MegaHobby Expo Spring 2015 Archive

  • A few weeks ago we showed you Kotobukiya’s painted sculpt for their Hestia, this season’s new overnight It Girl, and now, today, we’re seeing her full sculpt, which we now know is 1/7th scale. Featuring her signature ribbon bra that makes absolutely no sense, Hestia here looks pretty spot on to her in show model. That said, now that we’re getting some other angles of her, one thing really ridiculously bugs me about their sculpt of her: her breast sculpt is completely nonsensical, which is the exact opposite of what DanMachi portrays as Hestia is always drawn with more lifelike breasts that would not float like this. I’d really like to see her bust redone before she goes into production as breasts, especially ones held up by a ribbon, do not act like how they are here — gravity is a thing, guys! Now onto Kotobukiya’s other figure on hand: Saber from Fate Stay/Night: Unlimited Blade Works, the It Girl of the last like… 10 years. It’s been a while since we’ve gotten a figure of Saber in her standard blue dress with armor outfit and I’m a bit on the fence with Koto’s version here. Everything’s executed well in the sculpt, but sadly she’s just standing there. Yes, it’s an iconic pose for her, but after having just so many Saber figures to choose from, many of which have incredibly dynamic poses compared to this, it just feels like it’s a figure aimed at no one as most collectors are still suffering from Saber fatigue. • MegaHobby is a pretty predictable event: we get pretty much the same companies every year, time after time. So when you see a figure that’s not with any of those manufacturers, it’s kind of surprising. You pause and say, “what? It’s by… who now?” That was pretty much my reaction when I saw this figure of Alice from Hello!! Kiniro Mosaic by Revolve. Revolve is a pretty tiny company who only has a few releases, and honestly this kind of looks like a MegaHouse figure, right? But it’s not. IT IS SO CUTE THOUGH. I just wanna pinch her cheeks, aaaah! ADORABLE! [via Oyj’s Twitter]

  • Amakuni, unsurprisingly, showed up at MegaHobby–I mean, Hobby Japan is one of the founders… and they are Hobby Japan’s figure manufacturer. We already saw what we have in the works for the Seven Deadly Sins, but what else is up their sleeves? Unsurprisingly, they brought both the figures they just showed off in magazine scans: Hestia and Momohime! I have to say, I was excited for Momo but she does not look so great here. Maybe it’s the event lighting but I HATE the expression and the sculpt is lackluster. Hestia, though… I don’t like her design but I like this sculpt. It’s like opposite day up in here! [via figsoku]

  • We’ve already seen quite a few of the figures MegaHouse brought to MegaHobby (Digimon, Sailor Moon, Bikini Warriors), but what else did they have on display? One Piece. Like, a whole lot of One Piece. Bikini Nami, action figure bikini Nami, bikini Boa and Robin we can’t show you… I’m so tired of One Piece. If I never have to write up another Nami figure I’ll sacrifice a baby to the figure gods. Oh, there were some other things too! Like the header girl, the totally adorable Kiraseiten Arcana. And Erina Nakiri from Shokugeki no Souma! Oh, and they brought a figure of Angela Balzac… behind frosted glass. Wow, so smart. Check them out and more in the gallery. [via figsoku]

  • If Orchid Seed or Hobby Japan/Amakuni is attending an event, you can bet that there will be a few Seven Deadly Sins figures making an appearance! MegaHobby Spring was no exception, with three demon girls showing up. Can you believe we all actually thought there would be 7 figures in this line? Haha, what fools we were. The 9th Sin (and the only one of the original line I won’t be buying) Belial showed up, along with Mammon and Asmodeus’ alternate versions. I could take or leave the alt Mammon, but ohhhhh god gimmie that ice cream Azzie. [via figsoku & ojy]

  • When I first heard of Hobby Japan’s newest figure collaboration, Bikini Warriors, I thought it was totally absurd, but it’s slowly been growing on me. I mean, is it any more absurd than Hyakka Ryouran, Queen’s Blade, or the 7 Deadly Sins? Nope, and all of those have given us some fabulous figures. And hey, once Tony Taka got added to the lineup I was totally on board. We have a ton of updates from MegaHobby: Dark Elf is painted (I hate her boobs but god everything else is so fabuloussss), while Paladin and Fighter have been sculpted. I love both of them! What is happening to me! [via figsoku]

  • I used to be absolutely blown away by Alter’s displays at the seasonal festivals. Now I wonder: am I jaded from being in the collecting hobby for to long, or has the general quality/impressiveness actually taken a nosedive? Sure, there are some lovely figures on display here. We have two (well, 3 but 2 of them are 1 figure) Strike Witches girls, a shiny male figure, and the impressively sculpted Haruna. And how can I forget swimsuit Lorna? I’m a sucker for a wolf maid in a bikini. But there’s also some blah. Yui Kotegawa is nothing to write home about–she could have come out 6 or 7 years ago, honestly, the sculpt is so bland. And there’s yet another Saber–excuse me, I mean Back Alley Satsuki. I don’t know, nothing here is screaming “oh my god, figure of the year, BUY ME!” But what about you guys? See anything that you absolutely have to own? [UPDATE] Added Charles, who is finally painted! [via figsoku]

  • Bandai and Megahouse have been fulfilling the childhood dreams of Sailor Moon fans around the globe, giving us everything from the girls in their sailor outfits to their… well, school outfits! For the latter, we have what was on display at MegaHobby: MegaHouse’s Sekai Seifuku Sakusen line. Featured this time around were Makoto Kino and Minako Aino, the newest additions. But that’s not all they had out! We also had their Petit Chara Land Deluxe, which is some kind of weird Nendoroid type… thing. What about Bandai’s Chibi-Arts? Is that EVER coming out? • Since MegaHouse first announced their line of Digimon figures, I’ve been praying for one thing: an Angewomon. AND FINALLY IT IS HAPPENING. Can you feel my joy through your computer screen? Can you?!?! Because I am SO HAPPY. Look at her. She’s glorious. There’s a little Hikari too ahh. Oh, and we get Angemon and Takeru as well! And… Ken! Because that’s totally up to par WITH THE MAJESTY OF ANGEWOMON AND ANGEMON. [via anime_yoyaku’s Twitter]
