Ken Kaneki Archive

  • You would think that with the rise of male figures, we’d be getting more and more dynamic and interesting takes on them. But sadly, that’s not the case: for the most part, guy figures are still just kind of standing around. I mean, it’s high-quality standing-around, but nothing much is happening there. Except, of course, for Kotobukiya, who has been making dynamic male figures for quite some time. So of course we were all excited for their take on Tokyo Ghoul‘s Ken Kaneki! While the show was pretty popular it didn’t receive a ton of figure attention. Thankfully, the few options we do have are pretty awesome, especially the ArtFX J Awakened Version which we’ll be taking a look at today.

  • Kotobukiya seems to bring a huge booth out wherever they go, so of course Anime Japan was no exception! Of course the star of the show has to be their new IDOLM@STER girl Kanaki Mimura, just on the virtue of this being her first time out on display. And Anzu was there with her too, of course! The newly painted Ken made an appearance, along with another boy: Grell! Then there’s Kantai Collection, of course. Inazuma and Ikazuchi were there both in scaled and Cu-Poche form. Check them out in the gallery! [via Dengeki]

  • It seems like 2015 is going to be a pretty fantastic year for male figures. All of a sudden, everyone’s making them! But this isn’t new territory for Kotobukiya, whose ArtFX J line has been pumping out male figures from classic anime and manga for years. But they are branching out a bit to include newer characters, including the amazing sculpt for Ken Kaneki! I thought we’d have to wait until another event to see him painted, but apparently the work is all done and he should be going up for pre-order very soon. I love the ghoulish look of this figure, so deliciously creepy. But what about you Tokyo Ghoul fans? Does this hit all the right notes for you? [via the Tokyo Ghoul Twitter]

  • Though Winter Wonder Festival and Toy Fair are about a week apart and have a lot of company overlap, it’s rare to see fresh prototypes at the event. Probably because, you know, they don’t want to send the decoration master overseas when it’s the only displayable version they own. But sometimes we get exceptions, and there was a pretty surprising one at Koyobukiya’s booth: Ken Kaneki! Personally, I thought we were going to get a lot more merchandise from Tokyo Ghoul, but Ken here is awesome enough for me to look past that (for the moment at least). Though at first glance he sure looks like Naruto in his tailed beast mode, doesn’t he?

  • So far we’ve already shown you quite a bit of what Kotobukiya has at their Toy Fair booth: Hulk vs Hulkbuster, new Bishoujos, the Star Wars line, and their new Super Power figures. But of course a booth as big as theirs has a lot more in it! Like a new Iron Man ArtFX and tons of Halo merchandise. They even brought a bunch of PVC figures, which is not something we’re used to nowadays. I mean, they even had a Wonder Festival prototype out and about: Ken Kaneki! Along with lots of the Cu-Poche line, chopsticks for every shade of samurai, and tons more. Check them all out after the jump!

  • Kotobukiya already showed us a whole lot in teasers, and surprise… it’s all here! The Bishoujos got their own post but here we’ve got everything promised. Ken Kaneki, Miho, Asseylum Vers Allusia, Anzu Futaba! Also, Yukari Akiyama, and the new KanColle girl Inazuma who comes with a surprise friend Ikazuchi. Of course, there’s new stuff as well! Like yet another Saber, yay. Can you feel my enthusiasm? On the happier side they’ll be doing another Bahamut figure: Little Princess Vania! We also have a surprise Durarara announcement which is definitely a mystery at this point, along with announcements for figures of Shinobu Oshino and Ouji Oshino. Then there’s the Shining girls: Excela Noa Aura is fully sculpted and they’ll be making the witch Rinna Mayfield. [via AmiAmi’s Facebook]

  • Kotobukiya is one of the companies that really seems to go all-out with the Wonder Festival teasers, and this year is no exception! We have a TON of them for you. First up is the only full sculpt reveal we’re going to see: Ken Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul. That’s right, we’re getting the full reveal! We also have a painted teaser of Asseylum Vers Allusia from Aldnoah.Zero, aka yet another Saber clone. I bet we’ll be seeing a lot of her at the event! Then we’ve got the more teasers that hint rather than show. We’ll be getting updates on Bishoujos Wasp, Raven, and Sakura Kasugano! They’ll also have the Cu-Poches of Ikazuchi and Chihaya, and that’s not the only IM@S news: they have a full sculpt of Anzu Futaba! Also, Yukari Akiyama will be there as well, along with a new KanColle figure: Inazuma. [UPDATE] Lady Deadpool lives! Thanks to nekonicole for the heads up [via Kotobukiya]

  • Empty’s Chara-Forme line is basically a series of extra-detailed Nendoroids with basically nonexistent poseability and pretty high pricetags for their size. They are pretty damn cute, but I’m just not willing to shell out that much for a chibi figure. However, I seem to be in the minority because the line, while new, is already quite popular! And today they’re showing off a ton of teasers for the Chara-Forme figures they will have at Wonder Festival. First up is the only actual sculpt in the bunch: we’re seeing the back of Ieyasu Tokugawa from Sengoku Basara! Then we have two (kind of 3?) figures from Hoozuki no Reitetsu: Hakutaku and a dual figure of Ichiko & Niko. There’s also outlines of Ken Kaneki from Toyko Ghoul and Ononoki Yotsugi from Nisemonogatari. I have to admit, I am curious what her Chara-Forme will look like! [via empty’s blog]

  • Are you wondering why we have a sudden huge influx of boy figure related news, when usually it’s like one out of every 100 announcements? Well, it’s Animate Girls Festival! Which is not about girls. Well, it is–just not girl characters. Girl fans. And what do we want? SEXY BOYS. While not exactly the sexiest of boys, Kotobukiya will be doing a figure of Ken Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul in his Awakened state! I hope there’s blood. Lots of blood. [via 2chan]
