Then boy oh boy do we have a figure for you! Kidrobot Black, the classy end of the designer toy company, has a new figure lined up with Alex Pardee. We don’t see a whole lot of him in the vinyl toy world but his Dunny design remains one of my favorite.

Continuing with his favorite theme of creepy bears, this piece involves, well, a stuffed bear being ripped to shreds from the inside out by a crazy monster. There are also little people in its belly, which reminds me of the Junko KR Black piece. There are only 250 pieces and at $200 it’s a bit cheaper than some other Black pieces. There hasn’t been one I’ve been interested in since Lilitu, but they’ve finally caught my eye again with this collaboration with Junko Mizuno! Her ‘Kuro Megami’ figure is absolutely gorgeous, with way more detail than you usually see on a vinyl piece and some very intricate sculpting.

Sadly, this beauty comes at a price. $400, to be exact! She is 11 inches tall, which makes up for it (somewhat). This is a limited run of only 200 pieces so don’t expect her to stick along long, even with the hefty pricetag! Expect orders to show up on Kidrobot Black very soon.

[via SpankyStokes]

We only had a rough outline of the figure then, but now it seems like actual images have leaked! The details are a bit obscured because of the lighting, but from what we can see it looks phenomenal. It’s a wonderful representation of the art, though I think I am spoiled by PVC because her hair sculpt doesn’t look quite as good as I’d like. It’s quite above the level one expects from vinyl, though, so I am not going to complain! Her box is also very swanky, a lot like what I’d expect to see from Native, which is amusing because of the highly NSFW nature of this piece.

The price, however, is still making me cringe. Lilitu is an edition of only 200, so I expected a moderately high price, but I was guessing maybe $150. Nope, $250! For a simple, barely-painted black vinyl piece. I associate high prices with either a high cost of production (like PVC where each individual piece is handpainted) or expensive materials (like polystone and coldcast statues). Vinyl, however has neither of these. The material is not overly expensive, and the process is simple compared to many other types of figures. So what gives with the high pricetag?

[via Notcot]

(NSFW) Kidrobot Black’s Lilitu Emerges From The Deep

We found out last week that the Tara McPherson design for Kidrobot Black, Lilitu, would be set for release soon. We only had a rough outline of the figure then, but now it seems like actual images have leaked! The details are a bit obscured because of the lighting, but from what we can see it looks phenomenal. The premise of having higher-end vinyl pieces in sleek, seductive black was a huge draw for collectors, but the line hasn’t really lived up to expectations so far. Releases are few and far between, and they tend to be minimalistic but have massive pricetags that don’t fit. The first release was $100, which seems okay, but prices have been jacked up to $250-500 since then.

What many people have been waiting for is the Tara McPherson Kidrobot Black piece that was teased over a year ago–Lilitu. Lilitu is a man-eating demon, and the piece shows her rising from what appears to be a swamp. It’s a stunning concept, and I’ve been waiting a long time for an official release.

Well, it seems like it’s finally happening, as Kidrobot Black has just updated with a silhouette of Lilitu. Sadly, that’s pretty much where the good news ends. It’s an 8″ vinyl piece, which is a decent size, but the price is a truly outrageous $250. That’s just insane, and even though Lilitu is a limited edition of 200 piece I feel like she’ll be sitting around for a while. I am just heartbroken that a piece I have been waiting so long for is such a huge ripoff, because there is no way that 8″ of vinyl is worth that much. I don’t really understand what you are paying for here–it’s no more vinyl than an 8″ Dunny, the design is minimalistic so it does not require a complicated mold, and Tara’s other pieces have gone for a lot less.

If you have the cash to burn, Lilitu should be dropping very soon. Also of note, she’s 18+, which means… nips!
