  • Kotobukiya usually doesn’t have many anime-related figures at US conventions, so it was a nice surprise to see quite a few of them out at their booth at Toy Fair this year! Of course there is nothing new really, though there’s many we haven’t seen in person (like the unpainted sculpts for Olivia and Seraphim Sakuya, both of whom are HUGE and so pretty in person!). Of course there were a ton of ArtFX J boys, Shining World figures, some sneaky Metal Gear model kits, and the lovely Yui from Muv-Luv. Check them all out and more in the gallery!

  • We’ve already shown you a few of the more memorable pieces at Good Smile Company’s booth: Belldandy & Holly Bell, the Attack On Titan goods, 7th Dragon Miku, Bayonetta, and Nyaruko. But of course there are more than just a few figures in a booth as big as Good Smile’s! They had lots of Madoka merchandise as you’d expect, in fact it was almost their whole lineup! Nendoroids and scaled figures a plenty. In fact there were tons of Nendoroids from a lot of different shows and series as well as figmas and scaled figures. We’ve got Vocaloids, Samus,  Dangan Ronpa, and a few of their past exclusives. Check them all out in the gallery!

  • By now, everyone knows that I’m crazy for the Muv-Luv girls. I’m not even really sure why since I’ve neither played the games they’re in or seen the show, but I find something about the design aesthetic very pleasing. And not just the plugsuits: I’ll buy pretty much any figure of the trio from Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse! But of course their suits are the star of the show, so fans (and, you know, not-really-fans-but-kind-of-fans like myself) got pretty frustrated that we went so long without and cool figures of them. Thankfully Kotobukiya answered our prayers and delivered the trio in their suits. We reviewed Cryska a while back and since doing things in order is no fun at all we’ll be taking a step back today to admire the first and arguably most popular of the lineup (and also, curiously, the only one actually standing up): Yui Takamura. So hit the jump and let’s go fight some aliens!

  • For some reason, I am totally enamored with the Muv-Luv girls. It’s probably a combination of the cool color schemes, sleek plugsuits and pretty hair. So far they have taken on 4 of the girls from the franchise: Yui, who came out earlier this year, Cryska (who we are obviously taking a look at today!), Inia, who will be out at the end of summer, and Meiya, who is actually from a different Muv-Luv anime than the trio. Of the original threesome I think Cryska is my favorite, despite one big issue I have with her character design. What could that be, you ask? Well let’s hit the jump and dive on in!

  • Yes, cuter than Append Rin & Len, or even Cheerful Saber & Rin! Maybe it’s my weakness for the Muv-Luv girls talking, but I am smitten by this newest duo. It’s probably also the fact that unlike a lot of recent Nendoroids (and figmas) these ladies come with a lot of goodies: but we’ll get to that in a second! First, let’s tlak about how awesome they look. From the soft gradient in their purple hair to the shiny plugsuits, they’ve done a fantastic job recreating their anime appearance. Now for the goodies! Both come with cockpits and of course some creepy/cute Beta pals, much like the first Muv-Luv Nendoroid Yui Takamura. They’re so strange looking! Inia will also come with her teddy bear, and Cryska has a sniper rifle. As for faces they actually only have two, but they’re a doozy: there’s the “standard” ones and then… insane faces! Yes, these are on par with “swan song” and the amazing Hibiki face. But as you may recall, Yui had a pretty scary/amazing bloody face as well, so it’s no surprise this duo has creepy faces as well! They’ll be up for order on the 16th. [via Mikatan]

  • It’s no secret that I have been head over heels in love with Kotobukiya’s Muv-Luv line, which so far has included Yui Takamura and Cryska Barchenowa. Both are just…. uhnf, so beautiful! At Wonder Festival they finally showed off the third girl in the set, Inia, who also happens to be my favorite of the trio. I mean, come on, she’s just so damn cute. Funnily enough in terms of pose and sculpting Inia is my least favorite of the three. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a beautiful figure and I am really looking forward to ordering her, but Yui and Cryska come out a little bit ahead on this one. However, I prefer them as a set over individually: the picture of all 3 together is just perfection. Come on, pre-orders, open faster! [via Kotobukiya’s Blog]

  • So we all know Hobby Japan’s newest exclusive, Yui Takamura, is cute, but is she worth the exclusive status? I mean if she was Kotobukiya or Max Factory I think many people would have picked her up in an instant, but not only does she cost more she is made by Amakuni, HJ’s manufacturing company who, while not terrible, certainly doesn’t rank among the best. Let’s be honest: as cute as she is, she’s not “oh my goodness how beautiful let me spend $150 on you!” There are some weird features to her sculpt, like that one toe sticking out (which, for some reason, really bugs me). As time goes on I grow less and less enamored with her, though I still do love her face! But I have a feeling this will be one of those exclusives you can find for close to retail pre-owned, I think I’ll be sitting on the sidelines until then! [via Akibahobby]

  • Hobby Japan, everyone’s purveyor of awesome but exclusive figures! Since they make so few a year through their manufacturing company Amakuni, it’s no surprise that only two new ladies were on hand, along with their lovely Yui Takamura. The first is that Soniko that we heard about, who looks cute but not like what I expected. Something is off about her bust, it looks too bulky and not at all like the illustration! Then we have the majestic girl in the header, the Dark General from Shingeki no Bahamut. Anyone want to place bets on how much she will cost? Not like it matters, because I must have her no matter what! As pretty as she is I’m disappointed in the lack of 7 Sins figures, but maybe that has something to do with Asmodeus’ massive delay… [via Animate]

  • Kotobukiya usually has one of the biggest booths at any event, so you can expect a lot of figures! And indeed, we have a veritable ton. Let’s start with the teasers: they’re all here (of course)! Kobato, Ayase, Tsukiko Tsutsukakushi, Maou, and Meiya Mitsurugi, Panis, and Yukiho (along with a painted Hibiki). But of course it wasn’t all given away before. As far as new figures go, we’ve got… Gumi! Yes, the Vocaloid. Surprising, I know, but she looks great! There’s also their Horizon figure of Honda that we found out about so long ago, brought back to live, as well as art for Tomo. There’s also the last of the Muv-Luv Total Eclipse girls, Inia, looking as divine as you’d expect. Oh, and Cu-Poche Mami! Phew, that’s a lot. But stay tuned… we have one more piece of Koto news for you coming up! [via AmiAmi’s Facebook]
