Muv-Luv Archive

  • It’s certainly no secret that I love the ladies of the Muv-Luv franchise, especially when they are in the hands of Kotobukiya or AlphaMax. Shiny plugsuits, great hair, and purple and blue themed color schemes, what’s not to love? Since I tend to prefer the ladies of Total Eclipse, I was surprised to find myself loving Koto’s Meiya Mitsurugi more than any other Muv-Luv figure. Mostly because of her “I am going to kill you and I am going to enjoy it” look. I mean, this is one badass lady! They had her on display in their Akiba showroom recently, so we are getting a closer look at this ice-cold beauty. Her pose is certainly interesting, and provides some unique viewing angles. I’m kind of wondering how she is going to fit in with Yui, Cryska, and Inia–I mean, she wasn’t intended for display with them or anything, but it would seem mean to exclude her! Unless, of course, they are planning on doing another few to go along with Meiya… [via moeyo]

  • Kotobukiya has been on a bit of a roll recently when it comes to the girls of Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse: they made Yui, Cryska and Inia in their plugsuits, and fans of course ate it up because they look amazing! And finally, after years of swimsuits and loungewear we got the trio in their actual uniforms. But as we found out at Wonder Festival, they wouldn’t be the last Muv-Luv figures Kotobukiya would be working on: in fact they’re going back to the original Muv-Luv Alternative with Meiya Mitsurugi. She’s painted now and if looks could kill hers certainly would: literally. She looks stunning, and after I felt kind of meh bout Inia (my favorite of the girls!) I am totally back on board. In fact… I think I like Meiya the most out of the four we’ve seen so far! And yes I did say so far, because I am sure we’ll see Sumika and Kasumi. But back to Meiya! She is 1/7 scale and will retail for ¥9,200 with an October release. Fall, come faster! [via Kotobukiya]

  • Yes, cuter than Append Rin & Len, or even Cheerful Saber & Rin! Maybe it’s my weakness for the Muv-Luv girls talking, but I am smitten by this newest duo. It’s probably also the fact that unlike a lot of recent Nendoroids (and figmas) these ladies come with a lot of goodies: but we’ll get to that in a second! First, let’s tlak about how awesome they look. From the soft gradient in their purple hair to the shiny plugsuits, they’ve done a fantastic job recreating their anime appearance. Now for the goodies! Both come with cockpits and of course some creepy/cute Beta pals, much like the first Muv-Luv Nendoroid Yui Takamura. They’re so strange looking! Inia will also come with her teddy bear, and Cryska has a sniper rifle. As for faces they actually only have two, but they’re a doozy: there’s the “standard” ones and then… insane faces! Yes, these are on par with “swan song” and the amazing Hibiki face. But as you may recall, Yui had a pretty scary/amazing bloody face as well, so it’s no surprise this duo has creepy faces as well! They’ll be up for order on the 16th. [via Mikatan]

  • There are a massive amount of figure-related events in Japan. Usually we cover the big ones that involve PVC: Wonder Festival, Comiket, MegaHobby, Tamashii Nations, et cetera. But of course the garage kit community probably puts out ten times as much as the PVC world, they are just a lot harder to get! The most recent gk event will be Treasure Festa in Ariake 9, which takes place on May 5th–yes, only a few days away! So today we’re bringing you a roundup of some of the best kits that will be at the event, complete with the circle’s name in case you are lucky enough to be at the event and have the money and speed to snag one. My favorites are the adorable Yagyu from Senran Kagura and Atelier Hiro’s graceful Miku, but there’s a whole lot more–even a Kaito and an awesome Shin Megami kit with both Jack Frost and Pyro Jack! Check them all out after the jump. [via fg-site, Moonlighter, Mr. Surprise, T’s System, Pink Panders, Glemo, ooxoo]

  • It’s no secret that I have been head over heels in love with Kotobukiya’s Muv-Luv line, which so far has included Yui Takamura and Cryska Barchenowa. Both are just…. uhnf, so beautiful! At Wonder Festival they finally showed off the third girl in the set, Inia, who also happens to be my favorite of the trio. I mean, come on, she’s just so damn cute. Funnily enough in terms of pose and sculpting Inia is my least favorite of the three. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a beautiful figure and I am really looking forward to ordering her, but Yui and Cryska come out a little bit ahead on this one. However, I prefer them as a set over individually: the picture of all 3 together is just perfection. Come on, pre-orders, open faster! [via Kotobukiya’s Blog]

  • So we all know Hobby Japan’s newest exclusive, Yui Takamura, is cute, but is she worth the exclusive status? I mean if she was Kotobukiya or Max Factory I think many people would have picked her up in an instant, but not only does she cost more she is made by Amakuni, HJ’s manufacturing company who, while not terrible, certainly doesn’t rank among the best. Let’s be honest: as cute as she is, she’s not “oh my goodness how beautiful let me spend $150 on you!” There are some weird features to her sculpt, like that one toe sticking out (which, for some reason, really bugs me). As time goes on I grow less and less enamored with her, though I still do love her face! But I have a feeling this will be one of those exclusives you can find for close to retail pre-owned, I think I’ll be sitting on the sidelines until then! [via Akibahobby]

  • I usually don’t do more than one gallery per a figure. If we posted every color sample that came up, our site would be flooded with figures we’ve all seen a dozen times over! But sometimes a gallery pops up that we just can’t resist. Sure, we already did an extra gallery for Cryska Barchenowa along with her promotional shots, but I’m so enamored with this figure that I just can’t get enough! Everything about this piece is stunning. The face, the coloring, the pose, the sculpt. I know that Kotobukiya is not considered a top-tier manufacturer (mostly because of past work which seems counterproductive to me) but this could seriously be a figure from Max Factory or Alter. It’s just perfection! Kotobukiya’s entire Muv-Luv line has been fantastic so far, and I really can’t wait for the two new sculpts they showed off at Wonder Festival. [via Danny Choo]

  • Hobby Japan, everyone’s purveyor of awesome but exclusive figures! Since they make so few a year through their manufacturing company Amakuni, it’s no surprise that only two new ladies were on hand, along with their lovely Yui Takamura. The first is that Soniko that we heard about, who looks cute but not like what I expected. Something is off about her bust, it looks too bulky and not at all like the illustration! Then we have the majestic girl in the header, the Dark General from Shingeki no Bahamut. Anyone want to place bets on how much she will cost? Not like it matters, because I must have her no matter what! As pretty as she is I’m disappointed in the lack of 7 Sins figures, but maybe that has something to do with Asmodeus’ massive delay… [via Animate]

  • Kotobukiya usually has one of the biggest booths at any event, so you can expect a lot of figures! And indeed, we have a veritable ton. Let’s start with the teasers: they’re all here (of course)! Kobato, Ayase, Tsukiko Tsutsukakushi, Maou, and Meiya Mitsurugi, Panis, and Yukiho (along with a painted Hibiki). But of course it wasn’t all given away before. As far as new figures go, we’ve got… Gumi! Yes, the Vocaloid. Surprising, I know, but she looks great! There’s also their Horizon figure of Honda that we found out about so long ago, brought back to live, as well as art for Tomo. There’s also the last of the Muv-Luv Total Eclipse girls, Inia, looking as divine as you’d expect. Oh, and Cu-Poche Mami! Phew, that’s a lot. But stay tuned… we have one more piece of Koto news for you coming up! [via AmiAmi’s Facebook]
