Persona 4 Arena Archive

  • Did you know that so far, counting all the recolors we’ve gotten, there have been ten Persona figmas so far–but only one boy? Which is odd, because the cast is always split about 50/50 between the male and female characters. But god forbid we get tons of figures of them! Grumble grumble. Well, we are at least getting a figma of the Persona 4 protagonist (why not P3? Whyyy), and I’m sure we’ll see some more once P5 comes out. But today we’re looking at Yu Narukami, the prematurely gray highschooler who saves the world! He popped up in the NicoNico broadcast, so I was pretty sure orders would open soon. And indeed, they have! He comes with everything we originally saw–glasses, sword, and a card. Honestly, it’s not as much as I’d like, but I’ll take it. Oh, and if you order from Good Smile you get… a second jacket! Wow, thrilling. I’m always happy when their exclusive bonuses are things I’d never want. He retails for ¥6,000 with a September release date. Pre-Order At: AmiAmi | Hobby Search | Good Smile Online (bonus jacket)

  • One of my very first PVC purchases years and years ago was Wave’s hard-to-get Teddie, who even back then was a challenge to find (especially the rare variants!). But since then Persona 4‘s popularity in the figure world has skyrocketed to proportions I never would have guessed. So of course we got lots more Teddie figures! This one is really riding on the tail end of P4‘s success (or on hype for Persona 5, perhaps?) but of course I’m going to get it. IT’S TEDDIE. I was kind of bummed by the initial plain art, but he looked great at Anime Japan and of course he looks great in the promotional shots! It’s definitely on the simpler end of things, but the price (¥5,800) reflects that. He’s actually pretty large, 7 inches tall, so it’s a bargain! Of course Aniplex figures are always exclusives, but they do ship overseas so he won’t break the bank… too much. [via P4_A’s Twitter]

  • Oh look, another event in Japan! This one isn’t actually centered around figures like MegaHobby or WonFest–it’s about anime! And that’s where 80% of figures come from, so of course a few showed up. We’ll start off with Aniplex who brought quite a few new things. The first in importance (to me) is the sculpted Teddie–he looks so great! And huge. Then we’ve got painted versions of the maiko Sayaka & Kyoko, who took a while but they definitely look like they were worth it. Then there’s the surprise announcement: Shiki Ryougi! Her pose looks really great and dynamic, but of course Aniplex = expensive. They also had a few up-for-order figures out and about, so check them all out in the gallery. [via Dengeki]

  • Are you ready for the most un-BEAR-ably cute booth at Wonder Festival? Because it has that announced Teddie, who has already stolen my heart. I love him so very very much and he will be mine. There was some other stuff too, I guess, like towel Mami and the Maiko versions of Sayaka & Kyoko. Wedding Saber made her painted appearance, but while I really love wedding figures usually this just isn’t doing it for me. And last but not least is cancer girl Kaori Miyazono from Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso. This figure’s sculpt is just BEARLY hanging in there! But for real, that face is a tragedy. [via Akibahobby]

  • Nowadays we can except two things from ques Q: Kantai and Touhou. Both, of course, were out in force! We’ll start with KanColle because I am so freaking tired of talking about it. Yukikaze, Kongou, Nagato and Haruna were out along with a ton of announcements: Takao, Naka, and Ooi. As for Touhou, we have the Remilia (still not painted, and no updated on Remilia #1 whyy), a new Patchouli Knowledge, Komeji Koishi, and an announcement for her sister Komeji Satori. Of course it can’t all be KanColle and Touhou. Their amazing Amy (see what I did there) from Suisei no Gargantia is her and FANTASTIC. Then we have Labrys, Chino Kafuu, Venera-sama, TWO announced figures of Takao, an original bunny character Usamimizugi, and Hoozuki. Last but not least (in my heart) is the announcement of Sylvia from Rage of Bahamut. [via Akibahobby]

  • Max Factory tends to be a bit more evasive with their teasers than their parent company: usually we only get two or three blurry shots. Well this year it’s a whole four! Two of them are new: a figma of KanColle‘s Yukikaze and a scaled figure of Iona from Ars Nova. As for the old, the Persona 4 MC is sculpted (!! can you believe I forgot about him?), and the Miku Hatsune Mirai racing queen figure is sculpted AND painted. There’s also a mysterious ship that seems like it’s probably connected to KanColle… any ideas, Plastikitties? [via the figma blog]

  • Teddie from Persona 4 might be the most divisive character in the MegaTen series (though really, that “honor” should go to Ken THE WORST OF ALL CHARACTERS), but he sure has got a lot of merchandise! More than any other cast member, since Wave was making figures of him back in 2009 and he’s gotten a ton of plushes. And as a member of Team Teddie, I’m excited for a new one on the horizon! This version will be manufactured by Aniplex, and will be soft vinyl (not PVC). So, he’ll be squishy! Just like real life. He’s also rather larger than the Teddies we’ve gotten in the past, clocking in at just under 7 inches. Plus, moveable limbs! Let’s just hope he’s not an exclusive. [via Aniplex’s Twitter]

  • Sometimes figure collecting is a rollercoaster of emotions. The elation when a figure of Persona 4’s Adachi gets a figure announcement, the sinking dread when it’s kind of awful but also an exclusive. This is honestly one of those figures I would order, despite the silly price (that, given some figures *cough*FlareBayonetta* maybe doesn’t seem so silly anymore). This is one of those exclusives I would definitely order at a regular retailer–I just really love MegaTen okay, don’t judge me! Well, we’ve got good news and bad news. Bad news is honestly only if you paid proxy fees because lo and behold he’s suddenly up at AmiAmi! And for a whopping 80 yen off his retail price. So, not really a discount, BUT also no proxy fees. Hooray! Except now I’m tempted to order him and he still looks terrible. LIFE IS HARD.

  • Miyazawa is one of those events I always forget about. I saw all this news popping up and said “what the hell?!” But indeed, it’s one of the (many) autumn hobby events! So let’s get right into it. Phat! Company seemed to bring the most: their new Ranko, Makoto’s sculpt, a tiny teaser of Takane, the action figure Labrys (so cuute!), the painted  Yuudachi Kai Ni, and the chibi figure of Hikoujouki (Harbor Princess). Oh, and let’s not forget: the full sculpt for their Shiro! KanColle unsurprisingly ruled above all, once again. We’ve got the Nendoroids of Suzuya & Kumano, along with ANOTHER Nendo announcement: Kirishima! There was also the sculpt for the figFIX Amatsukaze. Nendoroids of Elsa, Senbonzakura Miku, Kyouko Toshino, Akari Yomatsuri, and Tobio Kageyama. Of course that’s not all: don’t forget about the tiny Detective Conan and FREEing’s yukata figures of Misaka & Kuroko. [UPDATE] Added Max Factory’s Venera-sama, Gift’s Vita and Penguin Parade’s Miyuki Shiba from moeyo! [via Hobbylog, Phat!’s Twitter]

  • Sometimes figure disappointment hits so hard it hurts. Then again, I probably shouldn’t be that disappointed by the outcome of World Scope’s Adachi: after all, the sculpt was lackluster and he wasn’t looking so hot at Wonder Festival. But despite Persona 4’s commercial success we’ve seen pathetically few figures from it, and this was the first mass-produced Adachi… so of course my hopes were a bit too high. Well, he’s finished now… and he looks like a prize figure. Sloppy hair sculpt, a severe lack of shading. Which would be fine if he was priced on the lower end, but you’ll have to plop down ¥9,000 for this detective: and to boot, he’s an exclusive. WHY? At least he comes with a cute extra, a set of grocery-bag holding arms.
