  • Ah, Amakuni. I love their figures but I hate getting them, because they are always exclusives. Unfortunately for me (and my wallet), they have so many new figures my heart yearns for. I mean first off, and most obviously, my Persona 5 gals! Anne, Motoko, Futaba (light of my life), and now… Death Waifu?! I can’t believe they’re moving on to social link romances and leaving Haru in the dust. Poor Haru. And then there’s the gorgeous Tony Taka Racing Miku (be still my heart), and Yu-Gi-Oh DX’s Jaden. They showed off quite a few new things as well, like the Satsuki and Ryuuko from Kill la Kill they are adding to the weird “hot springs bath” line or whatever that is. We’ve also got Erina from Queen’s Blade Unlimited: the second QB figure of the night! I wonder why there’s been such a resurgence? And will we be getting new, cute Ymirs in the future?! [via moeyo]

  • As a company, MegaHouse absolutely bamboozles me. On one hand we have their cute, nostalgic, simple-but-well-made lines like their amazing Digimon and Pokemon figures, which were both out and about at MegaHobby. Then they bust out the occasional magnificent sculpt, like our header girl: Airi from Queen’s Blade! I cannot explain my excitement when I saw her: I always wanted a great Airi figure but assumed that time had come & gone long ago. But no, MegaHouse to the rescue! Then we have the other half of their line: the painfully tacky and often out-of-character girls, especially from beloved shows like Naruto and Dragonball Z. They’ve butchered so many of my faves. Just look at that Hinata. It hurts my soul. And I remember C.C in a lot more clothing, don’t you? The One Piece girls obviously fall into this category: the anatomy has gotten so bad that I kind of think it’s some big elaborate joke. The sculpting for this “side” of them is often simple to a fault and looks like it could have been from 8 years ago. Put Airi, the new Digimon boys, and that awful stripper pole Nami together: do they look like the same company? What is going on with MegaHouse?!?! [via moeyo]

  • Sometimes I think Aniplex should just change their name to “We Make Fate/Stay Night Figures, The Company.” Because let’s be real, recently that’s all they’ve done. Thankfully, they are quite good at it: their painted Ishtar might be the most beautiful figure I’ve ever seen from the franchise. They also had a beautiful casual Saber from Heaven’s Feel, along with the announcement for a gorgeous dressy Jeanne d’Arc. You know, I love Jeanne, but I don’t have a single figure of her! Maybe this will be the one? There were, of course, a handful of non-Fate figures out like their lovely and complex Asuna! Check them all out and more in the gallery below. [via moeyo]

  • Ah, MegaHobby Expo, Wonder Festival’s little brother. Years ago the two rivaled each other in scale, but as time has passed MegaHobby has gotten smaller and smaller. Fewer companies, fewer figures. But there are always a few gems to be found! We’ll start the coverage with Alter, one of my favorite companies (though as you may know, they have recently fallen out of the “affordable” bracket and into the “look longingly from a distance” bracket for me). They had quite a few cuties out on display, including many updates to their Wonder Festival sculpts. Jeanne d’Arc definitely stole the show for me! The only brand-new reveal was Arie Nadja from Madou Monogatari who is so adorably retro it hurts. [via moeyo]

