  • Does anyone else worry that Orchid Seed is kind of dying? I think about it often. They used to be one of my faves, and I will be forever thankful that they actually put out Samurai Tamaki, but it seems like every event they have less and less. Will I ever get my library girl? No. No I will not. This year there were only 3 real updates: swimsuit Mammon and the Dark Elf are painted, and they have the sculpt for swimsuit Tomoe was on display. That’s basically it. And they had very little art too, though the focus did seem to be on swimsuit Sonico so she’s probably next. [via Dengeki]

  • Have you ever felt deeply, personally betrayed by a figure company? Like they’re an ex boyfriend who done you wrong and you’ll never forgive them? That’s my relationship with Orchid Seed. Six years ago (SIX YEARS AGO) they showed off a beautiful figure of a girl in a library with a cat. And then. NOTHING. WHERE IS LIBRARY WAIFU ORCHID? Cause she ain’t here. So, what is here? Like, nothing. Some updates on their still-going Seven Sins line (Belphegor is painted, Mammon is… Mammon), but other than that? Stocking: still just sculpted. Dark Elf: still just sculpted. Some Queen’s Blade art: yeah, still just art. I’m close to fed up with this damn company. [via figsoku]

  • Oh, Orchid Seed. They used to be one of my top 3 favorite companies but we’ve had something of a falling out lately. They’re just so damn slow! It’s been over 4 years and I am still waiting for my library girl. Spoiler alert: she’s not at this event either. I mean, to be fair, they did have a lot of new: including two of my most anticipated figures from them, Kureha and Tamaki, painted. Also lots of new Seven Sins stuff, which makes me wonder how much production & time it’s eating up. I mean, they have over 20 figures still in the art stage! But thankfully, it seems like we have no new art announcements this time. Maybe next year I’ll get library girl… [via Dengeki]

  • For a while I was worried that Orchid Seed was dying as a company. They have fewer and fewer releases every year, and it seems like they’ve totally forgotten about all those 3+ year old sculpts and art. This would be tragic, because I love Orchid. Thankfully, they had a bit of a revival at Wonder Festival! Except for my library boo, who sadly did not make an appearance. But a ton of older stuff is painted! Or sculpted! And, thank god, they don’t have 10+ new art announcements, just a small handful. Check ’em all out in the gallery. [via figsoku & amiami]

  • Another year has come and gone. It always surprises me when it happens: 2014 seems like it was just a few months ago! But here we are, and it’s time to do our annual Best Of lists (including, of course, Golden Boobs & Butts). But we have to start with the most traditional Best Of list: our favorite figures! It’s impossible to do an objective “these were the best figures of the year” list, especially since it’s not like we can own every release of the year, so once again we’ve just gone with the ones that made us happiest! Hit the jump and let’s get started~

  • It seems like Good Smile Company & co brought more to Miyazawa Model Expo than everyone else combined. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have good stuff from the other companies! In fact, we have way more non-GSC news to show you. So let’s just dive right in! Vertex showed off a ton of sculpts, including the Rune Knight from 7th Dragon which looks amazing. Kaitendoh’s Hestia is painted, and Wave brought theirs as well (along with tons of Beach Queens, most of them from Love Live). Dragon Toy/Daiki Kougyou showed off a handful of new sculpts, including some original Oda Non works. One of AlphaMax’s newest Tony Taka girls is painted, Orchid Seed actually made progress on a figure, we have announcements from Revolve and Gecco, there’s a new set of Digimon figures from MegaHouse, and tons more. Check it all out in the gallery! [via Akibahobby]

  • When a line is milked as hard as Hobby Japan has been pushing the Seven Deadly Sins, we get a lot of recolors. And oh man have they gone to town on these girls: almost all of the standard ones have gotten recolors, and even some of the alternate sculpts! I have to say, I’m a bit surprised they did a recolor of Satan: I mean, the red is a classic. And if they were going to do another, you’d expect like black right? Maybe a bloody garnet? Nope, she’s blue and white! So maybe this is the Inferno colorway, where Satan is trapped in ice, but 1) she only has one face so probably not and 2) I really don’t think they’re that clever. I guess this matches the pastel Lucifer? I’d rather have a version to match this, thank you very much. Satan is, no surprise, an exclusive: she retails for ¥11,000 and is set for a March release date. You can snag one right now at Big In Japan! [via Hobby Japan]

  • Every year I get my hopes up with Orchid Seed. I think “this is the year we’ll finally see library girl get painted! Or that Kureha sculpt!” And every damn year I’m let down. This time around there’s surprisingly little in the way of new: in fact, we have NO new announcements and only two new sculpts. One of them is the boring bikini girl Tsukiumi. Orchid, please work on your old cool announcements. Enough bikinis! But the other announcement has me so happy. Finally, they’ve sculpted the Samurai Tamaki! Do you know how long I’ve been waiting for an Orchid Tama-nee? My whole life. Literally. Oh, and they have Belial and alt Mammon out too! [via Akibahobby]

  • Apparently Orchid Seed wants to finish up with all the bunny girl figures waiting in the wings before Wonder Festival. First there was the Mio-clone Aoi Ayanokouji, and now they’re bringing us Yumiko Sakaki who was announced (surprise) 3 years ago. And while the concept is as old as Aoi’s, I think Yumiko looks a heck of a lot better. The sculpt is crisper, the use of clear PVC is awesome, and it’s just overall more appealing–to me, at least! I mean, her face is just so cute. And her hair. Plus, you know, the butt. She is 1/7 scale, and orders will open tonight! Hopefully her price will be as reasonable as Aoi’s… [via Orchid’s Blog]

  • You would think by now that Orchid Seed’s incredibly slow pace wouldn’t surprise me, but I still find myself a bit shocked when a figure announced 3 years ago finally gets painted. I mean… that is a hell of a wait. Today we’re getting an update on Aoi Ayanokouji from Makai Tenshi Djibril 4, a series we haven’t seen figures from in a VERY long time. While Aoi is kind of a generic-looking character (I mean, it’s practically NSFW Mio in a bunny suit), the sculpt shows Orchid’s typical attention to body posture and anatomy. However, I think this suffers from age: though she was only announced 3 years ago (“only”), the hair sculpt is already pretty bland and she’s far less interesting than some of their other concepts. Orders open tonight! [via Orchid’s Blog]
