  • Kotobukiya’s action figure Cu-Poche line has been booming lately. It seems like only yesterday that we were photographing the Dark Magician Girl Cu-Poche, but it was almost 4 years ago! Time sure flies when you’re getting old, amirite? Today we are looking at Sebastian from Black Butler, everyone’s favorite demon housekeeper. Sebastian is one of those few male characters who manages to cling onto popularity long after his first hit the figure scene. In fact, Koto even did a scaled figure of him a short while back! But how will this handsome lil devil hold up in chibi form? Hit the jump and let’s find out!

  • Another day, another event in Japan! This time around it’s Anime Japan 2017, a smaller event that only a handful of companies attend. But they still had quite a few new goodies to show us. Re:Zero seemed to be the real star here: Rem & Ram have figures from Good Smile Company, and Rem is getting a Cu-Poche. Kemono Friends also proved to be quite popular, with the Nendoroid reveal of Serval and a figma announcement for her too. There were, of course, many Nendoroids out on display. Li Syaoran is sculpted and so cute! We had a few new announements from Kotobukiya too, like a scaled figure of Aiz Wallenstein from Dungeon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka Gaiden: Sword Oratoria. Why with these names, Japan. Aiz had a fully painted surprise figure from Genco out & about too. Check them out and much more in the gallery! [via Kahotan & Dengeki]

  • At Toy Fair, Good Smile Company had a whole slew of Disney Nendoroid announcements. They also had the sculpt for Belle out on display, but she was strictly do not photograph so we had to wait to show you guys. And I’ve been kind of dying for this moment, because she looked so adorable in person and I knew the paint would be spectacular! Well, just in time for the live action movie, they are finally showing her off to the public. How amazing is the lil dress spinning pose? So precious. I hope she comes with some of the castle inhabitants as accessories, especially Chip and Cogsworth. Really, they could do a whole set of Petit Nendos from Beauty & the Beast and I’d snap them up happily. [via Kahotan]

  • The figma line has become very diverse over the years. We started out with the expected: Japanese anime, manga, and video games. But it has expanded quite a bit since then, with everything from US movie licenses to figmas based on classic art. So what’s next? Why, obviously real-life wrestlers, of course! Are you confused? Because I am confused, but also a little excited. We’ve had real-people figmas before but this one just seems so random and whimsical. I hope they do a whole line. And we get some US wrestlers, too! Who would you like to see in figma form? [via nft_mxf’s Twitter]

  • I am usually a staunch defender of the constant flood of Miku Hatsune figures. While it’s all figures of the same character, there is just so much variety! Racing Miku, Snow Miku, Maiko Miku, Mebae Miku, Tell Your World Miku, Deep Sea Miku… see what I mean? It doesn’t seem repetitive to have so many figures of her when they look so vastly different. But I have a confession: I don’t really love her basic design! I used to be all about it, and I have the original Max Factory and GSC versions of her. And as you can see in the comparison photo of the old & new GSC sculpts, they’ve come a loooong way. The difference in quality is astounding! For me, I prefer the more outrageous Mikus. For new collectors, though, this is a great opportunity: not only is her sculpt great, but her price is ¥8,241–almost unheard of in 2017! And you have a while to save that $80 up because she’s not coming out until 2018. [via Kahotan]

  • The sculpt for Albedo was love at first sight for me. I am such a sucker for wings, and hers might be the nicest sculpted ones I’ve ever laid eyes on. I mean, the detail level is just absurd! So of course I was basically foaming at the mouth to see her painted and get that order in. Well, that day is here and… I’m not as excited as I thought I would be. This is no fault of the figure: I’d never watched Overlord, so I thought her colors would be a bit more dramatic. White dress and black wings? I mean, it’s nice, but I feel like the white makes the sculpt look a little washed out. It also highlights one of my biggest pet peeves: clothing you can see a belly button through yet is magically not skintight anywhere else. Japan, why do you hurt me? Albedo retails for ¥17,600 and is thankfully not an exclusive! Her release date is way off in December, so you have a long time to save up for this beauty. Pre-Order At: HLJ | AmiAmi | GSC (bonus item)

  • Bandai has given us a lot of Pokemon S.H.Figaurts in the past, but they have all been of the actual ‘mons and not the human characters. An odd decision, considering how much easier it is to articulate a human than a giant lizard! But the day has finally come when we get Ash & co. Or at least Ash, Jessie, and James. Weird combo to start out with, but I can dig it. Ash comes with, of course, Pikachu, and Jessie & James have Meowth. The accessories are minimal (this is Bandai we’re talking about), but still cute–like the dizzy face for Meowth! There is an exclusive set of all 3 that includes an extra crying face for Ash, but you will need a proxy to get it. Thankfully there are non-exclusives up for the rest of us! Ash retails for ¥4,500 and the Jessie & James set is ¥9,500, while the exclusive will cost you ¥13,000. All 3 are set for a July release. [via Tamashii nations]

  • We’ve seen the rest of Kotobukiya’s DC TV line (Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash) so now it’s time for Gotham! Which, so far, is the only show to have more than one figure in it. Because you know everyone likes the villain more than the protagonist, but you can’t start a line off without a hero! My main question is, who names a little baby Oswald Cobblepot? You’re basically just asking to create a supervillain at that point, right? That or an NFL player (I’m looking at you, Ha Ha Clinton Dix). Both Oswald/Penguin and Jim Gordon are painted and ready for orders. Who would you like to see next in the line, Plastikitties?

  • When Kotobukiya started the Movie Bishoujo line, I never in a million years would have guessed that there would be a Tarantino girl in the mix. But here we are, living in the future. A future of Kill Bill Bishoujos. While I’m not a huge fan of the movie and thus not enthused about the Bishoujo, it’s still neat to see the detail work put into some of her sculpt. Take the shoes, for instance: they’re actually modeled exactly on the ones Uma wears in the film, and they had to be approved by Asics. Apparently it took a ton of attempts until they were absolutely perfect. One of those things you never really think about when looking at a figure, right? Maybe this is why most anime girls just wear generic loafers or heels…

  • So how are you guys enjoying this season of Felicity & Friends? I have seen exactly one episode, and granted I was at the gym so maybe I wasn’t paying close attention. But man, aliens in the DC world sure play it fast and loose, huh? You’d think posting even a single guard around kidnapped people would be mandatory. Not in ~tv land~ Anyway, Kotobukiya’s Arrow ArtFX+ was one of the figures we got to take out from behind the glass at Toy Fair. Look at his little arrows! He’s totally gonna attempt to shoot you with them but I doubt it would really hurt. Pew pew, watch out for tiny Arrow! Do you ever look at all these small scale superhero figures and imagine them trying to take down a normal-sized human in some sort of epic boss battle? And the human is you? No…. just me?
