@GeekeryDo: @mikeyturvey I agree with you. I stopped reading them because I got tired of it, though @Sir_Narwhal is correct that it's normal for comics.

@GeekeryDo: @Sir_Narwhal @mikeyturvey yeh but that's just one arc and it's easy to read it all since, as you said, it's been put together like that.

@NFern0: @Sir_Narwhal Sounds like (ohoho) specialist equipment. Black Friday is more mass consumer oriented isn't it?

Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon Archive

This is a figure that’s had a very long road to production… well, she’s not even in production yet, so it could be longer still! Kotobukiya announced their figure of Tomo Asama in June of 2012, and there was no word on her until a full year later when she almost magically popped up fully sculpted! And now, like a… big breasted Venus rising from the ocean, she’s risen from obscurity and arrived fully painted!
While she’s certainly more tasteful than Max Factory’s Tomo, I’m kind of over the Horizon girls at this point. But I think fans of the series will appreciate the bold, dynamic pose and that she’s not as T&A focused as other figures from the show. But the whole arrow-resting-on-the-boobs thing is just… not for me.

Some days I wake up, eat some cereal, check the figure news and write up posts for the site. Other days I wake up and think “hey it’d be fun to shoot Max Factory’s Tomo like she was underwater… or in space… or both! But I have none of the equipment to do these things! Let’s use tissue paper and glitter!” I dunno, her face just gives me that “I’ve fallen (in space) and I can’t get up! Someone save me” vibe. So with some creative lighting and an overambitious concept, away I went. Into… the abyss! Of her boobs. Wow, they’re so much more massive in person than I had imagined. Geeze, honey, your back must be KILLING you.
Tomo is far from a spotlight-stealing figure. Her quality is okay, the sculpt is decent with some issues (the hair is kind of awful given her price point). There are high points (the latex finish is perfect, her butt is even more perfect) and low points (the stupid bow won’t stay in her hands AT ALL), but I find myself terribly fond of her. Probably because I now imagine her drifting in space, boobs akimbo. Also her face is so cute! As you can tell, my standards for liking a figure are very high, with a rigorous qualification system. It involves spreadsheets and points distribution. You can check her out in the gallery, and if she steals your heart with her bodacious charms she’s quite easy to find on the aftermarket: originally she went on sale (sigh), but at the moment she’s (finally!) sold out at most stores, so you will have to get a pre-owned one!

Kotobukiya stuffed us full of so many teasers very few of the figures in this post are going to come as a surprise. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t awesome! Especially Dark Angel Olivia, uhnf. We’ve also got Colette Brunel, Shiki Ryougi, Sumika Kagami, the bunny version of Kasumi Yashiro and Tomo Asama. We’ve shown you the rest already: their ArtFX J line, the Tony Taka reveals, and the Bakemonogatari girls.
Of course we have some announcements! It seems they have (at least for the moment) stopped their Angelic Island line and are moving on to the hot new idol property, Love Live! School Idol Project. They’ll be doing swimsuit figures of Umi Sonada, Kotori Minami and Honoka Kousaka who are all pretty cute. Now… for the big announcement: ArtFX J Attack on Titan! Yes, that means BOYS BOYS BOYS YEAAH. Eren Jaegar and Levi, to be more specific. That should help balance out all the Mikasa merch!

Wow, so pixellated. Such mystery. Woww.
But seriously, I hate teasers that make it nigh impossible to tell what is going on. Well, I hate teasers in general and Wonder Festival makes me grumpy, but come on who the heck is that seated figure. Shinobu? Did they steal Alter’s Charlotte sculpt? Maybe it’s Karl Marx? The rest are pretty easy: we’ve got a figma of Miho Nishizumi from Girls und Panzer, their figma of Futayo Honda is painted, and there is a scaled figure of Cerberus from Shingeki no Bahamut (who we’ve included art of in the gallery since her shot is so blurry!). Most of this is pretty meh, though I am excited for Cerberus!

Ah, more teasers. Kotobukiya doesn’t show off as much as some companies, but we’re still getting a pretty generous peek! We’ll start with the boys (since there are a lot of them!). We’ve got three from Prince of Tennis: Kunimitsu Tezuka, who was announced a while back, is now sculpted and we are getting a full shot of him along with two announcements. He’ll be joined by Kuranosuke Shiraishi and Seiichi Yukimura. It also looks like we’ll be getting a double dose of Marik Ishtar: his figure is painted, but there is also an unpainted sculpt… of him totally topless! Fanservice for the ladies~
Of course there are some female figures as well! The Tomo Asama they announced ages ago seems to be sculpted, and the Kasumi Yashiro they announced a few days ago is already painted. Fast turnaround! We’ve also got two brand new girls: a second Hitagi Senjougahara and Sumika Kagami from Muv-Luv.

Whoo, scans. Pardon my lack of enthusiasm, but the week leading up to Wonder Festival always has me dreading scans. It means extra features (garage kit roundup and wishlist) on top of, well, the event coverage and we have three reviews to work on this week! So when I remembered scans were tonight I nearly cried. For real, ask Stephen.
So, let’s just dive right in. Wow, such figures! So PVC! Wowwwww! Maybe I’ll just do every post in Shibe…

At the recent MegaHobby Expo Spring 2013, Kotobukiya finally showed off their painted Honda Futayo: while I’m far from Kyoukai Senjou No Horizon‘s biggest fan, I really do love the character design (aside from the obvious qualms I have with the fanservice) and I think Kotobukiya has done a lovely job on miss Futayo! Her face in particular is what really stood out to me, with a hundred yard stare that’s really different from the work we’ve seen on the other Horizon girls.
Now we are getting the full preview, and I am loving her even more! Her pose is basic but still has a lot of movement, and I’m a sucker for all that blue. Plus she’s so shiny! They also showed off a glimpse of the sculpt of the Tomo Asama they announced a very long time ago: in fact, I was beginning to think they forgot about her! I like that they are going with an action pose, it will be a nice contrast to Max Factory’s version.

Kotobukiya’s Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon line has been moving along at a slow crawl. The initial reveal that they’d be doing figures from the show was back in June of 2012, and we didn’t see a sculpt until this past Wonder Festival. Now, almost a year after the initial announcement, we’re finally getting a peek at miss Honda Futayo painted!
This is probably one of the more tasteful figures from the series, with the focus more on her fierce stance and boldly colored outfit than on the T&A the show is known for. Of course she is rather busty but I like how they’ve handled it, and I am definitely considering picking her up!

Alter is my favorite company, but at this point it’s almost by default. They have produced some absolutely amazing figures, but most of their best work is from 2 or even 3 years ago–my favorite of their recent releases are actually re-releases or exclusives. But one release I have been psyched for is their ambitious Kazuno, even though I tend to dislike most of the figures from Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon due to the T&A factor.
But Kazuno is anything but tacky–she’s sleek and majestic, and with her two weapons attached she’s downright frightening! If you don’t have the shelf space for these babies (and, let’s face it, most of us don’t–she seems bigger than Shin Sonic Fate!) she comes with alternate hands. Orders open on the 8th, and while I know she is going to be wildly expensive I am more than willing to shell out for this gorgeous figure.

Welcome to the week of girls whose name starts with Y! We’ve got Yuki, Yui, Yumi and Yami. Yup, totally not confusing at all! While there are only ten figures this week we’ve got some really great (and very expensive) ones, ranging from painfully cute to totally badass to downright confusing. So check them all out after the jump!
