  • Alter has always been my favorite figure manufacturer, and while there have been times my heart was swayed by others (Max Factory! AlphaMax! Orchid Seed!), I come back to them time and time again because of their consistent quality and unique sculpts. And once again they brought it in force to MegaHobby with a variety of gorgeous sculpts, painted figures, and new announcements. Of course there were a few from their IDOLM@STER line: their Rin Shibuya (who looks basically identical to the GSC one, let’s be honest) is painted, and they brought out the sculpt for their perfect winged Ranko who I love with all my heart. And the boys were out in force! Rei and Ritsu Sakuma from Ensemble Stars!, Cecil Aijima from Uta no☆Prince-sama♪, Haruka Nanase and Tachibana Mako from Free!, and an announcement for 3 new Free! boys: Sousuke Yamazaki, Nagisa Hazuki, and Rei Ryuugazaki. Plus the brand-new Dio Eraclea from Last Exile. They also had a beautiful 1/6 scale figure of Takao, the cheesy but appealing Santa Saber Alter, Ikumi Mito finally sculpted, Lala Deviluke in a maid outfit, Plachta from the Atelier games, and two new announcements: Hikari Karibuchi from Brave Witches and Okoi from Oboro Muramasa! • Welcome to a super special double feature PVC Pre-Order Roundup! You may have noticed the absence of this feature last week, but that’s because we wanted to do a super-packed mega special awesome roundup. Not because we were really busy or anything, certainly not. This week(s) we’ve got a whole lot going on. There are, of course, a lot of ladies (and one boy). There are some really spectacular figures, including some that I have really been looking forward to and a surprise garage kit to PVC conversion. Oh, and of course there’s the bad too, and a ton of beach figures even though it’s, you know, very cold out. Check them all out after the jump!

  • Kaitendoh’s Alvis E. Hamilton was cute and all, but something about her just felt a little off to me. Mainly her hair, which ended up being a weird yellow-blonde color that definitely did not reflect her anime design. Well it seems like they are setting out to fix this with a version 1.5 which has the correct colors! Honestly, this must be such a huge bummer for people who ordered version 1. It would have been better, I think, to just send out a replacement head or something. Then again, I am more tempted to order her now though I really wish they had just gotten the first release right. She’ll retail for ¥8,500 with a March release. [via Kaitendoh’s Blog]

  • Welcome to two months of loot in one! Actually it’s kind of three: as you may or may not have noticed, we didn’t have a August loot post either. It’s a long story, but basically AmiAmi has been smushing our orders together oddly so we get things late (but some early–most of our October was here before the September items). So some August items squeaked their way in! Hit the jump to get started on our most action-packed loot post yet.

  • Kaitendoh and Lechery seem to come as a pair, so it’s no surprise that they showed up together at the Miyazawa Model Exhibition. We’ll start with the good: Kaitendoh had a lot of really cute figures on display like their bubbly Kirino, the amazing Mikan Tachibana, and the lovely Enma. Of course with the good there’s the bad. Lechery brought, well, some terrible figures. Their Snow White actually looks WORSE painted somehow, and then there’s the horrifying ‘Rose of My Boss’ figure we looked at yesterday. I guess the race girl is cute but really, Lechery is becoming the new Taki Corp. [via AmiAmi’s Facebook]

  • This week’s orders were dominated by two things: poseable figures and Last Exile. We had two figures of Alvis, and considering how long it’s been since we’ve seen anything from the series this is kind of amazing. Then we got quite a few Nendoroids and figmas as well! As far as other scaled figures go the choices are pretty slim, though there is Moe Hitler and some very pretty Ikkitousen figures. So hit the jump to check them out!

  • Apparently it’s Last Exile day here on Plastikitty! First we got a look at Alter’s amazing take on Alvis and Lavie, and now we are seeing a peek at Kaitendoh’s Alvis whose design is actually from Last Exile: Gin`yoku no Fam. Now if you remember back to when we first saw her colored I was incredibly excited as she looked amazing for a Kaitendoh figure! I didn’t expect her to be perfect on release, but now it seems like sadly even the prototype has issues. Her face seems a little blanker than what we originally saw, but the real issue is her hair–Alvis has soft, ash-blonde hair but for some reason they decided to change the color they had for her originally to a rather vibrant and yellowish blonde. This is a huge disappointment for me, as this slight change makes her look totally different. I still love the outfit and the sculpt, but this went from a must-get to me for a “wait and see if she goes on sale.” The pricing doesn’t help much either–¥8,500 for a 1/8 scale figure, plus she has a June release date and it seems like that month is going to be brutal. I’ll definitely rethink it once she goes up for order, but right now I’m just dreaming about what could have been. [via Kaitendoh’s Blog]

  • Last Exile has some of my favorite character designs, not to mention they’re done by the amazing Range Murata! There are really very few figures from the series despite its popularity, but it seems like recently we have been getting a flood of them! Alter unveiled their joint figure of Alivs and Lavie at MegaHobby Expo, and anticipation for it was pretty high. Now we’re getting a good look at them colored, and as expected Alter did a fantastic job! Everything from Alvis’ stuffed goat to their adorable faces to the ridiculously detailed bench is just perfect! Plus it seems like the girls don’t connect directly to the bench which means that you can switch how they are displayed or even use the bench for other things! They will be going up on the 21st and should have a late summer release, but I am kind of dreading to see the pricing on these two. [via Alter’s Blog]

I though something similar when she was first unveiled, but the prototype looks even better. Whether or not they can carry this off in the final product, though, has yet to be seen. [via earlbox]

  • Kaitendoh i s a bit of an odd company. A few years back they were considered quite good quality, especially with their candy resin Tamakis. But they failed to keep up with the progress being made by other companies, and slowly fell to the bottom of the pack. They have been improving recently, especially their sculpts, but I am not going to lie–I actually didn’t believe that this figure was Kaitendoh when I first saw it! Last Exile seems to be rather popular now because of the sequel, Last Exile: Ginyoku no Fam, and Alter has already shown off a figure from it. Kaitendoh is producing a 1/8 scale Alvis E. Hamilton, and the sculpting on her looks amazing! My only disappointment is that she doesn’t have her goat, but other than that this is a pretty amazing figure of Alvis! [via Kaitendoh’s Blog]
