  • Code Geass is such a nostalgic series for me. I used to spend Saturday nights chowing down on Chinese food with a friend and watching episodes of it. It was at a time in my life that I’d pretty much fallen away from anime, so in a way it was my re-introduction to the genre. And a hella good one at that! Figure releases from the show have always been sporadic but at the same time it seems like there’s always at least one in the works, be it a planned re-release or fancy prize figures. This year it’s Kotobukiya’s Lelouch, based on his Code Black appearance. He was unpainted at Wonder Festival, but it’s been a few months since then and now he’s all finished and shiny!

  • I’ve never played Clash of Clans (god knows I have enough other games on my phone to keep me occupied until the end of time), but somehow I’ve acquired a soft spot for the franchise. Maybe it’s because my dad plays it nonstop (and my mom refers to it as “playing with his little men”), or maybe it’s the amazing ad campaign. Seriously, how great are their commercials? But however it happened, I’m always a little excited to see merchandise from it. And so far, there’s no doubt that Kotobukiya’s figures are the best out there. They looked good when we saw them at SDCC, but now they’re painted and of course look even better! They kept the simplistic, cartoony style without skimping too much on details like shading. The smug face of the Prince gets me every time I look at it.

  • Kotobukiya has brought us quite a few Deadpool figures in the past, but this is definitely the Deadpool to end all Deadpools. As the ‘Super’ in the title might have clued you into! As we saw at their panel, this figure comes with an insane amount of extras. From more weaponry than anyone needs to a fluffy red afro, he’s got it all. But even without all the extras, this is an impressive piece. The pose is super dynamic and the scaffolding base gives a great diorama. I can just picture how amazing this will look on display!

  • Oh figma Ludens, what a mystery you are. What is Kojima Productions up to? Is Ludens just a mascot, or will we see him in games? It’s probably going to be a long time before any of our questions are answered, so until then we can just admire all the pretty figures of him. Based on what we’ve seen at NYCC, I think it’s safe to say that figma sculpts are getting more and more intricate. Between Ludens, Link & Zelda, and ATLAS & P-body, it’s clear that the sculpts are raising the stakes in terms of complexity and accuracy.

  • There are a lot of villains in the DC-verse, but it seems like most of the popular ones are men. So it was no surprise that Kotobukiya’s Villains Forever line was all dudes. However, while she wasn’t officially announced, Harley WAS part of that initial art announcement (though in her New 52 style, which is this obviously not). So it was great to see her out as a surprise announcement at NYCC. They went for a very different style with her: the face is much more realistic and less comic-y. It’s beautifully detailed, especially given how tiny she is–the ArtFX+ line is 1/10 scale. And we got some good related news at the panel: they are considering doing the other Gotham City Sirens, Poison Ivy and Catwoman, to go along with her!

  • Earlier this week we saw Bigshot Toyworks‘ Destiny figures, but of course they had a lot more at the event! And most of it didn’t even feature my faves, the Ponies of the ‘Pocalypse. There was quite the variety going on! My favorite was definitely the Colonel Sanders trio “Southern Fried Gentlemen”, which tickles my fried chicken loving heart. They’re just so adorable! I 100% would put one of these in my kitchen with my other food-themed figures, which there are a surprising amount of. You can find out more about these figures and many more by signing up for the Bigshot Toyworks mailing list!

  • There seems to be a pattern with me and the Horror Bishoujo line. When we first find out about an announcement, I’m skeptical (“cute girl Chucky?” I say to myself. “No thanks.”). The art is unveiled and I’m basically won over because it’s always so good. Then we get the sculpt, and I’m totally in love. It happened with Edward Scissorhands, and it’s happening again with Chucky, who I think I actually like the most of the line so far! She’s just so adorable but also evil. The knife behind her back? Such a nice touch. Plus she comes with an alternate scarred head if you want a little more horror in your life. The sculpt here is just lovely, and we found out that Tiffany will be done by the same person so the two should fit together perfectly when they’re completed!

  • Figure fans have been dying for an accurate, well-done Zelda figure since basically the dawn of time. Recently Nintendo has been a little looser with their licenses, which we’ve seen with the 5 billion Link figures (and one Nendoroid Zelda) that they’ve come out with recently. But poor Zelda was basically on the sideline…. until now! At NYCC they had both the Twilight Princess figmas out and about. They are definitely some of the most detailed figmas I’ve ever seen, especially Zelda. So many elements to her outfit! And the colors look so beautiful and game-accurate.

  • I was never really a big Spider-Man fan, or Spider-verse fan even. It just wasn’t a comic world that interested me. That changed pretty drastically when they announced Ultimate Spider-Man, aka my bae Miles Morales. Of course it was nice to see more diversity in the comics world, but he’s near and dear to my heart because of how much my brother identifies with and loves this character. He has a lot of things in common with Miles (boarding school, a love of Legos, feeling very different) so it was amazing to have a character he could connect to that strongly. Of course I’ve been anticipating this figure like crazy since it was first announced. A little baby Miles? Yes please! And as we found out at their panel, his pre-orders have been selling incredibly well (so maybe more Miles merch in the future?!). They also had the ArtFX+ Spider Gwen on display (which I must admit I like a bit more than the Bishoujo). Check them both out below!

  • Camilla from Fire Emblem was definitely the darling of Good Smile Company’s booth. There was always quite a crowd around her, so it could be difficult to take a really good look at all the details. Thankfully, we got to set her free from her glass prison and get a 360 peek at this beauty! As I mentioned when we first saw her, I still think the breast sculpt is a little much (though at least it makes more sense than most because of the armor corset), but I’m smitten with everything else about her. The hair sculpt in particular is just stunning. So detailed! Plus she has little cat ears and an adorable tiara. Cat princess of my heart.
