Kathie Olivas Archive

  • While my interest in vinyl is continually waning, there are a few things that will always pull me back in: creepy/cute, and anything by the amazing duo of Brandt Peters and Kathie Olivas. Stephen and I have been collecting their figures for a long time now, and we were beyond excited at the release of their Wandering Misfits miniseries which features a whole lot of Skelves… and you know how we feel about those. Only these ones are small, made out of vinyl, and a whole lot more affordable! We snagged an entire case along with a few store exclusives and thought that there would be nowhere better to bring this devious group than to an old cemetery in my hometown. All shots are, of course, by Stephen Donaldson, though I helped out a bit with set direction (aka sticking toys on gravestones–cute, and morbid!). Check them all out in the gallery, and let us know if you snatched up any of these Misfits–they do seem to be wandering off shelves at a rather alarming rate.

  • We’re big fans of Brandt Peter and Kathie Olivas’ Skelve figure, the adorably creepy pajama-clad monster that’s wiggled into our hearts (and nightmares). He’s gotten quite a few variations, everything from plague doctors to full feline garb. Now, with the help of Nonesuch Garden, we’re getting a plushy Skelve! That’s right, a stuffed version you can hug and squeeze and terrify children with. No word on release date, but from the look of these production shots the fuzzy army is coming along quite nicely and should be ready for release into the wild shortly. Let’s just hope there are enough to meet demand! [via CP’s Blog]

  • There are many variations of Circus Posterus’ ubiquitous Skelve, but so far only two of them have been made in mini form: the original, and the kitty Masao Skelve. It’s about time that we got a bit more variation, and it seems like next up will be a Mini Greeter! This sculpt is quite different from the original Skelve, keeping the mask but adding a long nose and a flowing cape. Apparently this first release is going to be glow in the dark, like I wasn’t excited enough already! Like most of their releases I’m sure this little guy will be hard to snag, but well worth it if you do! Now all we need is a Mini Plague Skelve… [Update] It appears that this will actually be vinyl, not resin, and will be a piece with Cardboard Spaceship, Circus Posterus, and Shinbone Creative. Check out a picture of this little guy glowing in the gallery too! [via Brandt Peter’s Instagram and Brandt Peters’ Facebook]

  • Circus Posterus had that mystery Skelve at DesignerCon that didn’t get a decent reveal before the event, but now we’re finally getting a look at it! A little late, perhaps, but thankfully there will be other releases of this cutie. In fact, both the 4-Legged Masao Skelve (run of 66, $250) and the Mini Masao (run of 100, $66) in the ‘Midnight’ colorway will be coming to the Circus Annual show on December 7th. There’s also a super-rare GID mask chase for the Mini, and if you want a shot at one of those the release will be lottery-only in the Circus Posterus forums. This might be my favorite Skelve colorway yet–I just love the sparkles! [via Circus Posterus’ Blog]

  • DesignerCon is right around the corner, and as we’ve seen Circus Posterus has a ton of figures lined up for the event like the Toxic Marshmallow Stingy Jack. It seems like he won’t be alone though, as Kathie Olivas’ Calliope Jackalope is joining the DesignerCon lineup. This robin’s egg blue colorway is limited to 120 pieces and like Stingy Jack, only half of them will be at the convention. The other half will be split between Tomenosuke and Circus Posterus, meaning an online release for those of us not attending Dcon! She’ll retail for $95 and definitely isn’t the last announcement of Circus Posterus’: there are still those mini Skelves wandering around! [via Circus Posterus]

  • It’s been a while since we saw some event releases from Circus Posterus, but it seems like they’ve been saving up a ton for the upcoming Designer Con! First and foremost we have the second colorway of their sofubi Stingy Jack designed by Brandt Peters, called the Toxic Marshmallow Edition. I really love this colorway, and the run of 120 pieces will be split for those of us who can’t make it out: half will be at the show (booth #500) and the other half will be divided between Tomenosuke and Stranger Factory. He’ll retail for $95, and I expect him to fly off the (virtual) shelves! Then we have some teasers for the rest of their lineup. They’ll clearly have some Skelves on hand, hopefully some minis as well since it’s been a while since I added one to my collection! Last but not least is the amazingly cute zombie deer Zombambie. This clear orange colorway is the Sour Peach edition and will be a run of 66 with a price fo $100. It’s implied that, like Stingy Jack, some will be headed online as well. I love that Circus Posterus splits their releases like this, it makes it so much easier for those of us who can’t travel to every convention! [via Circus Posterus]

  • The other day a surprised showed up for me when I got home from a lengthy day of classes; a mysterious regular sized Priority Mail flat rate box shipped from Brian Flynn that weighed, well, way more than what I had expected. I opened it up and lo and behold, it contained my last few recent orders as well as some long awaited figures that I had ordered, some as far back as last Spring! Well then, what all did I get from Super7? Hit the jump to find out and take a closer look at it all!

  • Super7 always has a ton of new releases every month, and their first two September ones have just been shown off! This time we’ve got a gorgeous Red Plasma version maroon, black and gold Big Sal, who apparently escaped from prison! Big Sal is going up for order at Super7’s store on Saturday 3rd at noon Pacific time. She’ll also be at Dragon*Con at Brandt and Kathie’s booth, so if you’re going to the show be sure to pick one up! Next we have a clear red Foster. I’m actually surprised that they are doing another release of him so soon–we had the original vanilla & chocolate at SDCC, the mint version in August, and now a third release in as many months. Foster seems to be incredibly popular, but I hope Milton and Fenton will still get some love! This cannibalistic snack will be up on Friday the 2nd at noon Pacific, so get your cookie jars ready! • Stephen and I have been fans of Circus Posterus for a long time, and while Bubblegut was the first to be featured on the site he certainly wasn’t our first piece from them! That honor goes to the OG Mini Skelve from SDCC, which quickly snowballed into a collection of 5. There’s the OG, the Plasma Dragon Con Mini, the NYCC Frost Mini, the White Shadow Skelve, and our gorgeous purple test pull. We’ve recently acquired 2 Mini Masaos, but they get their own post! All of them got to go out and about for an adventure in the same garden that Bubblegut lives in, and it seems like they have some rather…. nefarious plans. One Skelve alone is creepy enough, but having 5 watching you with their empty eyes? Well, hit the jump to see for yourself–it’s a little unsettling!

  • Last year at SDCC, Dragatomi’s booth was a bit out of the way. Several rows over from the vinyl section is a lot farther than you’d think with crowds that slow to a crawl! This year, however, they landed in a space smack-dab in the middle of the vinyl toy section, and their booth was pretty hard to get into with all the people drifting in and out! They had several exclusive releases, but the main highlight of their booth was all of the customs. There were works from Jeremiah Ketner, DrilOne, Brandt Peters, Kathie Oilvas, J*Ryu, Grimsheep, Squink, Rsinart, Chuckboy, Southerndrawl, Leecifer, Betso, Travis Lampe, and several more! There was something for everyone, and I even managed to snag one myself. See that clear mini Masao Skelve in the gallery? Well, that baby is currently sitting on my shelf! So hit the jump and check out the ridiculous selection of goods Dragatomi had to offer and if anything catches your eye, see if it’s still available on Dragatomi’s website for purchase!
