  • Given all of the “is the Ghost in the Shell movie racist because ScarJo is in it even though the original creator wanted her?!” nonsense surrounding the American GitS, it’s hard to remember that yes, it’s actually coming out soon and of course there will be a ton of merchandise. It’ll be interesting to see if any Japanese PVC companies take it on (ArtFX+, maybe?) but for now we have a surprise POP line from Funko. There are 3 characters in it (so far): Major, Geisha, and Batou. I don’t remember ScarJo’s hair being that blue-tipped in the 97 previews I’ve seen, but let’s just roll with it. I sure hope they make a Geisha with the alternate head-explody face!

  • It’s time to accelerate! Funko’s Overwatch line has certainly been successful, but everyone wants their main to be released ASAP. Which is a problem when there’s, like, two dozen characters. But they’re working as fast as they can! Wave 2 was on display at Toy Fair, and it includes D.Va (in mech), Lucio, Mei, McCree, Symmetra, and Reinhardt. I’m still sad there is no tiny Bastion, but perhaps wave 3 will finally fill my robot dreams.

  • Some of my fondest childhood memories revolve around those classic late 90’s Nickelodeon shows. My dad and I can still sing the ‘Reptar on Ice’ song from memory and often make jokes about the lamp from Aaahh!!! Real Monsters. Good times. It seems like they have been a little neglected merch-wise, so I was very surprised to see figures from them at Funko’s booth! We have, of course, Rugrats (Reptar totally steals the show), Catdog, and Ickis, Oblina, and Krumm from Real Monsters. I want Oblina so bad guys. I wonder if they’ll make a few more, like maybe some from Angry Beavers or Doug? Qualiman please.

  • We are officially less than a month away from Mass Effect Andromeda. Are you excited? Have you placed a pre-order? Are you ready for an onslaught of merchandise before you’ve even played the game and had time to pick a favorite character? Because Funko is ready to take all your money. They had a whopping 5 POPs from Andromeda out and about at Toy Fair: Sara Ryder, Ceebee, Liam Kosta, Jaal, and The Archon. Sara will have 2 variants (Masked & N7), and there will be an alternate Peebee with a gun. I just have one question: where is my Wrex POP? I want merch of my Krogan husband please.

  • What time is it? Time for Leah to totally miss news about her favorite cartoon! So the info about these cuties went up a while ago but so far pre-orders have yet to appear on any US site so better late than never, right? Usually I don’t pay a ton of attention to Funko’s POP! line but occasionally they feature characters I can’t live without like Jack Skellington and now part of the Adventure Time cast! We’ve got, of course, Finn and Jake, along with the Ice King, Marceline and Lumpy Space Princess. But no Bubblegum, how surprising! While I think Finn looks a bit, uh, stretched-out the rest of the cast is looking awesome. These should be around $18-15 when they go up, not bad at all. Peppermint Butler next please! • You know, we’ve been really up to date with our loot posts recently, getting them done right after boxes come in. Well, technically we got to July as soon as possible. AmiAmi decided to combine half of our July with our August stuff–the end of August to boot, so we had to wait a whole month for some of these beauties! Of course, we’re never really in a huge rush to get figures–we prefer to get them in small batches, so I can open one at a time and admire them all individually. So who did we get in our July order? Hit the jump to find out!

  • MegaHouse’s Portrait of Pirates line is wildly popular, due in part to the success of One Piece and in part to how ridiculously limited the run numbers are. They lead to huge glitchfests on order sites, so MegaHouse tries to prepare us well in advance. Now they’ve announced two February orders: Benn Beckman of the NEO-DX line and the stunning Shirahoshi of the Sailing Again line. Now, I am not a huge fan of the One Piece designs (to put it lightly) but even I cannot resist the charms of the Goldfish Princess! Though I could do without the little Luffy in her hand–let’s hope it’s removable. Both of these are listed as 1/8 scale, but the P.O.P line is pretty large. They will both be released in June, and orders open February 8th at 18:00 JST. Get your refresh buttons ready! [via the POP Blog]

  • Welcome to the last PVC Pre-Order Roundup of 2011! This is probably going to be the last interesting roundup for a while too, as most of the Japanese companies are on vacation until at least January 6th (with Orchid Seed taking a break until the 10th!). Of course here at Plastikitty we’ll still be posting news! This was clearly the week of Touhou–as if in a rush to get out a bunch of pre-orders before the end of the year, Griffon went and put up 3 new Touhou girls, Kotobukiya re-released two of theirs, and we got another new Reimu as well! That gives us three Reimus in total, and 6 Touhou girls, which is odd because we’re usually lucky to get one or two a week! Another trend was swimsuit girls, with 5 figures this week who are ready to hit the beach. It was also a pretty slow week, so we ended up with only 5 figures that weren’t Touhou- or swimsuit-related! Hit the jump to check them all out.

  • While Griffon’s Touhou Project line gets a lot of love from the community, their POP line tends to get a lot of hate for some reason. Probably because none of them are as good as Alter’s POP Alice, but let’s face it, very few figures are as good as that! Personally I really like it, and I have their POP Remilia and love it. I was excited when she was announced, and I thought she looked great at Treasure Festa. They’ve shown off some preview images of her, and while she still doesn’t look 100% like the art I’m pretty pleased with the end result. It has that nice, chibified feel of the art while having a little more depth to the sculpt. She should be going up for order soon, along with Hina Kagiyama! You know, I can’t recall a time when Griffon has put up so many Touhou figures in a row. They must have more planned, because they are quickly running through their backlog of sculpts! • I haven’t been paying much attention to Funko’s POP! line–it seems to be mostly Disney characters, which I’m not a huge fan of, or superheroes not really suited to the odd proportions of the figures. But as soon as I heard that they had acquired the Uglydoll license, my interest was piqued. I imagined that they would suit the unique shape of the POP! line quite well, and I was right! These little guys are just oozing cuteness. There’s Ice Bat, Wage, Babo, Ox, and Ninja Batty Shogun, all of which look amazing. Plus, they’re so cheap! Only $9.99 a pop (pun not intended!) and pre-orders are up at Big Bad Toy Store. They’re coming in January, and considering their size (about 5″ tall) this is a fantastic deal. I am definitely going to be snatching up a few of these!
