone: we’ve seen all the new PVC figures from it, and have a good sense of what the coming 6 months will look like in terms of pre-orders. But what about the non-PVC stuff? I mean, Wonder Festival is a big event, and it has a dealer’s room! Where you can get garage kits and kaiju and all sorts of great goodies… if you have the money, and of course the skill to paint. We showed you a pre-event roundup, but there’s always lots more to see at the actual thing.
A LOT more. And such a wide variety! There are weird tiny cats in kimonos, so very many KanColle and IM@S/Love Live girls, Chima Group’s goodies, a suspiciously low amount of Miku, lots of cuteness, and a very surprisingly SMT Nocturne kit. Check them all out below!

It’s no secret that our interest in vinyl toys has been slowly drying up over the year. It’s what got us into toy collecting, but the scene feels rather stale now and it’s hard to get excited about new releases when they just feel like repeats of things we’ve seen before. But through all this there are a couple companies that always hold our interest, and Super7 is definitely one of them!
We basically bought out their booth at NYCC, because they had a heck of a lot of Monster Family figures on display. And they were dessert-themed! Key lime pie, blueberry swirl… how can you not dig in? Also on display (and for sale) were He-Man figures, Alien, and more!

Spring is in the air and the cherry blossoms are blooming, but so too are the cats on the magical cherry blossom and cat tree. We managed to get some pictures of the fruits of this mysterious tree at the peak of their beauty when they manage to sparkle and shimmer. Coming in three sizes and styles, these aren’t your usual flowers; there’s the large and intimidating, yet gorgeous, full sized blossom, a teeny tiny cute blossom, and in between the rarer-than-four-leaf-clover lucky cat ones, which are said to bring good fortune to those who pick them. Which is your favorite? Head inside to get a better peek at this modern wonder of nature.

I’m sure you all remember Javier Jimenez’s Wananeko, Plastikitty’s current toy cat crush. As the funding campaign to get this little guy in soft vinyl form has gone on some awesome stretch goals have been added, like a Baby Wananeko soft vinyl figure and clear guts for the large size! Now there’s only one day left to go, and there are still lots of bonus goodies to be had.
The final figure-based stretch goal is a micro Wananeko! At only 2.5″ tall, this little beast will probably still wreak havoc on your figure collection. I mean, it’s a cat. It’s what they do. And as an added bonus, once $12,500 is reached every single backer who got a Wananeko (of any size!) will receive 5 free stickers. Man, that’s like my two weaknesses. CATS AND STICKERS. So go hurry and get one before time runs out!

You probably remember Javier Jimenez’ recent IndieGoGo project to get his awesome Wananeko figure in soft vinyl format. Well, the part I was most excited about was the addition of a Baby Wananeko in resin! I mean, kittens guys. I just love kittens so much. The project got funded amazingly fast, so a stretch goal was added: for $2,000 over the original goal, a sofubi Baby Wananeko would be manufactured too!
Well, as you might have guessed from the title, it’s happened already. Yup, there are 21 days left to go and we’ve already had the original and stretch goal funded. I wonder if Jimenez has any other tricks up his sleeve?! If you want a Baby Wananeko, all of the original funding levels that include a sofubi Wananeko will include a bonus matching Baby Wananeko. Want something a little more special? There are ten $200 slots open that get you a custom set: one full size and one baby Wananeko, customized to your specific instructions! So go get one here.

It’s no secret that here at Plastikitty, we love cats. Real cats, stuffed cats, toy cats. If it’s a cat, I’m gonna buy it. One of our recent favorite cat figures has been Javier Jimenez’ Wananeko, a yokai who can shapeshift parts of his body into weaponry and also is so freaking cute. However, past Wananeko releases have been resin and fairly limited, so like most resin toys it’s hard to dive into right away for newbies.
But worry no more, Wananeko fans! There is now an IndieGoGo for… you guessed it, a soft vinyl version of this badass kitty. And if there’s one thing I like more than cat toys it’s sofubi cat toys, so this is great news! The rewards range from stickers to crazy customs, and there will be 3 colorways to start off: DIY, original, and a clear pink that’s exclusive to IndieGoGo.
But that’s not all. You may notice that our header is not of Wananeko. Or is it?! It’s BABY WANANEKO. This resin piece is probably the cutest thing I’ve ever seen, and there are four different colorways you can get only through the IndieGoGo: Original, Calico, Nightshade and Ghost. I love that the eye shape changes so he goes from worried to angry. AHH, it’s so cute. Do you want one? You know you do. Head on over to IndieGoGo and show your support.

While my interest in mainstream vinyl wanes every year, my love for kaiju only grows stronger. There’s just something about Japan’s aesthetic for bizarrely cute monsters & animals that I can’t help but adore. Chima Group remains my all-time favorite so today’s shoot features Parabola, one of their newer sculpts, as the centerpiece. I mean, it’s a cartoon dog with a cone of shame. True love.
Of course that’s not all I took out adventuring! There’s a brief appearance by one of Chris Rynaik’s Snyboras, along with Parabola’s pall Wool and a, um, strange little blue guy. Don’t ask me, I don’t even remember how this little weirdo made it into our collection! Check them all out after the jump~

Every time a new Animal Crossing game comes out, it seems like the entire internet is enthralled by it. Or at least, the entire internet of people I know. So of course I am a bit saddened that the franchise doesn’t have a ton of merchandise: sure, there’s the Shizue/Isabelle Nendoroid and many plushes, but I want more!
Thankfully, more toys are on the horizon. Jesnet is making soft vinyl figures of Shizue, K.K Slider, Tom Nook, and Reese. You can get them individually (~¥1,300) or in two-packs (¥2,400) on AmiAmi right now with an August release. Of course I’ve ordered all four and am hoping we get some more!

Okay, “new” might be a bit misleading. I’ve known about Koronekohone, an adorable kaiju figure from the Japanese company Dream Rocket, for a while now. But their availability in the US is severely limited, and they tend to sell out the second I find out about them. It’s become something of a quest for me to hunt them down, and now that there is not just one, but six (!!) different versions in stock somewhere, I feel compelled to share my good fortune. Because just look at those sly little buggers: you know you want one!
Lulubell Toy Bodega has six exclusive colorways available at the moment. There are three different colors (hot pink, hot blue, hot green) and two different finishes (furry and smooth), bringing us… well, six combinations, as I’ve mentioned. They’re only $25 each so it actually wouldn’t be that pricey to get all 6, but we opted for the furry set. I can’t wait till they come in! You can pick up your own Koronekohone here: and this is defintitely not a decision you want to sleep on, because this figure goes fast!
