Muv-Luv Archive

  • FREEing seems to only make 3 things: huge bunny girls, tiny swimsuit girls, and medium-sized yukata girls. And sometimes boys in various sizes (though, so far, never a bunny one!). This year, yeah, that’s all they had. Lots ‘o bunnies, swimsuits, and yukatas. For some characters, like Rem & Ram, you get both mega bunny size AND mini swimsuit size! We’ve got some bunny-sized Muv-Luv girls (Yui Takamura, Ilfriede von Feulner), Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o! 2 bunnies (Aqua & Megumin), Highschool DxD swimsuit girls (Rias & Akeno) and the surprising addition of Shinji & Kaworu in yukatas. As for announcements, we have 2 Dead or Alive bunnies (Marie Rose, Honoka), 2 Girls und Panzer bunnies (Yukari & Kay), and Kaito. Man, I love how popular Marie Rose suddenly is! [UPDATE] FREEIng is doing another tan waifu, aka Thailand Racing Miku 2016! SO CUTE [UPDATE 2] Added some stragglers to the gallery [via AmiAmi’s Twitter]

  • Kotobukiya usually doesn’t have many anime-related figures at US conventions, so it was a nice surprise to see quite a few of them out at their booth at Toy Fair this year! Of course there is nothing new really, though there’s many we haven’t seen in person (like the unpainted sculpts for Olivia and Seraphim Sakuya, both of whom are HUGE and so pretty in person!). Of course there were a ton of ArtFX J boys, Shining World figures, some sneaky Metal Gear model kits, and the lovely Yui from Muv-Luv. Check them all out and more in the gallery!

  • We’ve already shown you a few of the more memorable pieces at Good Smile Company’s booth: Belldandy & Holly Bell, the Attack On Titan goods, 7th Dragon Miku, Bayonetta, and Nyaruko. But of course there are more than just a few figures in a booth as big as Good Smile’s! They had lots of Madoka merchandise as you’d expect, in fact it was almost their whole lineup! Nendoroids and scaled figures a plenty. In fact there were tons of Nendoroids from a lot of different shows and series as well as figmas and scaled figures. We’ve got Vocaloids, Samus,  Dangan Ronpa, and a few of their past exclusives. Check them all out in the gallery!

  • By now, everyone knows that I’m crazy for the Muv-Luv girls. I’m not even really sure why since I’ve neither played the games they’re in or seen the show, but I find something about the design aesthetic very pleasing. And not just the plugsuits: I’ll buy pretty much any figure of the trio from Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse! But of course their suits are the star of the show, so fans (and, you know, not-really-fans-but-kind-of-fans like myself) got pretty frustrated that we went so long without and cool figures of them. Thankfully Kotobukiya answered our prayers and delivered the trio in their suits. We reviewed Cryska a while back and since doing things in order is no fun at all we’ll be taking a step back today to admire the first and arguably most popular of the lineup (and also, curiously, the only one actually standing up): Yui Takamura. So hit the jump and let’s go fight some aliens!

  • Kotobukiya’s Muv-Luv line has really been on a roll recently. It started a while ago with a lovely kimono version of Yui Takamura, but kind of fizzled out after that. Most people were sure she was a one-off type of figure, and certainly not part of a line. Well, they were kind of right–no kimono Muv-Luv girls followed, but we got something much better–plugsuits! So far we’ve had the full trio from Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse—Yui, Cryska (review), and Inia–and they’re now moving on to its earlier incarnation, Muv-Luv Alternative. We’ve already seen Meiya, and now it’s time for the Sumika that popped up at Wonder Festival! She’s pretty much the opposite of Meiya–warm colors, soft lines, cheerful face, and I’m totally in love! Orders will open soon, and I can only imagine that a proper, not-bunny suit version of Kasumi will follow. [via Koto’s RED☆STAR Blog]

