@GeekeryDo: @mikeyturvey I agree with you. I stopped reading them because I got tired of it, though @Sir_Narwhal is correct that it's normal for comics.

@GeekeryDo: @Sir_Narwhal @mikeyturvey yeh but that's just one arc and it's easy to read it all since, as you said, it's been put together like that.

@NFern0: @Sir_Narwhal Sounds like (ohoho) specialist equipment. Black Friday is more mass consumer oriented isn't it?

Mara Jade Archive

One of the new Bishoujo sculpts Kotobukiya brought to New York Comic Con was Mara Jade, who has been garnering a lot of attention among Star Wars fans. Probably because she’s as awesome and perfect as her predecessor, Jaina Solo (review)! One of our favorite things about cons is that we can get a look at these figures behind the glass and take them for a “spin” and definitely the one I was looking forward to most.
Her promotional shots are already up on Kotobukiya’s page but she looks even better in person! I honestly think she might be their best Bish yet. She’s the full package: identical to Shunya Yamashita’s art, tasteful but sexy, a detailed and well thought-out sculpt, excellent use of clear PVC, and…. a fantastic butt!

Star Wars and Kotobukiya go hand and hand as seen by their new announcement of A New Hope ArtFX+ figures, but that wasn’t all that was new at their panel. Some new merchandise is on the way in the form of Stormtrooper, Darth Vader, and C-3PO business card holders as well as Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader light up lightsaber chopsticks. We also got another peek at Jango Fett and General Grievous, both of whom we got a detailed look at back at Toy Fair. The big new announcement was that the fan choice winner for the next Trooper set is the Sandtrooper and they’ll be coming in two different ways: a Sandtrooper Squad Leader two-pack and a Sandtrooper Sergeant single pack.
The star of New York Comic Con, the exclusive R2-Q5, which we saw back at Toy Fair, was also shown off and an international version with a silver coin was announced. Rounding things off, Jaina Solo and Mara Jade’s bishoujos were shown off and we finally got a glimpse of Mara’s backside, which definitely has the Shunya vibe to it.

Kotobukiya’s next Star Wars Bishoujo, Mara Jade, has been highly anticipated for quite a while now. After all, her announcement was in July of last year! And then, almost exactly one year later we got to see the finished art! We guessed that we’d be seeing the sculpt at the next big convention and guessing by this teaser and the fact that NYCC is a day away… yeah, we’re going to be getting a peek at her very soon!
But for now, there’s only a tiny teaser! Of, uh, an arm. And a cape! Wow, such excitement. So Star Wars. Much force. But really I am excited, since Jaina turned out so spectacularly!

The first time Stephen and I did any in-person event coverage it was Toy Fair 2009, and our first booth was Kotobukiya’s. Back then their only Star Wars merchandise was their awesome lightsaber chopsticks: while those are still in production, they’ve come a long way! This year at SDCC they had a staggering number of figures from the franchise. Everything from pretty girls to monsters!
They had the full art for Mara Jade’s Bishoujo along with Jaina Solo (review)–I wonder how long it will take Mara to get sculpted? They had some of their older statues, like the amazing Darth Maul, and they also premiered their NYCC 2013 exclusive: R2-Q5! D’aww, evil robots. Last but most definitely not least is the announcement of several A New Hope ArtFX+ figures: Luke, Leia, Han Solo and Chewbacca!

It’s been a very long time since Kotobukiya announced they would add Mara Jade to their Star Wars Bishoujo line–so long that some fans were worried we’d never see her. But Jaina (review) took a similarly long time to make it to shelves, so I wasn’t that worried about it. I mean, there’s no way they would cancel a Star Wars figure!
Now, finally, we are getting the official art for Mara Jade and she looks AMAZING. I honestly wasn’t that excited for her before seeing Shunya’s rendition, but now I can’t wait for the sculpt. The pose might not be that dynamic but I love the sense of power she exudes and come on, who doesn’t love redheads? Plus, lightsaber!

It was quite a while ago that Kotobukiya announced their Star Wars Bishoujo line, but Jaina Solo was only completed recently! We knew there would be more girls in the line, but no word on who would be getting art from Shunya. Now we know that it’s Mara Jade, an assassin-turned-Jedi who is mostly from the extended universe. Hopefully we’ll be able to see her sculpt soon!
