Racing Miku Archive

  • Max Factory is one of my favorite companies, but they’re certainly not a super productive one. They only had a few scaled figures on hand at WonFest, but they were lovely! Like that bike racing Miku: so cute! There’s also a Luka figure if you’re all Miku’d out. Wedding Lingerie Lala is finally here, and Murakumo from KanColle is painted. We also have 3 Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata announcements (so many from them and GSC!): Utaha, Eriri, and Megumi. Oh, and there’s a surprise Devilman outta nowhere. A large portion of their display is dedicated to the small figures, like their Love Live figFIX and the model kit Plamax (Dirty Pair!). Plus we had all those Fate/Grand Order figures from earlier. [UPDATE] We have a picture of their Iowa! [via whl4u]

  • At the tail end of last year, Good Smile Company unveiled the art for Racing Miku 2017 which is designed by Tony Taka. I find myself ordering less and less every month and in fact it takes a lot for any figure to interest me now, but I am always such a sucker for the Racing Miku line… and this year looks like it will be no exception! Tony Taka, Miku, butterfly wings, soft pastel colors? Yes please. Of course we don’t just get the figure: there’s a figma and Nendoroid too! This might actually be the first time Tony’s art has been on a Nendoroid, since I can’t think of a single other. GSC was never on the Shining World hype train, after all. But oh my god does his style look adorable all chibi and fat! I hope that, unlike Snow Miku, they keep all the detail in her outfit because this could be a really spectacular Nendoroid. • I think we can all agree that 2016 sucked. But the year is almost at an end, which means a fresh start for all of us! And a fresh start for yearly figure lines, too. Usually we have to wait until Wonder Festival for the new Racing Miku, but GSC feels so bad for all of us they’re giving us a little taste of the 2017 design already. While I was quite smitten by 2016’s figure, I am even more excited for 2017’s. Because it’s Tony Taka!! Finally, dreams do come true. And it’s not just any Racing Miku, it’s a FANCY FAIRY RACING MIKU. 2017 can’t come fast enough. [via GSC Racing]

  • When we first saw Racing Miku 2016’s design, I wasn’t the biggest fan. It’s a little busier than the Racing Mikus I love, and I thought the red and blue clashed a little But I quickly changed my tune when we saw the sculpt for Good Smile Company’s figure of her, because it was so enchanting and cute! I’m just smitten with that pose and all of the detailing. She’s finally painted, and I’m even more in love. The coloring is bold and unusual, her face is adorable, and there are SO many details all over. Though some of them are a bit confusing–why is a sentient weight holding a can of Redbull? Truly a figure of many questions. She’s set for a September release and retails for ¥13,800, which is way less than I thought given her base and all the PVC her hair and umbrella need! Pre-Order At: GSC | HLJ | AmiAmi

  • Usually we see the reveal for Racing Miku’s figures around this time of year, so I was a little surprised when she didn’t end up in Good Smile’s booth. But it turns out they were just keeping her tucked away! Or rather, a figure of her–it seems like we’ll still get the standard pose one, and this is kind of a bonus. And what a bonus it is! So different from the other Racing Miku figures–an elaborate base and cute pose, plus that sculpt is to die for. [UPDATE] FREEing’s amazing new Thai Racing Miku was there as well! • We have had quite a few figmas of Racing Miku but they almost always correspond to the yearly design. But every once in a while they come up with alternate versions of her–these usually end up with scaled figures, but this time we’re getting a special figma Miku! This is the  figma Racing Miku 2015: TeamUKYO Support ver. And unlike her other versions, there’s no car this time (though really, she’s been car-less for a while, no?). It’s biking Miku! Ready to hit the streets like the speed demon she is. Though wouldn’t that hair kind of be a huge determent to racing? She retails for ¥7,222 and you can snag one right here. Orders close July 27th!

  • While I was pretty excited for the theme of Racing Miku 2016 (flames, oh my!), I was not head over heels for her actual design reveal. It was cute, but I definitely like some of the past Racing Mikus a lot better. However, I am a sucker for the Racing theme in general and unless the figure & Nendoroid were outright terrible, I knew I was going to buy them. Well, orders are open… but it’s still kind of hard to judge, because we have the sculpt and a painted mockup… but no painted pictures. Um. GSC. How am I supposed to make this decision? I mean, the sculpt looks great. But she’s not cheap (packages range from ¥8,000 to ¥70,000) and I do like to, you know, see the figure before I purchase it. Orders are open right now and stay open until May 13th, so you do have quite a while to decide, but the sculpt really is adorable.

  • The tradition of a new yearly Racing Miku design is one of my favorites. Look through some of the past ones and you can see a great variety and creativity: 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 all have something to offer. And while we all have our favorites (2014 <3) and least favorites (2013, ehhh), I’m always excited about a new one! Plus now we have all the spinoff Racing Mikus, like Thailand Miku 1 and 2, and EV Mirai. We knew that the theme this year was flames, so how did it turn out? Well, to be honest, I’m not 100% sure how I feel about this design. I do love how colorful it is, and the hair ombre is gorgeous. But I’m not really sold on the face or art style, and the pose is a little bland for my taste. Then again, the final figures are hardly ever in the art pose at this point, so hopefully GSC comes up with something a little more creative! I think this is a design that will look a lot better in 3D with some gorgeous coloring and clear PVC than it does here. [via Kahotan]

  • When Racing Miku 2015 went up for order, I lamented the lack of detailed images of her. We only got the promotional shots on Kahotan’s blog, and I wanted more! Because I’m kind of obsessed with this figure. I love basically everything about it. And while I wait the long, long months until her release, I need more images to tide me over. Well, it’s a little late, but they’re finally here! And she looks even better than the promotional images (though I think a lot of that is how color saturated these ones are). We get a closer look at a lot of her details, including the base which is actually pretty nice and I didn’t even notice the first time around. [via Kahotan]

  • I am an unabashed lover of Racing Miku in all of her endless variations. Thai Racing Miku? All about it. EV Mirai? Have her on order! I was head over heels for the 2015 design: I mean, how could I resist? Her twintail design is particularly gorgeous here, plus we get a tiara and ruffles! It’s basically my dream Racing Miku (though 2014 will always be #1 of my heart). Of course I was really looking forward to Good Smile Company’ figure of her. They’re always amazing, and this year’s is no exception! The pose is so cute and much more playful than what we usually get, and her face looks SO good. Plus that hair ombre! I do wish we’d gotten some actual photos from Kahotan instead of the stock images because I’d love to see what all that clear PVC looks like under direct light. And while with that flag this is an absolutely massive, she comes in at only ¥13,800, which is downright cheap in today’s market! Orders open tonight. [via Kahotan]