  • If you follow us on Twitter, you might have noticed that we’ve been teasing an upcoming contest! We have been meaning to get some up and running for a while, but due to time and staff constraints it’s been a work in progress. Trust me, running a site with two people is a lot harder than we originally assumed it would be. But finally, our first official contest is here! And if just so happens that it’s our second birthday, so we decided to kick things off with a bang. Last year you could contribute to the site, but this time we’re giving back–and giving something big. That’s right, no prize figures or blind boxes here. We’re giving away a full scale figure of Kotobukiya’s Cryska Barchenowa Plugsuit Edition, who we recently reviewed! And it is not the one we took out and rolled around in the grass. Oh no, this is a pristine, shiny, not even opened Cryska. And there are 3 different ways to win her! The first is easy–just leave a comment on this post telling us what your favorite figure is, and why! We’ll be revealing the other 2 ways to get entries in the contest next week, once the Wonder Festival madness has died down. [UPDATE] Want a second contest entry? Then follow us on Twitter and retweet this tweet (you must do both to qualify!)! Yes, it’s that simple! And we are still accepting comment entries as well, so don’t worry if this is your first time seeing this post! [UPDATE 2] Need another entry? Simply like us on Facebook and comment on this post following the instructions! We are also accepting entries for methods 1 and 2, but the winner will be selected at the end of the week. Good luck, everyone! [FINAL UPDATE] Congratulations to our winner, Stefanie Brignac! Cryska will be on her way to you in the very near future! [Note: This contest is open to all countries! Be sure to use your real email when you comment, as that is what we’ll be contacting the winner through. I’d also like to note that originally I hoped to respond to everyone’s comments, but you guys have overwhelmed us! Suffice to say, we totally love you all!]

  • Kotobukiya stuffed us full of so many teasers very few of the figures in this post are going to come as a surprise. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t awesome! Especially Dark Angel Olivia, uhnf. We’ve also got Colette Brunel, Shiki Ryougi, Sumika Kagami, the bunny version of Kasumi Yashiro and Tomo Asama. We’ve shown you the rest already: their ArtFX J line, the Tony Taka reveals, and the Bakemonogatari girls. Of course we have some announcements! It seems they have (at least for the moment) stopped their Angelic Island line and are moving on to the hot new idol property, Love Live! School Idol Project. They’ll be doing swimsuit figures of Umi Sonada, Kotori Minami and Honoka Kousaka who are all pretty cute. Now… for the big announcement: ArtFX J Attack on Titan! Yes, that means BOYS BOYS BOYS YEAAH. Eren Jaegar and Levi, to be more specific. That should help balance out all the Mikasa merch! [via AmiAmi’s Facebook]

  • Ah, more teasers. Kotobukiya doesn’t show off as much as some companies, but we’re still getting a pretty generous peek! We’ll start with the boys (since there are a lot of them!). We’ve got three from Prince of Tennis: Kunimitsu Tezuka, who was announced a while back, is now sculpted and we are getting a full shot of him along with two announcements. He’ll be joined by Kuranosuke Shiraishi and Seiichi Yukimura. It also looks like we’ll be getting a double dose of Marik Ishtar: his figure is painted, but there is also an unpainted sculpt… of him totally topless! Fanservice for the ladies~ Of course there are some female figures as well! The Tomo Asama they announced ages ago seems to be sculpted, and the Kasumi Yashiro they announced a few days ago is already painted. Fast turnaround! We’ve also got two brand new girls: a second Hitagi Senjougahara and Sumika Kagami from Muv-Luv. [via es_series, tenipuri & RED☆STAR Blog]

  • Whoo, scans. Pardon my lack of enthusiasm, but the week leading up to Wonder Festival always has me dreading scans. It means extra features (garage kit roundup and wishlist) on top of, well, the event coverage and we have three reviews to work on this week! So when I remembered scans were tonight I nearly cried. For real, ask Stephen. So, let’s just dive right in. Wow, such figures! So PVC! Wowwwww! Maybe I’ll just do every post in Shibe…

  • For some reason, I am totally enamored with the Muv-Luv girls. It’s probably a combination of the cool color schemes, sleek plugsuits and pretty hair. So far they have taken on 4 of the girls from the franchise: Yui, who came out earlier this year, Cryska (who we are obviously taking a look at today!), Inia, who will be out at the end of summer, and Meiya, who is actually from a different Muv-Luv anime than the trio. Of the original threesome I think Cryska is my favorite, despite one big issue I have with her character design. What could that be, you ask? Well let’s hit the jump and dive on in!
