MegaHobby Expo Fall 2017 Archive

  • Ah, Amakuni. I love their figures but I hate getting them, because they are always exclusives. Unfortunately for me (and my wallet), they have so many new figures my heart yearns for. I mean first off, and most obviously, my Persona 5 gals! Anne, Motoko, Futaba (light of my life), and now… Death Waifu?! I can’t believe they’re moving on to social link romances and leaving Haru in the dust. Poor Haru. And then there’s the gorgeous Tony Taka Racing Miku (be still my heart), and Yu-Gi-Oh DX’s Jaden. They showed off quite a few new things as well, like the Satsuki and Ryuuko from Kill la Kill they are adding to the weird “hot springs bath” line or whatever that is. We’ve also got Erina from Queen’s Blade Unlimited: the second QB figure of the night! I wonder why there’s been such a resurgence? And will we be getting new, cute Ymirs in the future?! [via moeyo]

  • As a company, MegaHouse absolutely bamboozles me. On one hand we have their cute, nostalgic, simple-but-well-made lines like their amazing Digimon and Pokemon figures, which were both out and about at MegaHobby. Then they bust out the occasional magnificent sculpt, like our header girl: Airi from Queen’s Blade! I cannot explain my excitement when I saw her: I always wanted a great Airi figure but assumed that time had come & gone long ago. But no, MegaHouse to the rescue! Then we have the other half of their line: the painfully tacky and often out-of-character girls, especially from beloved shows like Naruto and Dragonball Z. They’ve butchered so many of my faves. Just look at that Hinata. It hurts my soul. And I remember C.C in a lot more clothing, don’t you? The One Piece girls obviously fall into this category: the anatomy has gotten so bad that I kind of think it’s some big elaborate joke. The sculpting for this “side” of them is often simple to a fault and looks like it could have been from 8 years ago. Put Airi, the new Digimon boys, and that awful stripper pole Nami together: do they look like the same company? What is going on with MegaHouse?!?! [via moeyo]

  • Sometimes I think Aniplex should just change their name to “We Make Fate/Stay Night Figures, The Company.” Because let’s be real, recently that’s all they’ve done. Thankfully, they are quite good at it: their painted Ishtar might be the most beautiful figure I’ve ever seen from the franchise. They also had a beautiful casual Saber from Heaven’s Feel, along with the announcement for a gorgeous dressy Jeanne d’Arc. You know, I love Jeanne, but I don’t have a single figure of her! Maybe this will be the one? There were, of course, a handful of non-Fate figures out like their lovely and complex Asuna! Check them all out and more in the gallery below. [via moeyo]

  • Ah, MegaHobby Expo, Wonder Festival’s little brother. Years ago the two rivaled each other in scale, but as time has passed MegaHobby has gotten smaller and smaller. Fewer companies, fewer figures. But there are always a few gems to be found! We’ll start the coverage with Alter, one of my favorite companies (though as you may know, they have recently fallen out of the “affordable” bracket and into the “look longingly from a distance” bracket for me). They had quite a few cuties out on display, including many updates to their Wonder Festival sculpts. Jeanne d’Arc definitely stole the show for me! The only brand-new reveal was Arie Nadja from Madou Monogatari who is so adorably retro it hurts. [via moeyo]
