Nanoha Archive

  • So far, Alter’s Summer Holiday line, featuring the girls of Nanoha, has been pretty freaking awesome. Their Nanoha was perfection, and while Fate was not quite as popular I liked her even more than her brunette counterpart. So of course I was excited when they announced Hayate would be joining the lineup! And, as you would expect, she is gorgeous: a wonderful & realistic body sculpt, lovely detailing given her simple outfit, and a vibrant paintjob. And there’s even a castoff feature and a mini Reinforce II. But unlike the first two, she just isn’t calling my name! I wonder if I am just over swimsuit figures? She’ll go up on March 5th and is slated for a Summer release. [via Alter’s Blog]

But of course there are more than just a few figures in a booth as big as Good Smile’s! They had lots of Madoka merchandise as you’d expect, in fact it was almost their whole lineup! Nendoroids and scaled figures a plenty. In fact there were tons of Nendoroids from a lot of different shows and series as well as figmas and scaled figures. We’ve got Vocaloids, Samus,  Dangan Ronpa, and a few of their past exclusives. Check them all out in the gallery!

  • Recently, the deadly duo of Max Factory and Good Smile Company have been milking the Nanoha franchise to death. Especially the damn figmas: we’ve had two Nanohas and three Fates in the span of a year. What the heck! But at WonFest they previewed (finally) a figma of a character that isn’t Fate or Nanoha: Hayate Yagami, who is generally the only other Nanoha girl to get attention despite the huge cast. And, gasp, this figma is actually new and not just a redone version of something we’ve seen a million times! Hayate has one figma, but it’s of her grown up form: this is loli Hayate, complete with differently colored hair even (though fo course she’ll have her standard brown too). Shea lso comes with 3 faces (happy, angry, closed-eyed), her staff and book, and her jacket is removable. She’ll retail for ¥3,800 with a July release and orders open tonight! [via the figma blog]

  • Well, we already showed you a big group of new figmas via the Avengers and Spider-Man, but that’s not all there was on hand. Like Nendoroids, there were a metric ton of figmas at WonFest as well. First up, figma 200 was finally unveiled as a Miku version 2.0. Keeping in the Vocaloid vein we also finally got a figma of Kaito, and he looks quite nice. Keeping with the standards there’s a new Strength, a new Nanoha and Fate with a Hayate to go with them, a casual clothes Kyoko, and another version of Guts from Berserk. Hidamari Sketch x Hanikamu received three new figmas in Michiko, Sae, and Hiro all of which are quite cute. Also coming in at three figmas is Vividred Operation with two versions of Isshiki Akane (one casual, one battle), and a figma of Kuroki Rei as well. From Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon is a pretty awesome figma of Honda Futayo, and rounding out the girls are Amy from Gargantia and a new Idolm@ster line. Rounding out the guys and robots are Yuichi Shima, whom I’m unfamiliar with, a Zombie from Dawn of the Dead, Guyver, El Urakan, Cobra the Space Pirate, Bruce Lee, and last, but certainly not least, Marth from Fire Emblem. I’m glad to see more Nintendo figmas and I think Marth is the right direction to go in for the next release and I can’t wait to see how he comes out. Also, Bruce Lee, while completely random, is also looking completely awesome and the amount of detail on the Guyver sculpt is simply stunning. Now that you know who they all are, head on over to the gallery and check them all out! There’s quite a lot! [via Good Smile Company’s Wonderful Hobby Life For You page and syukyu2ka’s Twitter]

  • It’s the last week before Wonder Festival, which means it’s the last chance companies have to put revealed figures up for order. This is actually quite important, since after all the new stuff has been shown off people tend to forget about all the remaining bits and pieces. So there’s a big rush this week to get stuff up for order and done with, which means lots and lots of figures! We’ve got 4 releases from Good Smile Company, 4 from Wave, 3 from Max Factory, as well as a bunch of companies we don’t usually see coming out of the woodwork as well. So hit the jump to check them all out!

  • As much as I love figures, there’s one thing that perpetually irks me: how unrealistically women can be portrayed. Now yes, it’s a medium built on fantasy, but very often the ideal presented is laughable instead of sexy. Rail-thin legs and arms, a perfectly flat stomach, and huge breasts. This is why I find characters like Soniko refreshing: a girl with hips? Sign me up! So when Alter announced that they were doing a production run of the gorgeous swimsuit sculpt of Nanoha, I was overjoyed. She looks so natural and sexy that it’s quite refreshing. Her hips are thick, her waist isn’t too small, she’s definitely got a little bit of a belly, and her breasts fall in a ridiculously natural way for a figure. And to me, this is way sexier than, say, Alter’s Selvaria–who falls into the skinny hips-giant boobs category. I’ve extolled my love for Selvaria’s sculptor, but in terms of realism and how sexy the figure is, Nanoha definitely wins! At 1/7 scale she’s going to be a big figure–Alter’s 1/7 Nanoha line is BIG, closer to 1/6, and with her elaborate base I feel like this girl is going to be quite the space-hog. She goes up for order on the 7th (along with the Louise re-release) and I’m guessing her release date will be April or May. The art she’s from (which you can see in the gallery) also has Fate and Vivio in it–I’d love a set of all 3 girls, so hopefully Alter delivers! [via Alter’s Blog]

  • This has been a very busy month in the PVC figure world. Earlier in the month we had the 26th Prize Fair, the Miyazawa Model Exhibition Fall 2011, and the Gundam Expo. This week we had some awesome magazine scans and of course MegaHobby Expo! MegaHobby might have been the biggest of them all, with tons of new figure news. There were more new announcements than I was expecting, and it looks like 2012 is even more crowded now in terms of releases! So hit the jump to check out a roundup of all of our coverage as well as a gallery of all the odds and ends that showed up.

  • It’s that time of the month once again! You know, before the scans came up I had a sinking feeling that they would be tonight. I mean, it’s better than them coming out tomorrow (which is MegaHobby Expo!) but with PVC news when it rains it pours. It’s never just one thing at a time, we get a veritable deluge of news! That’s not necessarily a bad thing–scans are like presents to open, and boy have we got some big news this time. Figures surfacing from the dead, MegaHouse making sexy boys from a huge license, adorable Nendos, sexy swimsuit ladies, and more. So hit the jump to check them all out!

  • Prize figures are a wonderful thing–cheap, well-made figures are always a bonus in my book, and Banpresto’s SQ and DX lines has some of the highest-quality prize figures around. For reference, they’re higher-quality than Banpresto’s regular prize figures (which are actually quite rare) and a bit under the higher-end Ichiban Kuji. The SQ line got 2 new additions: Fate & Nanoha from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. These were actually teased a long time ago, about 9 months to be exact! I’m a Fate fanatic and I love the pose they put her in, so I had to get her! And what’s Fate without her secret lesbian lover/best bud Nanoha? I find Nanoha less interesting than Fate, but I always tend to. Then we have a set of adorable festival K-On! figures. To be honest I dislike the show and a lot of the figures, but I love girls in festival-garb and it has Azusa! She’s pretty much the only K-On! girl I can stand, in fact I really like her, so I’m thrilled to see more figures of her. She comes with Yui who is in a pretty cute pose as well. There’s also a DX figure of Ika Musume in a swimsuit–so cute! All of these sets are going to be released in February, and are up at Otacute. The DX figures are $13.50 each while the Nanoha girls are a bit more pricey (but still dirt-cheap!) at $16.90. Prize figures tend to go quickly, so act fast if you want them! [Pre-order: Nanoha | Fate | Yui | Azusa | Ika Musume]
