Macross Frontier Archive

  • We’ve already seen some of the juicier tidbits from Tamashii Nations (Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Ranma 1/2, Digimon) but of course they had a ton more! This is Bandai we’re talking about, one of the most prolific brands, and they brought figures in full force. Can you think of a license Bandai owns? There were probably figures from it at this event. Kantai Collection, One Piece, Saint Seiya, Kamen Rider, Gintama, Precure, Mega Man, Macross, Doraemon.. it’s all there, and tons more! The focus definitely seemed to be on Dragonball Z (not surprising since it has a new show), with a massive amount of merchandise. Including dead Goku! Which I am seriously excited about. No girls though, which is… unfortunate, but lots of muscley dudes. We also got the surprise (text-based) announcement that they will be doing Star Wars S.H.Figuarts–including Jabba the Hutt! • Well, we’ve seen a lot of goodies from Miyazawa Model already, but since this is a smaller-scale event there are a ton of companies that only brought one new thing… and it’s not worthy of its own post. So we’re just going to lump them all together! As you can see in the header, Aoshima’s Silica is painted (and so cute!). Pulchra brought Bekki Natsumi from No-Rin, which has the honor of being one of the most boring figures I’ve ever seen. On the slightly-more-exciting side we’ve got a ton of Ichiban Kuji, including some gorgeous Sheryls I’d love to own and a stunning Homura. And let’s not forget X-Plus, who brought a new and suspect-looking Erza Scarlet. [UPDATE] Added PLUM’s new Mira Yamana from Trinity Seven and Revolve’s painted Liu-Li [via moeyo]

  • I was so thrilled when we saw the reveal for Dollfie Dreams Sheryl Nome and Ranka Lee, except for one thing: the outfit choice. It’s not my favorite of Sheryl’s many costumes, but we usually get alternate outfits for pre-order dolls. They’ve revealed what she will be getting, and it’s probably her most recognizable one! Pre-orders should be opening really soon, and I’m wondering if we will get an alternate outfit for Ranka as well? Honestly, I’d love if they went crazy and did 3 or 4 for each girl! • I was thrilled when Volks announced that they would (finally) be doing Dollfie Dreams of Ranka & Sheryl… especially since it’s a double release revealed in mid-fall. You know who else were just like that? Extra & Alter and KOS-MOS & Momo! Yeah, so there was a high probability of them being pre-order dolls. And indeed it’s been confirmed, with orders tentatively slated for November! This is great news because I am totally in love with Sheryl. I love the DDs with more defined noses, and her faceup is beautiful. While I am not 100% sold on Ranka that’s just because the big eyes aren’t always for me, but oh my god the lightning bolt shoes. I think I need both of them. [via the DD Twitter]

  • It has been a while since I was really interested in a Dollfie Dream release (except, of course, for Ranko, who I did not win and we don’t speak of). This is mostly because… well, Stephen and I just have too many Dollfies and we need to stop buying them. Which means nipping DD lust in the bud and not getting excited about releases. But I think that is about to change, because Volks is FINALLY doing some Macross Dollfies. Sheryl and Ranka (who I am guessing will be on a DDS body)! If they nail Sheryl’s face I just know I won’t be able to resist her: I’m a big fan of their prominent sculpted noses (KOS-MOS, Rise, Alna, etc). [via Satottoro’s Twitter]

  • It’s been a while since we featured a prize fair on the site, since they’ve been dull dull dull. Evangelion, Evangelion, and more Evangelion. But the 34th has some lovely surprises, like… a Cardcaptor Sakura prize figure! For real. Look at the header. It’s not a mirage, it’s real life, and it’s glorious. Of course there are other figure (but who cares SAKURA), like… tons of Attack on Titan stuff! Also the usual suspects: Vocaloid, Madoka, Macross, Yuru Yuri, Evangelion (even I’m tired of it…), Bakemonogatari, To Aru, Sword Art Online, Kantai Collection, and… Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! (finally!). [via moeyo]

  • We tend to focus on PVC coverage during Wonder Festival because, well… those are the things most of us can buy! But really, there are about ten times as many garage kits at the event as pre-painted PVC. Actually… that might be underestimating it, the garage kit area is HUGE! We’ve already shown you some of the kits that will be at the event like Purple Heart, Yagyuu Toshiyuki’s Marisa Kirisame, an acrobatic Saber Bride, chibi Saber Lily, Toda Satoshi’s terrifying Passionlip, and Coneckers’ Momiji. But of course there are a ton more, and we’ve got some really lovely kits this time around. My personal favorites are Vispo’s astonishing Jeanne d’Arc & her horse–though Jeanne seems very popular this WonFest!–, the bathing suit IDOLM@STER trio, the gory Labrys, and Atelier Hiro’s punk rock Miku Hatsune. And my oh my do we have a lot of Mikus. Chec them all out (and plenty more) in the gallery! • I’m honestly shocked that it took Good Smile Company so long to add the Macross Frontier girls to their Nendoroid line. I mean Sheryl and Ranka have both proven to have longevity in the figure world–just look at the aftermarket prices on any one of their Ichiban Kujis! So of course fans where thrilled when both girls were announced at Winter Wonder Festival, but personally I was a bit let down by the finished Sheryl. She just didn’t have the panache I was expecting, but Ranka is my favorite of the two so I was hoping she’d come out a bit better. Thankfully, I think they managed to pull off a real charmer this time around! Her ~Kira~ pose alone makes her worth the buy, but she also has an assortment of adorable faces, a microphone, and a stage base. I do wish she had a few more accessories since, essentially, she has one… which compared to some recent girls like Nana and Yukari is kind of pathetic. She’ll be going up for order on the 17th, but I doubt this is the last we’ll see of these two… I sense a whole lot of other outfits and versions in GSC’s future. [via Mikatan]

  • Another month, another round of magazine scans! Like clockwork, it’s that time again. This time we’ve got a whole lot of Tony Taka for you guys, which makes me a very happy camper. Heck, every figure release in the world could be Tony Taka and I’d be pleased. Of course we’ve got other things: Devil Survivor, Fate/Stay Night, Miku, the inevitable Cattleya, figmas, Nendoroids… and not a boy in sight! So check them all out below.

  • Without a doubt the most hyped-up Nendoroid announcement to come out of Winter Wonder Festival 2013 was Sheryl Nome, the songstress fans have only been begging for for, oh, I dunno, ages and ages. Well, she popped up painted a short while ago so it’s no surprise she’s getting an official preview and pre-orders are set for tonight! Yup, you read that right, and we’re even getting a sneak peek at Ranka’s sculpt. Sheryl, like sadly quite a few Nendos recently, doesn’t come with a ton of accessories. She has three faces–standard, shouting, and a serene singing one–which any fan probably could have guessed would be included. Then she’s got a microphone and a stand. Also pretty predictable. And… that’s it! But I am feeling like we might get a few alternate costume Sheryls, hopefully with more exciting extras? Well, we can dream at least! [via Mikatan]
