  • Ah, Amakuni. I love their figures but I hate getting them, because they are always exclusives. Unfortunately for me (and my wallet), they have so many new figures my heart yearns for. I mean first off, and most obviously, my Persona 5 gals! Anne, Motoko, Futaba (light of my life), and now… Death Waifu?! I can’t believe they’re moving on to social link romances and leaving Haru in the dust. Poor Haru. And then there’s the gorgeous Tony Taka Racing Miku (be still my heart), and Yu-Gi-Oh DX’s Jaden. They showed off quite a few new things as well, like the Satsuki and Ryuuko from Kill la Kill they are adding to the weird “hot springs bath” line or whatever that is. We’ve also got Erina from Queen’s Blade Unlimited: the second QB figure of the night! I wonder why there’s been such a resurgence? And will we be getting new, cute Ymirs in the future?! [via moeyo]

  • As a company, MegaHouse absolutely bamboozles me. On one hand we have their cute, nostalgic, simple-but-well-made lines like their amazing Digimon and Pokemon figures, which were both out and about at MegaHobby. Then they bust out the occasional magnificent sculpt, like our header girl: Airi from Queen’s Blade! I cannot explain my excitement when I saw her: I always wanted a great Airi figure but assumed that time had come & gone long ago. But no, MegaHouse to the rescue! Then we have the other half of their line: the painfully tacky and often out-of-character girls, especially from beloved shows like Naruto and Dragonball Z. They’ve butchered so many of my faves. Just look at that Hinata. It hurts my soul. And I remember C.C in a lot more clothing, don’t you? The One Piece girls obviously fall into this category: the anatomy has gotten so bad that I kind of think it’s some big elaborate joke. The sculpting for this “side” of them is often simple to a fault and looks like it could have been from 8 years ago. Put Airi, the new Digimon boys, and that awful stripper pole Nami together: do they look like the same company? What is going on with MegaHouse?!?! [via moeyo]

  • Does anyone else worry that Orchid Seed is kind of dying? I think about it often. They used to be one of my faves, and I will be forever thankful that they actually put out Samurai Tamaki, but it seems like every event they have less and less. Will I ever get my library girl? No. No I will not. This year there were only 3 real updates: swimsuit Mammon and the Dark Elf are painted, and they have the sculpt for swimsuit Tomoe was on display. That’s basically it. And they had very little art too, though the focus did seem to be on swimsuit Sonico so she’s probably next. [via Dengeki]

  • Have you ever felt deeply, personally betrayed by a figure company? Like they’re an ex boyfriend who done you wrong and you’ll never forgive them? That’s my relationship with Orchid Seed. Six years ago (SIX YEARS AGO) they showed off a beautiful figure of a girl in a library with a cat. And then. NOTHING. WHERE IS LIBRARY WAIFU ORCHID? Cause she ain’t here. So, what is here? Like, nothing. Some updates on their still-going Seven Sins line (Belphegor is painted, Mammon is… Mammon), but other than that? Stocking: still just sculpted. Dark Elf: still just sculpted. Some Queen’s Blade art: yeah, still just art. I’m close to fed up with this damn company. [via figsoku]

  • Do you think there were enough events this week? First we had Miyazawa Model Expo, then the 42nd Prize Fair, and finally Animate Girls Festival. But apparently we need a nice, even number, so we have #4: Hobby Japan Character Festival! A celebration of all those exclusive figures you wish you could buy but probably can’t afford. There were no new announcements but we did have some updates, like the painted Hunter from Bikini Warriors and MegaHouse’s grown-up Aldra figure. Bikini Warriors‘ Mage also showed up (so adorable!) along with Kotobukiya’s amazing Fuyuka Yukishiro from Sword & Wizards. They also brought a ton of art, including an excessive amount of Satan from Seven Sins–maybe we’ll be getting another figure of her? [via moeyo]

  • Guys, guys… magazine scans are back! We have an actual batch of things that aren’t just “everything MegaHouse is doing that we already knew about!” Like, new figures and stuff! Okay, so it’s more like “pictures with an ungodly amount of flash” rather than, you know, scans, but it’s progress. Maybe one day we’ll be back to the golden days of actual scans. But for now, we’re close enough. This month we’ve got lots of goodies, including actual new figures–like that grown-up Aldra people have always wanted, an alternate Beelzebub from Seven Deadly Sins, and a recolor of Won Pairon from AlphaMax. We’re also getting a look at MegaHouse’s Bulma (she’s in a bunny outfit!) and quite a few figures are painted: MegaHouse’s Seiten, Kotobukiya’s Kirika, the new Thai Queen Racing Miku, and Phat!’s Rin Suzuboki. Check them all out below! [via Figure/GK]

  • MegaHouse tends to have less… inspiring festival displays than many brands. It seems like they save the majority of their announcements for either magazine scans or MegaHobby. And, one again, we have nothing ground-breaking from them. Lots of Digimon, the Pokemon figure we found out about in scans, and of course the finished Sailor Moon school outfit lines! There’s also a LOT of Bikini Warriors (boo hiss exclusives), along with a few actual new things. They will be doing Sakamichi Onoda from Yowamushi Pedal and Yamanbagiri Kunihiro from Touken Ranbu. Is EVERYONE doing one of those boys?? [via AmiAmi’s Facebook]

  • Queen’s Blade used to be MegaHouse’s bread and butter. But while other companies are still churning out high quality figures of the cast, MegaHouse kind of left them in the dust. They’re working on an on-again-off-again line for Queen’s Blade Grimorie, but what about all the original girls you didn’t do? Well, they’re back, finally! And decidedly more NSFW than before. They are, unsurprisingly, capitalizing on the recent success of Alleyne figures with a new version of her. I really… am not digging it. I’m fine with consentacles, but my lovely Alleyne looks decidedly unhappy about this predicament. Then we’ve got an already-castoff figure of Seiten the Demon Monkey Necromancer (I kid you not). This is a lot more risque than their past QB girls, so it’ll be interesting to see if they continue down this path. And bring us a new (SFW) Ymir, please. [via figure/GK

  • I’ve managed to develop some bizarre cognitive dissonance where I vehemently hate Queen’s Blade the show but adore the character designs and figures. Like, I will rant for a solid hour about how I hate what Queen’s Blade stands for, yet I own SO MANY FIGURES from it. Why? Who knows. It’s the pretty girl, I tell you. Makes it hard to think straight. I also really like fairy tales and folklore, so of course I (kind of shamefully) love Queen’s Blade Grimoire, which draws on all those things. MegaHouse has a “kind of line” going on for it which really hasn’t brought us much yet, but they’ve announced at least one more: Kaguya, the… mecha bunny samurai girl! I’m so excited that it’s embarrassing. [via saitom’s Twitter]

  • Remember Genco? Probably not, because they’re literally a brand-new company. With one figure announcement. But apparently they’re out for our money, because they suddenly have 4 figures out on display at Anime Japan! To no one’s surprise Sword Art Online features heavily: they’ll be doing swimsuit figures of Asuna and Leafa to go with the announced Yuuki. And then there’s a totally random Alleyne from Queen’s Blade. Haha, that came out of nowhere! And it seems like at the moment, Genco’s sculpting theme is “pole dancing” and I’m not too sure how I feel about that. [via Dengeki]
