Miyazawa Model Exhibition Archive

  • At any event they attend, Good Smile Company and their numerous umbrella companies always steal the show. How can they not, with so much firepower? Of course Nendoroids were right at the forefront. Megumin, Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke, lots of KanColle (Hatsuzuki, Kiso, Pola), Caster Extra, Hajime Iwaizumi, and Boba Fett all made an appearance. And of course figmas too! We had Takao, Iowa, and Mumei on display. Max Factory brought their new To LOVEru girl, Yuuki Mikan, and we had FREEing’s bunny Ryuuko Matoi. Last but not least, there’s Phat!’s Parform Hikari Karibuchi and Saber. [UPDATE] Added a few stray figures! [UPDATE 2] Added one last announcement: 22 Niang and 33 Niang from Bilibili! • We saw what Good Smile Company & co and Vertex brought to Miyazawa Model, but of course a few others showed up as well! Though it seems like everyone else was limited to one or two new figures up their sleeves. Kotobukiya had just a handful of new stuff: Wilhelmina Braunschweig Ingenohl Friedeburg (why with this naming) from High School Fleet, aka “that KanColle ripoff” and…. Spike is finally painted! Revolve didn’t have much, but they did have announcements for Rem & Ram from Re:Zero. Aoshima had a lovely Izetta from Shuumatsu no Izetta on display, and Medicom had out their Gary/Blue/whatever you want to call him. Pulchra announced two new Vocaloids: Yukari Yuzuki and… a different figure of Yukari. And let’s not forget about the wacky EVA Unit-01 action figure on display! [via amiami & hobby_maniax]

  • So MegaHobby was, like, 3 days ago but apparently it’s totally time for another event to happen! Because all the companies not at MH had to do something with their time. First up is Vertex, aka “how do boobs work because I’ve never seen a human female.” There are so many hilarious boobs on display! From seasonally appropriate boobage (the Valkyrie Chronicles girls, and Santa Sonico–remember when she had a realistic bust?), to cyber boobage (Purple Heart, whose boobs are trying to escape her body), to the traditional gravity-deftying boobage (Fiona from Border Break!). But there were almost-realistic girls on display too, like Sakuya from Shining Blade. And their announcements, like Noel from Blazblue, are pretty surprising given their usual demographic. Brunhilde from Aoki Kakumei no Valkyria is, however, exactly what I’d expect from them. [via Vertex’s Twitter]

  • It seems like Good Smile Company & co brought more to Miyazawa Model Expo than everyone else combined. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have good stuff from the other companies! In fact, we have way more non-GSC news to show you. So let’s just dive right in! Vertex showed off a ton of sculpts, including the Rune Knight from 7th Dragon which looks amazing. Kaitendoh’s Hestia is painted, and Wave brought theirs as well (along with tons of Beach Queens, most of them from Love Live). Dragon Toy/Daiki Kougyou showed off a handful of new sculpts, including some original Oda Non works. One of AlphaMax’s newest Tony Taka girls is painted, Orchid Seed actually made progress on a figure, we have announcements from Revolve and Gecco, there’s a new set of Digimon figures from MegaHouse, and tons more. Check it all out in the gallery! [via Akibahobby]

  • Miyazawa Model Exhibition is one of those “in-between” events. Nestled right in the middle of Summer WonFest and Fall MegaHobby, it’s a chance for companies to… not really show off much new. Let’s be honest, they save the big stuff for the big event, so we don’t get a ton of news from Miyazawa. But Good Smile Company & co brought, like, literally everything they’re working on (that we know about). Just a TON of stuff. Most of it was things we knew about, but we do have some updates: their lovely Felia is finally painted (and, well, no as pretty as I expected), Nendoroid Sheeda from Fire Emblem is finished, figma Yugi showed up, and basically we got a ton of other paint updates. The star of the show was definitely Mebae Miku: hopefully her orders open soon! [via Akibahobby]

  • I’ve loved AlphaMax for a long time, but good lord are they slow sometimes–especially for the art-based figures. It seems like a lifetime ago that some of these got announced, though certainly not as bad as what we go through with Orchid Seed or Native. There’s a correlation there… the less clothing, the longer it takes to get to production. Hmm. AlphaMax didn’t have a ton going on at Miyazawa, but we did get a nice look at some of their in-progress sculpts! And a nice solid hint and which Tony Taka figure they’ll be sculpting next (hint: it’s not the swan girls, I’m crying plz hurry). Oh, and the somehow-terrible Ai from Fault! was there. Their first figure of her was so nice, what happened… [EDIT: The Fault! girls are Dragon Toy, not AlphaMax. Thanks, EnigmaMerc!] [via Akibahobby]

  • Aquamarine doesn’t produce a lot of figures, but there’s no doubt that they can do it well… when they try. Laura from Infinite Stratos is a good example of when they don’t try. It’s not pretty. But for the most part, they make well-sculpted figures of characters that don’t get a ton of attention. And while most of their Miyazawa lineup was (unsurprisingly) kind of old stuff, they did have one shiny new sculpt: their amazing Golden Darkness! The horns, the hair, the pose. I’m so smitten. • Are you sensing the theme of this Miyazawa Model Exhibition? It’s Check Out This Stuff You’ve Already Seen. Because seriously, Kotobukiya’s lineup is almost identical to what we saw at Anime Japan… and most of that wasn’t even new. I was hoping we’d get a peek at Hestia‘s sculpt, but alas, it’s just super cute (but redundant) IDOLM@STER and KanColle girls. Honestly, I feel like that’s the joke at every booth. “Look, IM@S and KanColle!” There is, at least, a pretty cute CuPoche display… I mean, the raincoats. So adorable! [via Akibahobby]

  • MegaHouse used to be a company with a surprising amount of variety, but recently they seem to have found their niches. At every event it’s the same series lineup: One Piece, Naruto, Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon, and the Gundam & Yamato girls (who, surprisingly, did not show up at Miyazawa Model!). So, surprise, that’s what MegaHouse had on display! Thrilling, right? I mean, the fox girl from Shinrabanshou Chocolate was on display, but she’s been up for order or a while now so it’s nothing to get too excited over. [via Akibahobby]

  • What is up with Griffon recently? It’s kind of a mess over there, I guess. Their quality has gone up and they’ve actually made some very nice figures recently (Alleyne, Charlotte, Cecilia), but most of their announced figures are totally stagnant. This is sadly super clear at Miyazawa Model, where they brought art… for figures that have been in the art stage for over a year. It’s kind of sad, because honestly I want the Date A Live girls if they come out as nice as Griffon’s recent offerings. But the few sculpted figures they DID bring look kind of horrible. They’ve always been hit-or-miss, but this event was particularly telling. I’m hoping we see some improvements soon… [via Akibahobby]
