  • I always have very strong opinions about Alter’s event displays. Usually their Wonder Festival lineups disappoint me, because they save all the good stuff for MegaHobby. But not in 2018! We have a really killer batch of figures from my favorite manufacturer. Many of them are what you’d expect: we have quite a few Fate/Stay Night figures (including the gorgeous header Saber, a reclining Mash Kyrielight, the sculpt for Edmond Dantes, and their absolutely epic Jeanne d’Arc Alter), finally the painted Okoi, an IDOLM@STER announcement (Asuka Ninomiya), and two To LOVEru cuties (Haruna once again and a lingerie Momo). But of course there were surprises as well! Like the elaborate bunnygirl version of Narberal Gamma from Overlord II, and some from-left-field announcements like Vampire from Azur Lane and Teletha Testarossa from Full Metal Panic! I know some people have been waiting a LONG time for Panic figures. Check out all of them and more after the jump! [via figsoku]

  • Ahh, Alter. I have almost entirely sworn off buying figures, but when I am tempted it’s Alter at least 50% of the time. Something about them just really gets me in my figure-loving soul. And this event is no exception! While they only had a few goodies on hand, they were all absolutely gorgeous: from their stunning new Gwendolyn to the unbearably adorable Anzu Futaba, Alter still has it going on. Of course there were no big surprises. We have their usual go-to franchises: Fate (this time it’s a casual Lancer), IDOLM@STER, Love Live! (I never stop wanting these girls, sigh), Free!, and Tales of. Plachta from Atelier Sophie was definitely a nice surprise, as I didn’t expect her to turn out so beautifully based on the sculpt. [UPDATE] Added some lovely bonus pictures from Hobby Maniax [via Dengeki & AmiAmi]

  • Guys, I think Flare finally got me. I keep insisting, “No, too expensive, don’t need it!” But this year, I want everything so bad. Mostly because it’s almost entirely Tony Taka, which I can always get behind. Swimsuit versions of Won Pairon and Altina Mel Sylphis, and they’re doing a cute teacher (?!) Sakuya. The Rei from their teasers is here (but no sign of Noah yet, weird) and they WILL INDEED be doing a matching Asuka!! Yuss. We also have the beautiful dress Gwendolyn from last WonFest sculpted, and announcements for YoRHa No. 2 Type B from Nier: Automata and an original character from Happoubi Jin. [UPDATE] Finally found Noah, and added Saber Bride as well! [via Hobby Search]

  • Once again, Alter’s event booth is totally dominated by idol girls (and some idol boys!). Oddly enough, I kind of hate watching all those shows but I passionately love the figures. Who knows with these things. And oh boy is this a good year for idol-loving peeps. Their stunning Ranko is painted, along with Sachiko. We’ve got the world’s freaking cutest Anzu Futaba and a sassy as hell Shiki Ichinose. As for Love Live!, there are new figures of Rin Hoshizora and Hanayo Koizumi. For the boys, we have Ai Mikaze and Ranmaru Kurosaki from Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ painted and Camus is sculpted. The much-anticipated Okoi from Oboro Muramasa is here, and we have an announcement for Torahime! There was a surprise sculpt for SAO‘s Sinon, the casual Lancer sculpt, Ikumi Mito it painted, and we’ve got a very suggestive maid Lala. Oh, and Santa Alter Saber is on display too! It’s so weird and over the top but I love Christmas figures. [via AmiAmi’s Twitter]