  • I tend to think of MegaHouse as a company that thrives on nostalgia. If it’s a new series, they hardly give it the time of day: it’s all about our childhood shows and long-running anime. So imagine my surprise at their big MegaHobby announcement: Yuri on Ice figures! If you told me they would be the first to hop on what I’m sure will be an insane figure hype-train, I would have laughed, but here we are. Of course they had a ton of nostalgia going on too. Their full Pokemon line was out, looking impressive, and showing off the Ash & Charizard figure we’ve all been waiting for. Plus a huge Digimon one too! Sadly, the new Android 18 is just as tacky and inaccurate as the first, but it’s kind of countered by a non-boobytastic Tsunade. Also a recolor of their gorgeous Elf!We’ve got Sailor Moon, Zatch Bell, One Piece, Naruto, D. Gray-Man, Space Battleship Yamato, Gundam, and so much more. Check them all out in the gallery! • Alter has always been my favorite figure manufacturer, and while there have been times my heart was swayed by others (Max Factory! AlphaMax! Orchid Seed!), I come back to them time and time again because of their consistent quality and unique sculpts. And once again they brought it in force to MegaHobby with a variety of gorgeous sculpts, painted figures, and new announcements. Of course there were a few from their IDOLM@STER line: their Rin Shibuya (who looks basically identical to the GSC one, let’s be honest) is painted, and they brought out the sculpt for their perfect winged Ranko who I love with all my heart. And the boys were out in force! Rei and Ritsu Sakuma from Ensemble Stars!, Cecil Aijima from Uta no☆Prince-sama♪, Haruka Nanase and Tachibana Mako from Free!, and an announcement for 3 new Free! boys: Sousuke Yamazaki, Nagisa Hazuki, and Rei Ryuugazaki. Plus the brand-new Dio Eraclea from Last Exile. They also had a beautiful 1/6 scale figure of Takao, the cheesy but appealing Santa Saber Alter, Ikumi Mito finally sculpted, Lala Deviluke in a maid outfit, Plachta from the Atelier games, and two new announcements: Hikari Karibuchi from Brave Witches and Okoi from Oboro Muramasa! • Amakuni is moving on up in the world. They used to be a company totally under my radar: they released only a handful of figures a month, tended to focus on fanservice, and only made exclusives. Well, the last two are still true, but they are ramping up their production (and quality!) like woah based on their MegaHobby display. The star of the show is definitely Anne Takamaki from Persona 5, along with an announcement for Makoto Niijima. I hope this is the first of many announcements for the game! We also have shockingly original duo-figure of Megaman X and Zero, a ton of Kantai Collection (Kashima, Ooyoda, Haruna, Libeccio, and Mutsu), the addition of Yuzuruha to their Muramasa line (along with alternate “wet” versions of Momohime and Kongiku), their cute Sonico which is ruined by the boobs, Orange Heart from the Neptunia franchise, and so much more. Like Ryoubi from Senran Kagura, a bunny version of Sword & Wizards‘ Fuyuka Yukishiro, the painted Deena Challenger, Cleric from Bikini Warriors, and announcement for Alice Shimada from Girls und Panzer, and the way too perfect Cyan from Show By Rock. I want so many of these figures… [via 1up]

  • Amakuni, aka “maker of expensive exclusives I want but never pull the trigger on,” brought a small but well curated selection of figures to MegaHobby Expo. First and foremost, their serene Homura & Madoka figure set is finally painted–and maybe it’s just the paint, but their hands look a little less awkward here. They’ve also sculpted their Yukime from Jigoku Sensei Nube, who appears to be on a giant snowman head. I approve. Then we have two brand-new figures! A rather plain figure of Kantai Collection’s Mutsu and a definitely not plain figure of Ii Naotora from Sengoku Musou 4 . Her hair is so dynamic! [UPDATE] Kokuten no Miko Tamayorihime from Wixoss was on display as well! [via AmiAmi’s Twitter]

  • Since MegaHobby Expo is basically an event hosted by MegaHouse, you see a lot of them at events. A LOT. In fact, I think at least half the figures we saw at it were from them. And to be honest, I’m usually so unimpressed by their offerings that I breeze right on through. But this year? They’re stepping it up! We already saw the new Pokemon figures but they had a ton of goodies. First up we’ve got their Gundam Wing figures painted. I feel like I’ve been waiting so long for these! We also have a few new Digimon figures and an announcement for Daisuke & Veemon. Their Lunch is painted (and actually two separate figures!), we’ve got a brand-new adult Hinata, tons of One Piece, and so much more. Check them all out in the gallery! [UPDATE] Added Android 18. I have to say, I’m kind of disappointed in this line after seeing her & Lunch(s). They’re really pushing the sex appeal and I know DBZ has its moments but it’s also a kid’s show! My nostalgia is being Rule 34’d. [via AmiAmi’s Twitter & whitenoize]

  • It’s really the best time to be a Pokemon fan. We’ve got new games coming out (which means new starter wars–I’m team Litten, though Rowlet is cute af), we’ve got so many figures… what a time to be alive. And what a day for Pokemon news! We have double the fun. First up, Kotobukiya’s Ash (or Red, or whatever you want to call him) is painted. And so perfect! I’ve dreamed of this for so long. Then we have two new announcements from MegaHouse. They’ll be adding both Nurse Joy and Brock to their G.E.M line! And so far, it hasn’t included exclusives so… hey, a girl can dream. Nurse Joy comes with Chancey and Brock comes with Geodude (and friends) and I am TOO EXCITED. What a day. [UPDATE] But wait, there’s more! MegaHouse is making action figures of both Lucario and Mewtwo. [via AmiAmi’s Twitter]
