Movie Bishoujo Archive

  • When Kotobukiya started the Movie Bishoujo line, I never in a million years would have guessed that there would be a Tarantino girl in the mix. But here we are, living in the future. A future of Kill Bill Bishoujos. While I’m not a huge fan of the movie and thus not enthused about the Bishoujo, it’s still neat to see the detail work put into some of her sculpt. Take the shoes, for instance: they’re actually modeled exactly on the ones Uma wears in the film, and they had to be approved by Asics. Apparently it took a ton of attempts until they were absolutely perfect. One of those things you never really think about when looking at a figure, right? Maybe this is why most anime girls just wear generic loafers or heels…

  • Kotobukiya had two Bishoujo-related announcements at Toy Fair: the art for Katana and the full reveal of Kamala. But given at this is a US-centric event, they had a TON more out and about, though funnily enough most of them were from non- comic franchises. It’s amazing how big the line has grown since it started with just Marvel girls! It was mostly movie Bishes on display: Chucky (who might be my all-time fave), Edward Scissorhands, and The Bride. Then there were some video game girls, like Rainbow Mika and Ibuki. We also know that there will be a new Chun-Li, though the sign for her was not out.

  • Kotobukiya is so unpredictable with their Bishoujo announcements! We always know that big events in both the US & Japan will have a few, but they tend to spring totally finished figures on us out of nowhere. Like today, when we’re getting the fully sculpted and painted Kill Bill Bishoujo! Her art was over a year ago, so perhaps it’s not so surprising that we’re getting it before 2016 is over. I was really sold by the art, but I’m not sure how I feel about the finished version. I feel like the face is missing the angst and attitude you expect from the Bride. It’s a little too placid for my taste, though I do think the pose & outfit came out looking very on-model and happily not overly sexed up. [via Kotobukiya’s Facebook]

  • It’s only been a short while since Kotobukiya showed off the painted Bishoujo Chucky sculpt, but apparently it’s already time for Tiffany to make an appearance! This is a very fast turnaround on both of them, given that the art was unveiled last February. We don’t have any full images of her, just this atmospheric shot of the devilish duo. They both look amazing, and I had pretty high expectations for Tiffany given that it’s the same sculptor as Chucky. I bet they’ll look perfect together out in display! [UPDATE] Full pictures are in the gallery! She’s also up for pre-order. [via Kotobukiya’s Facebook]

  • We have seen a lot from Kotobukiya this year at NYCC. Everything from their panel announcements, Squirrel Girl, Harley Quinn ArtFX+, and the Chucky Bishoujo to their DC, Marvel, Star Wars, and anime figures. And we still have a few behind the glass galleries to come! But for now, we’ve got an overview of everything else they had out on display. Like their Edward Scissorhands Bishoujo (one of my all-time faves from the line), their Clash of Clans figures, Sniper Wold and Lucky Chloe, and the painted Rainbow Mika picture.

  • We’ve brought you quite a bit from Kotobukiya’s NYCC panel so far: Ms. Marvel Bishoujo, Katana Bishoujo, DC tv shows, Spike, Star Wars, Marvel, and DC. But there are always some assorted odds and ends left over! They had information about a handful of their anime and game figures. None of it was that new, but we did get confirmation that the Street Fighter Bishoujo line would be continuing! They didn’t have a reveal here, but we were assured that Rainbow Mika is not the last one we’ll see. Along with that, we found out that the Horror Bishoujo line is also continuing! Again, no actual announcement, but they said there were “several interesting licenses” they were discussing. Which hopefully means not just one more Horror Bish, but a ton of them!

  • Bishoujo Edward Scissorhands has been a wild ride. I went from ‘what the hell‘ to ‘oh, that looks okay‘ to ‘holy shit so beautiful and I need it.’ If you told me a year ago that I’d be lusting after a goth-tastic girl version of Edward Scissorhands I would have called you crazy. But hey, we all make mistakes. Edward (Edwina?)’s outfit is basically the clothing my true self wants to wear all the time. The belts, the fluffy but torn skirt, the amazing boots and thigh-high stockings. Fabulous! And since this is the Bishoujo line, she’s got a killer butt. They sure do know what the people want. • I’ve been cautiously optimistic for Kotobukiya’s Edward Scissorhands Horror Bishoujo since the art was first revealed. While it seems totally wacky, moreso even than Freddy & Jason, the art was just really cool and interesting-looking. Plus, we don’t really have any gloomy goth Bishoujos (or figures in general let’s be honest) so I was anticipating a real change of pace for the line. Well, she’s fully sculpted and painted, and I am totally blown away. I mean, the detail level is just… woah. Look at how beautiful and moody her face is! All those belts and buckles! This is definitely one of the best Bishoujos we’ve ever seen, which I never would have expected at that initial reveal. And let’s all take a moment to appreciate that her name was not gender-swapped, so there’s no “Edwina Scissorhands.” I would like a few more scars, though. [via Kotobukiya’s Facebook]

  • We already saw Kotobukiya’s two pieces of Bishoujo news at Toy Fair (the art for Wonder Girl and Thor & Loki), but of course there was lots more–including the newly painted Harley Quinn v2 and Spider Gwen. And my waifu Lucky Chloe. Perhaps most importantly, we got some interesting info about Bishoujo Chucky. A few people thought she was a bit too cutesy for a horror Bish, but never fear! She will come with a second face that’s all scarred/messed up like the real Chucky.

  • We’ve had a lot of Bishoujo announcements today, but this is defintiely the strangest. Stranger than girl Loki & Thor, for sure. Actually given how ~edgy~ and ~sexy~ Tarantino makes The Bride, maybe not that surprising. But I sure didn’t expect it. That’s right, we’re getting a Kill Bill Bishoujo! With… with a zipped up top? Is such a thing even possible for Shunya to draw?? [via Shunya Yamashita, thanks to Stuart Campbell for the heads up!]