  • Alter has always been my favorite figure manufacturer, and while there have been times my heart was swayed by others (Max Factory! AlphaMax! Orchid Seed!), I come back to them time and time again because of their consistent quality and unique sculpts. And once again they brought it in force to MegaHobby with a variety of gorgeous sculpts, painted figures, and new announcements. Of course there were a few from their IDOLM@STER line: their Rin Shibuya (who looks basically identical to the GSC one, let’s be honest) is painted, and they brought out the sculpt for their perfect winged Ranko who I love with all my heart. And the boys were out in force! Rei and Ritsu Sakuma from Ensemble Stars!, Cecil Aijima from Uta no☆Prince-sama♪, Haruka Nanase and Tachibana Mako from Free!, and an announcement for 3 new Free! boys: Sousuke Yamazaki, Nagisa Hazuki, and Rei Ryuugazaki. Plus the brand-new Dio Eraclea from Last Exile. They also had a beautiful 1/6 scale figure of Takao, the cheesy but appealing Santa Saber Alter, Ikumi Mito finally sculpted, Lala Deviluke in a maid outfit, Plachta from the Atelier games, and two new announcements: Hikari Karibuchi from Brave Witches and Okoi from Oboro Muramasa! • When we found out that Alter would be making a recolor of their Momohime, I was at first skeptical. However, I quickly jumped on the hype train when I realized we might be getting her gorgeous orange alternate outfit. Well, we’re getting the reveal a bit earlier than I thought (I imagined they’d wait until MegaHobby, which is this weekend) and… yeah, not what I expected. Instead of a bold recolor we’re getting a slightly altered and subdued take on her. It’s really not even that different! More muted, more warm-toned, and her eyes have a lovely red rim that makes her look hungover. Okay, it still looks beautiful, but the original is just so stunning that I wish we got something more exciting for this take on her. Orders open tonight. [via Alter’s Blog]

  • Alter’s original Momohime is one of my all-time favorite figures. Top 5, probably, which is really saying something given how many I have and her relative age. But Momohime has held up as an example of a perfect figure: the sculpt, the paint, the pose, the mood, the base… it’s just everything you could want. She’s gotten quite a few re-releases over the years, but they’re going a different route for this one. Because it’s a recolor! I have to wonder why–with so many re-releases they know she’s popular, why not do another sculpt? Her original colors are just so amazing I’m having a hard time getting behind this. But I’ll probably order her anyway. [via Alter’s Blog]

  • Amakuni is a strange company. Some of their sculpts, like the recent 7 Sins figures, are totally amazing. And then they really drop the ball in terms of quality, like with their hot springs Momohime who was a bit of a hot mess. And sadly, the trend will continue with their matching Kongiku. In theory this is a figure I should really love. Voluptuous fox lady in a towel? But aside from her face, nothing is doing it for me. Her breast sculpt is just weird (one so squished and floating, the other normal?), and the seams on her tail are SO bad. Like, “looks like a figure from 2008” bad. I thought we were past such things! Her retail of ¥10000 seems almost reasonable, but this is Amakuni so you know she’s an exclusive. Pre-order At: Big In Japan | Nippon Yasan

  • Phat! Company has quickly gone from a company that I considered just okay to one of my favorites. Probably because of their amazing IDOLM@STER line, which has been… perfect. And of course there were many IM@S girls at the event! The stunning Ami & Mami Futami duo is sculpted, Minami Nitta is painted along with Azusa Miura, and we have announcements for Anzu Futaba and Kirari Moroboshi! The Granblue Fantasy girls were also stunning: Io and Yueru are painted and idol Gita is sculpted. That would be enough to satisfy me, but there’s more! They have an adorable Shimakaze sculpt along with announcements for Shiratsuyu & Murasame. Surprisingly, there’s a sculpt for Jibril from No Game No Life which I am DYING over. Check them out and more (like the new Medicchu & Parfom) in the gallery! [via Phat’s Twitter]

  • The last time we saw Alter’s Yuzuruha from Oboro Muramasa was back in November, during MegaHobby. She was fully painted and I think we all expected orders to open soon, but it’s been months without seeing anything about her! I’m guessing Alter wanted to add some finishing touches, but I assumed that orders would open before Winter Wonder Festival–and I was probably right! We’re getting a preview of her–sadly not from Alter’s blog (which would confirm a pre-order date), but it’s still progress. She looks just as beautiful as you’d expect, with a crazily detailed sculpt and gorgeous paint. I absolutely can’t wait to see her next to Momohime! [via Dengeki]
