Muv-Luv Alternative Archive

  • Kotobukiya had a lot going on at Wonder Festival, and as we all know the pictures that come out the fastest during an event usually aren’t the best. Because we want to get everything up in a timely fashion the sacrifice for speed over quality is just part of the news game, but it’s nice to have a closer, detailed look at the figures once the dust has settled! We’ve got all of Koto’s Shining World/Tony Taka girls in the gallery (of course), along with a bevel of swimsuit-clad beauties and, of course, the amazing Black Butler duo. So check them out after the jump! [via Akibahobby]

  • Kotobukiya’s teasers pretty much gave away all that we’d be seeing at Wonder Festival, but… hey, we still like to see the whole figure! As we suspected there are a whole lot of Tony Taka girls. Daisy’s sister is here, and looking so lovely! Then there’s Roselinde, who looks great in all that armor. The mystery winged figure is a SECOND winged version of Sakuya. But this time it’s back to the name Maxima. That counts as different, right? And, of course, Xiao-Mei and her cat form Rinrin! Then we have a new set of Muv-Luv Alternative girls: Katia Waldheim, Irisdena Bernhard, and Lyz Hohenstein in swimsuits. There is also a teaser for another Shingeki no Bahamut figure! YES! But wait, there’s more. Homura in a kimono… thing, and swimsuit Saber, and another swimsuit figure of… Amane Suou from Grisaia no Kajitsu -LE FRUIT DE LA GRISAIA-. Phew. Oh, and also pink Chun-Li. • Kotobukiya’s Muv-Luv line has really been on a roll recently. It started a while ago with a lovely kimono version of Yui Takamura, but kind of fizzled out after that. Most people were sure she was a one-off type of figure, and certainly not part of a line. Well, they were kind of right–no kimono Muv-Luv girls followed, but we got something much better–plugsuits! So far we’ve had the full trio from Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse—Yui, Cryska (review), and Inia–and they’re now moving on to its earlier incarnation, Muv-Luv Alternative. We’ve already seen Meiya, and now it’s time for the Sumika that popped up at Wonder Festival! She’s pretty much the opposite of Meiya–warm colors, soft lines, cheerful face, and I’m totally in love! Orders will open soon, and I can only imagine that a proper, not-bunny suit version of Kasumi will follow. [via Koto’s RED☆STAR Blog]

Kotobukiya’s Sumika Kagami Is As Pretty As Her Predecessors

  • Kotobukiya stuffed us full of so many teasers very few of the figures in this post are going to come as a surprise. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t awesome! Especially Dark Angel Olivia, uhnf. We’ve also got Colette Brunel, Shiki Ryougi, Sumika Kagami, the bunny version of Kasumi Yashiro and Tomo Asama. We’ve shown you the rest already: their ArtFX J line, the Tony Taka reveals, and the Bakemonogatari girls. Of course we have some announcements! It seems they have (at least for the moment) stopped their Angelic Island line and are moving on to the hot new idol property, Love Live! School Idol Project. They’ll be doing swimsuit figures of Umi Sonada, Kotori Minami and Honoka Kousaka who are all pretty cute. Now… for the big announcement: ArtFX J Attack on Titan! Yes, that means BOYS BOYS BOYS YEAAH. Eren Jaegar and Levi, to be more specific. That should help balance out all the Mikasa merch! [via AmiAmi’s Facebook]

  • Ah, more teasers. Kotobukiya doesn’t show off as much as some companies, but we’re still getting a pretty generous peek! We’ll start with the boys (since there are a lot of them!). We’ve got three from Prince of Tennis: Kunimitsu Tezuka, who was announced a while back, is now sculpted and we are getting a full shot of him along with two announcements. He’ll be joined by Kuranosuke Shiraishi and Seiichi Yukimura. It also looks like we’ll be getting a double dose of Marik Ishtar: his figure is painted, but there is also an unpainted sculpt… of him totally topless! Fanservice for the ladies~ Of course there are some female figures as well! The Tomo Asama they announced ages ago seems to be sculpted, and the Kasumi Yashiro they announced a few days ago is already painted. Fast turnaround! We’ve also got two brand new girls: a second Hitagi Senjougahara and Sumika Kagami from Muv-Luv. [via es_series, tenipuri & RED☆STAR Blog]

  • Whoo, scans. Pardon my lack of enthusiasm, but the week leading up to Wonder Festival always has me dreading scans. It means extra features (garage kit roundup and wishlist) on top of, well, the event coverage and we have three reviews to work on this week! So when I remembered scans were tonight I nearly cried. For real, ask Stephen. So, let’s just dive right in. Wow, such figures! So PVC! Wowwwww! Maybe I’ll just do every post in Shibe…

  • It’s certainly no secret that I love the ladies of the Muv-Luv franchise, especially when they are in the hands of Kotobukiya or AlphaMax. Shiny plugsuits, great hair, and purple and blue themed color schemes, what’s not to love? Since I tend to prefer the ladies of Total Eclipse, I was surprised to find myself loving Koto’s Meiya Mitsurugi more than any other Muv-Luv figure. Mostly because of her “I am going to kill you and I am going to enjoy it” look. I mean, this is one badass lady! They had her on display in their Akiba showroom recently, so we are getting a closer look at this ice-cold beauty. Her pose is certainly interesting, and provides some unique viewing angles. I’m kind of wondering how she is going to fit in with Yui, Cryska, and Inia–I mean, she wasn’t intended for display with them or anything, but it would seem mean to exclude her! Unless, of course, they are planning on doing another few to go along with Meiya… [via moeyo]

  • Kotobukiya has been on a bit of a roll recently when it comes to the girls of Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse: they made Yui, Cryska and Inia in their plugsuits, and fans of course ate it up because they look amazing! And finally, after years of swimsuits and loungewear we got the trio in their actual uniforms. But as we found out at Wonder Festival, they wouldn’t be the last Muv-Luv figures Kotobukiya would be working on: in fact they’re going back to the original Muv-Luv Alternative with Meiya Mitsurugi. She’s painted now and if looks could kill hers certainly would: literally. She looks stunning, and after I felt kind of meh bout Inia (my favorite of the girls!) I am totally back on board. In fact… I think I like Meiya the most out of the four we’ve seen so far! And yes I did say so far, because I am sure we’ll see Sumika and Kasumi. But back to Meiya! She is 1/7 scale and will retail for ¥9,200 with an October release. Fall, come faster! [via Kotobukiya]
