  • Bandai’s Pokemon model kit series usually features monsters from the newer generations like Cobalion, but recently Gen 1 has seen a resurgence in popularity due to their D-Arts line featuring Pokemon like Mewtwo and Charizard. So it’s no surprise they are bringing the model kit line back to its roots as well! We’re getting a Charmander evolution line featuring (of course) Charmander, Charmeleon and Charizard. The best part, all 3 are only ¥555 on AmiAmi! So it’d be pretty affordable to have a whole army of these little guys. I wonder if this means we’ll see pre-orders for the D-Arts soon?

  • Kotobukiya didn’t have anything new on display at the Miyazawa Model Exhibition this year, but they did bring along a whole ton of figures that are up for order like Fire Sakuya, Kuroyukihime, Vash the Stampede, the Yotsuba & KOS-MOS kits, the controversial Dark Magician, and Cu-Poches Haruka & Madoka. Even some Bishoujos showed up, like Jaina Solo and Jaycee, so check them all out in the gallery! [via Kotobukiya’s Facebook]

  • We wrapped up our New York Comic Con coverage a few days ago, but of course photos weren’t the only thing that came home with me & Stephen from the convention! Loot is one of the main lures for toy fans, and NYCC certainly had exclusives to spare. Seemingly every booth in the Cultyard had several exclusives up for offer, and while we went in planning to only nab a few we ended up with more than we bargained for! So hit the jump to check out our tasty loot haul for NYCC.

  • While I don’t build a lot of kits, I really do enjoy the process when I have time. It’s really nowhere near as easy as you’d think it would be, but boy is it fun! I really appreciate the work that goes into a good custom, like this mashup of Gloomy Bear and Bear Gundam! It’s a simple mod, mostly a color swap and the addition of Gloomy’s signature scary claws, but the work is so sleek and clean. Now I want to make my own Gloomy Gundam to terrorize all of my other figures! [via fg-site]

  • The week after Wonder Festival we really don’t see that many releases from companies. In fact, they’re usually so busy moving stuff back and resting up that this week would be a “dead week” with only a few figures going up for order. Well, we’re not exactly bursting at the seams with them, but we do have enough for a roundup! And some very nice ones at that, including (finally) another one of Alter’s Witches, Meat from Good Smile Company, and a really big bunny girl. So hit the jump to check them all out!

  • Customizing Gundam kits is a big deal in Japan, and people have done some truly amazing things with them. They’ve also done some truly hilarious things, as we saw with the custom Gundams that were on display at Gundam Expo 2011. We’ve got a Mario Gundam, Bear Gundams galore, a spaceship customized into a kitty, and a realistic-looking giraffe and a dinosaur made entirely out of Gundam parts. Of course there were serious customs as well, like some jaw-dropping customs of samurais and an incredible water scene. There’s a giant, glowing Gundam Unicorn, the coolest Wing Zero custom I’ve ever seen, and a whole lot more. So hit the jump to check them out! [via Hobbystock]
