Melty Archive

  • Remember those rumors about a DD Sasara re-release? Well, seems like it wasn’t all hot air–it is actually happening! Both Sasara and the more recent Melty will be getting “re-releases” for Dolpa 32, which takes place on December 14th. Why re-release in quotes? Well, they’re both in new outfits, so technically they are different from the base models! And, obviously, Sasara is getting the newer DDdy body. Melty will be in (surprise) her Christmas-themed outfit for ¥62,000, which is basically just the base one with a color swap. I have two of the original Melty and love her to death, so this is great news for people lusting after her! Sasara will be in a sweeter, lighter-colored outfit than her original release and will retail for ¥66,000. [via pink_dokuro’s Twitter]

  • One of Tony Taka’s original Melty illustrations features her in full Christmas garb–even Sorbet gets a festive update! It just so happens that it’s a variation of the art Alter based their gorgeous Melty figure on. But Alter isn’t big on recolors–they only do a few a year, and usually only for events. But it seems they’re changing their ways: first with that god awful Dizzy, but they’re making up for it with a figure I thought would only exist in my dreams: Christmas Melty! The Christmas spirit seems to be sweeping through the figure world a bit early, first with xmas Elizabeth and now Melty! But I am a Christmas figure fiend, so the more the merrier. I actually have Kotobukiya’s Night Before Christmas Tamaki on my nightstand year round. No word yet if this variant will be an exclusive, but I am praying the answer is no! [via Alter’s Blog]

  • Just the other day I was bemoaning the disappearance of Max Factory’s swimsuit Melty from Shining Hearts. Now, only 2 days after the official start of fall (and thus the end of swimsuit season, unless of course you live below the equator!) she’s back and thankfully ready for orders! Everyone knows I am a huge sucker for Tony Taka, elf ears, pink, clear PVC and ruffles (along with cute animal companions, a weakness I’ve been less vocal about) so this is an instant win for me. I mean she’s just SO CUTE. Though let’s face it, Sorbet is cuter. His little inflatable tube, hehe. You can take off Melty’s skirt (and hat) if that’s your thing but she ventures into creepy “kid in a swimsuit” territory for me without it. Melty will retail for ¥8,800 with a March release, and orders open this week. [via the figma blog]

  • Whoo, scans. Pardon my lack of enthusiasm, but the week leading up to Wonder Festival always has me dreading scans. It means extra features (garage kit roundup and wishlist) on top of, well, the event coverage and we have three reviews to work on this week! So when I remembered scans were tonight I nearly cried. For real, ask Stephen. So, let’s just dive right in. Wow, such figures! So PVC! Wowwwww! Maybe I’ll just do every post in Shibe…

  • Another month, another round of magazine scans! Like clockwork, it’s that time again. This time we’ve got a whole lot of Tony Taka for you guys, which makes me a very happy camper. Heck, every figure release in the world could be Tony Taka and I’d be pleased. Of course we’ve got other things: Devil Survivor, Fate/Stay Night, Miku, the inevitable Cattleya, figmas, Nendoroids… and not a boy in sight! So check them all out below.

  • In the past, Max Factory has taken on the girls from Shining Tears and Shining Wind in swimsuit lineups: only in groups of four, and their Shining Hearts line is far more ambitious. It includes not four, but 9 girls. Yes, 9! Lorna, Mistral, Xiao-Mei, Melty, Neris, Aerie, Amil, Kaguya, and Rufina. These popped up in magazine scans well over a year ago, and it seems only now are they officially being like “oh yeah, we’re totally doing these!” But considering how amazing the past 8 girls came out, I am more than willing to wait. We have designs for 7 of the 9 in the gallery–Kaguya and Rufina aren’t done yet, though Rufina might be the one I am looking forward to the most. Okay, okay, I am looking forward to them all the most! Except maybe the three bakery sisters, who happen to be a bit dull compared to twintailed pirates, winged princesses, wolf girls, cat girls and elf goth lolis. But there’s no doubt that once completed, this set will be totally spectacular! [via 4gamer]

While there are only ten figures this week we’ve got some really great (and very expensive) ones, ranging from painfully cute to totally badass to downright confusing. So check them all out after the jump!

  • I am a massive Tony Taka fan and my favorite character design of his (behind my beloved Elwing, of course) is Melty. I mean, I’m borderline obsessed with her. I own all of her figures: though given that there is really just the Kotobukiya version (review) and the Dollfie Dream (which we have two of!), that’s not really saying so much. But now, finally, my long-awaited Alter Melty is ready to order! I am totally blown away once again by the detail Alter puts into their figures. The shading is perfection, every single frill and fold and bow of her costume is sculpted with precision, the color palette is so soft and dreamy. And to top it off her base is ice cream and she comes with a miniature dragon named Sorbet who is holding an ice pop. Really, what is not to love? Orders open on the 13th and I will try really really hard not to pick up two. [via Alter’s Blog]

  • Alter is my favorite company, but recently they’ve kind of been doing more and more boring sculpts. Case in point: THEIR ENTIRE WONFEST LINEUP. I mean god. We have Kanna Tanigawa, Eru Chitanda, Saber Alter & Lily (who we saw), Kazuno (who is awesome but announced like 4 months ago), Melty (who we have seen painted), and an announcement for Aty from Summon Night 3. At least Estelle is cute? [via AmiAmi’s Facebook]

  • We just got a nice gallery of Aoko, so of course Melty is up next! As I’ve stated Melty is my favorite of the Dolpa 28 girls, and she’s the one Stephen and I have entered for! This gallery is just making me more excited to find out the results, because Melty is absolutely gorgeous. In the wig they have her in she reminds me a bit of Yuki Morikawa, though really she’s like an improved version of Sakuya. [via the DD Blog]
