  • After Kidrobot’s buyout by Neca, I think we were all a little curious about the direction they’d be moving in. I mean, Kidrobot has always been a niche company and now they’re owned by a merchandising juggernaut. We’ve already seen one of their new lines at Toy Fair, and a licensed one at that: the Adventure Time series. And from what we’ve seen at the event, they’re trying to strike a balance between old and new, original and licensed merchandise. For example, we have a Megaman figure and a line of Cartman blind boxes, but they’ve also announced a line of 3″ Trickys! It’s nice to see them using some of the other Dunny-family sculpts in this size, especially because it might mean an artist series in the future. For their 10-year anniversary, they’re also re-releasing the original three soild colorway Dunnys–yes, the super-ultra-rare ones! While all 3 colors (black, red, silver) are getting redone, we got word that silver will be the rarest of the trio. It’ll be interesting to see what the new management brings out for SDCC!

  • Well, this is both surprising and unsurprising all in one. It’s been known for a while know that Kidrobot hasn’t been doing so hot as they’ve had to close down quite a lot of their retail locations and have been having insane sales up to 80% off retail on their website, so it’s no surprise that something had to happen on their business end, but I don’t think anyone could have expected this. NECA has purchased Kidrobot and placed famed artist Frank Kozik as the new Creative Director in an attempt to bring the company back to being an artist focused entity. Personally, I have mixed feelings about this. It’s great to see Kidrobot back on its feet again especially under someone like Frank Kozik, but at the same time NECA isn’t exactly synonymous with quality, but rather affordability, which is about the exact opposite of the Kidrobot of old. It also remains to be seen if Kidrobot will actually stray away from their heavy licensed merchandise, especially with NECA at the helm, who exists to bring other people’s properties to life, but I have faith that it will. Now bring me back some interesting Dunny sets and I’ll be happy. [via Kidrobot’s Press Release, Frank Kozik’s Press Release, and NECA’s Press Release]

  • What’s this, Leah and Stephen getting a loot post done in a timely fashion? That’s right, we got our last November shipment yesterday and our loot post is all ready to go. Mostly thanks to Stephen having a new computer which has really streamlined the photo process. Anywho, November was a particularly packed month for figures. Seriously, almost as much as September & October together! This is mostly because after some Nendoroid- and figma-light months we ended up getting seemingly a year’s worth of both in one box. Oh AmiAmi, you are the best at box tetris! Hit the jump to check out everything we got.

  • Ever since the release of the first Portal, fans have been clamoring for a figure of the silent heroine Chell. Well, a over year after the release of Portal 2, it’s finally happening! NECA is taking her on in  7″ action figure, and for something of this size I think the detail is pretty decent. Not, you know, PVC good but for the US side of things her face is surprisingly accurate! I am surprised that it took this long though, especially after the success of their Portal Gun. She’s a “limited” edition of 15,000 pieces, aka she’ll be everywhere come her February 2013 release date. Chell comes with tons of articulation and her portal gun even lights up! I might need to get her to go with my light-up turret and Companion Square. [via NECA]

  • Everyone seems to be hopping on the Valve train recently (though my favorite piece remains the Companion Square, who you’ll be seeing more of on Plastikitty soon!). NECA showed off their awesome Portal Gun at Toy Fair, but since then they’ve cranked out a ton more, including (no surprise) several different variations of the Portal Gun. Now we’re getting a whole line of action figures to go along with them including a rainbow of Portal 2 turrets, Gordon Freeman from the Half-Life franchise, creepy monsters from Left 4 Dead, and of course Team Fortress characters as well. We’re even getting a plushy headcrab to terrify your friends and family with! Check them all out in the gallery.

  • There’s been a lot of buzz going around about NECA’s 1/1 scale Portal Gun replica. Orders went up a bit early on Japanese websites, leading to the belief that it wouldn’t be hitting US shelves. But NECA is a US company, so of course it’s getting a release over here! It should come out around April, and while no pre-orders are open yet they should be soon. We got to take a nice look at the piece at Toy Fair, complete with shots of its light-up features (it glows both blue AND orange!). Hit the jump to check it out!
