  • Do you think there were enough events this week? First we had Miyazawa Model Expo, then the 42nd Prize Fair, and finally Animate Girls Festival. But apparently we need a nice, even number, so we have #4: Hobby Japan Character Festival! A celebration of all those exclusive figures you wish you could buy but probably can’t afford. There were no new announcements but we did have some updates, like the painted Hunter from Bikini Warriors and MegaHouse’s grown-up Aldra figure. Bikini Warriors‘ Mage also showed up (so adorable!) along with Kotobukiya’s amazing Fuyuka Yukishiro from Sword & Wizards. They also brought a ton of art, including an excessive amount of Satan from Seven Sins–maybe we’ll be getting another figure of her? [via moeyo]

  • Amakuni, aka maker of things we want but can’t have because they’re all exclusives, had little to show at Wonder Festival. In fact one of their figures, the bride Muramasa, was behind frosted glass. So we could see.. the vague outline? What is the point of that? I thought she was being made by Wing (which would mean non-exclusive) but they switched it on us! Also on display was Haruna from KanColle, and their idol Lucifer (who I am totally in love with), along with some rather creepy figures of Prisma Illya and Kuro. Why are they naked?! Whyyy. • The 7 Deadly Sins line was pretty serious in its initial incarnation, but the side figures have been getting progressively more absurd. Usually in a “how do boobs even work like that” sense, but some of them have totally weird concepts. Like lounging in a giant bowl of ice cream. So I was only slightly surprised that a second version of Lucifer was announced, and it was… an idol one! Much better than the ridiculous swimsuit. She’s already sculpted, and of course I love her. I mean, it’s so freaking absurd and reminds me a lot of idol Retia Adolf (aka moe Hitler). Only in Japan would Hitler and Lucifer be idols. They even have similar color palettes! I think the sculpt of this looks great, and I don’t even mind paying proxy fees for this perfection. How often do you get to order the lord of hell in a moe idol oufit? Actually don’t answer that, it’s probably unsettlingly common. [via studiokyawn’s Twitter]

  • It has been a very long time since we had a nearly full batch of magazine scans, but it seems like the tides are turning! I mean, they’re still just photos of pages and not actual scans, but it’s clear that the golden age of 2chan uploading everything for us is over. And I’ll take what I can get! This week we have… a whole lot of MegaHouse. Seriously, 70% of these pages are about MegaHouse. Updates on their Sailor Moon, Digimon, Naruto, One Piece, and Gundam lines. Barely any of it is even new! But they did show off one shiny new sculpt: Arcana Kiraseiten from Shinrabanshou Chocolate, who looks adorable and amazing. Of course the news we all want is Hobby Japan-specific news: updates on their figure lines! And we do indeed have a few. There are two new Bikini Warriors girls, a Valkyrie from Tony Taka and a Hunter from Hiroe Rei. I have to say, despite the stupid name and concept I am kind of loving the art for these girls. And Dark Elf’s sculpt looks amazing! We have yet another new Seven Deadly Sins figure: an alternate Lucifer. Well, ANOTHER alternate Lucifer, this time in full idol gear. It’s so cute but… man, they are milking this hard. And last but not least, Alter is FINALLY making a figure of Charles from Hyakka Ryouran. I’ve been waiting literally 5 years for this, I’m so excited. Check out all that and more in the gallery! [via Takezo1101’s Twitter]

  • The Seven Deadly Sins line has been quite slow going, but we got a HUGE batch of updates at MegaHobby Expo! Most importantly (to me) we have the updated, completed sculpt of Astaroth: I was on the fence before, but she really does look lovely now! There are two brand-new sculpts on display: the alternate Mammon, and a third version of Asmodeus. This one features her in a giant ice cream cup, and I was hoping they’d do a version of this so I am pumped. Sadly, all of these are Amakuni, which means exclusives. Then we have a recolor of Bikini Lucifer: personally, I think the black looks significantly better. Last but not least is a closer look at Orchid Seed’s Leviathan, whose more lewd pose can be seen in scans. [via kk1up]

  • The Seven Deadly Sins line has been going well… except, you know, for the atrocious recolors. There was the god-awful Leviathan one, the controversial Lucifer recolor (which I will admit I like because I am a big fan of pastels), and the downright confusing Asmodeus. Well, the curse has been broken! Rejoice, for we are getting a freaking awesome recolor! That’s an exclusive! Wait, what? Damn you Hobby Japan. This time it’s (another) Lucifer recolor, in deep dark colors representing the dark side of the Prince of Lies. And she has PINK HAIR. This colorway is pretty much everything I love, and even though it’s an exclusive with an ¥11,000 pricetag, I am still getting one. I mean, her release is in December so it’s like a Christmas present! That’s… logical, right? Right?! Pre-orders are open at Big In Japan right now and other proxies should follow tonight! • In a shocking turn of events, the fully sculpted Seven Deadly Sins line has been unveiled at CharaHobby! Did anyone even know Orchid Seed & Amakuni were turning up here? I sure didn’t, but… here they are! There’s a ton of new stuff: mainly that Beelzebub and Belphegor, the last two from Amakuni, are sculpted and man Beelzebub is SO CUTE ahh! Swimsuit Lucifer is also here (though we’ve seen the sculpt before) and she actually looks a lot cuter than I thought. Last but not least, there’s the Leviathan repaint! Which, to be honest, is bringing the whole thing down. She’s just… ugh, candy colored? What? Ew. [UPDATE] Added closer pictures from moeyo! [via Orchid Seed’s Twitter]

  • Whoo, scans. Pardon my lack of enthusiasm, but the week leading up to Wonder Festival always has me dreading scans. It means extra features (garage kit roundup and wishlist) on top of, well, the event coverage and we have three reviews to work on this week! So when I remembered scans were tonight I nearly cried. For real, ask Stephen. So, let’s just dive right in. Wow, such figures! So PVC! Wowwwww! Maybe I’ll just do every post in Shibe…

  • Just when you thought Orchid Seed was nearly done with the Seven Deadly Sins line, they turn around and pull out some new tricks! Seeing as how Alter is still working on swimsuit versions of the Hyakka Ryouran girls this really isn’t that surprising, but it is interesting that they are announcing it this early on. I mean, Satan and Mammon aren’t even up for order, and Lucifer’s regular figure hasn’t been released! In any case, we have the full art for Lucifer’s swimsuit rendition and I have some mixed feelings about it. I love the pose and sunglasses, but I really wish her bikini top offered a bit more coverage. I’m not a fan of the “I couldn’t find a swimsuit that fit me!” trope because it’s so painfully fanservice-stupid and impractical. Also, Lucifer actually has a pretty realistic chest so I’m betting she could, you know, get a top that fit her. Hopefully Orchid manages to turn this into a sculpt I want! [via Figure/GK]

  • Another month, another round of magazine scans! Like clockwork, it’s that time again. This time we’ve got a whole lot of Tony Taka for you guys, which makes me a very happy camper. Heck, every figure release in the world could be Tony Taka and I’d be pleased. Of course we’ve got other things: Devil Survivor, Fate/Stay Night, Miku, the inevitable Cattleya, figmas, Nendoroids… and not a boy in sight! So check them all out below.
