Ranka Lee Archive

  • I was thrilled when Volks announced that they would (finally) be doing Dollfie Dreams of Ranka & Sheryl… especially since it’s a double release revealed in mid-fall. You know who else were just like that? Extra & Alter and KOS-MOS & Momo! Yeah, so there was a high probability of them being pre-order dolls. And indeed it’s been confirmed, with orders tentatively slated for November! This is great news because I am totally in love with Sheryl. I love the DDs with more defined noses, and her faceup is beautiful. While I am not 100% sold on Ranka that’s just because the big eyes aren’t always for me, but oh my god the lightning bolt shoes. I think I need both of them. [via the DD Twitter]

  • It has been a while since I was really interested in a Dollfie Dream release (except, of course, for Ranko, who I did not win and we don’t speak of). This is mostly because… well, Stephen and I just have too many Dollfies and we need to stop buying them. Which means nipping DD lust in the bud and not getting excited about releases. But I think that is about to change, because Volks is FINALLY doing some Macross Dollfies. Sheryl and Ranka (who I am guessing will be on a DDS body)! If they nail Sheryl’s face I just know I won’t be able to resist her: I’m a big fan of their prominent sculpted noses (KOS-MOS, Rise, Alna, etc). [via Satottoro’s Twitter]

  • I’m honestly shocked that it took Good Smile Company so long to add the Macross Frontier girls to their Nendoroid line. I mean Sheryl and Ranka have both proven to have longevity in the figure world–just look at the aftermarket prices on any one of their Ichiban Kujis! So of course fans where thrilled when both girls were announced at Winter Wonder Festival, but personally I was a bit let down by the finished Sheryl. She just didn’t have the panache I was expecting, but Ranka is my favorite of the two so I was hoping she’d come out a bit better. Thankfully, I think they managed to pull off a real charmer this time around! Her ~Kira~ pose alone makes her worth the buy, but she also has an assortment of adorable faces, a microphone, and a stage base. I do wish she had a few more accessories since, essentially, she has one… which compared to some recent girls like Nana and Yukari is kind of pathetic. She’ll be going up for order on the 17th, but I doubt this is the last we’ll see of these two… I sense a whole lot of other outfits and versions in GSC’s future. [via Mikatan]

  • Another month, another round of magazine scans! Like clockwork, it’s that time again. This time we’ve got a whole lot of Tony Taka for you guys, which makes me a very happy camper. Heck, every figure release in the world could be Tony Taka and I’d be pleased. Of course we’ve got other things: Devil Survivor, Fate/Stay Night, Miku, the inevitable Cattleya, figmas, Nendoroids… and not a boy in sight! So check them all out below.

  • I have officially overdosed on Nendoroids. Do you know how many there were at Wonder Festival? 38. THIRTY FREAKING EIGHT. Over 40, counting the petits. So we’re just going to dive right in: all of the teasers are here, Chariot, Monokuma (and his pink counterpart Monomi), Hitagi, Shizue, Sheryl (and a matching Ranka), Tsukiko (petit and full sized), Rin Natsume and Darth Wooser. As far as BRS goes, we also have a full Strength and Petits of BRS herself, Strength, Black Gold Saw and Chariot. The next Touhou Nenodoroid is Aya Shameimaru, and unsurprisingly Akane Isshiki will be getting a full Nendoroid and a Petit along with Rei Kuroki. Nozomu Itoshiki is getting a second version, which seems a little weird! Then we have Inia and Cryska from Muv-Luv, a new set of Vocaloid petits, Sasami Tsukuyomi, Misaka Mikoto, Charles Yoshino, Tooka Yagotami, Cecilia Alcott, Akane Tsunemori, Maou, Tia, Amy, Ricca Morizono, Miyuki Takano, Alice Kuji, a petit of Rachel Alucard, more Nanoha and Aegis. PHEW! Check them all out in the gallery. [via GSC]

  • To wrap up our Tamashii Nations coverage, we’ve got the scaled side of things! Bandai really focuses more on action figures, but they do put out a few cheaper, smaller-scale pre-painted figures in their Figuarts ZERO line. We’ve got all the teased Magi – Labyrinth of Magi Figuarts (and more!): Aladdin, Sinbad, Alibaba Saluja, Judai, and Morgiana. There’s also a Half-Age Character line in the shot you can see! There’s a few other assorted figures, many of which we saw at Dengeki’s 20th like the Senran Kagura girls. However, we have a new addition too: the lovely Yumi from Shinovi Versus! Last, we’ve got a red recolor of their adorable Ranka Lee to go with that blue Sheryl. [via Charanet’s Facebook]

  • Ah, May. The birds are singing, the flowers are blooming, the figure boxes are coming in non-stop. I’ll admit that I haven’t been totally thrilled with the loot from some of the past few months and found it rather heavy on Nendoroids and figmas. May definitely changed my tune with a whopping 18 scaled figures, as well as of course some poseable goodies and four (very) large doll arrivals. Hit the jump to check it out!

  • It seems like this is Macross Frontier week, because right after the announcement of some prize figures from Banpresto, Bandai posted the official shots of their Wish of Valkrie Ranka Lee! The matching Sheryl went up for order a while ago, and now it’s Ranka’s turn. I really love her outfit, especially the use of clear PVC which will always win me over. Ranka stands at about 6.3″ tall, putting her around 1/10 scale. She retails for ¥4,725, a little bit more than Sheryl, and will be released in May. I think these two will make a lovely set once released–the matching poses are a nice touch. And if these are successful, I am sure Bandai will make some other versions of them for the Figuarts Zero line! [via Bandai]

  • It seems like most Macross Frontier figures are part of Banpresto’s Ichiban Kuji line, and thus incredibly hard to get for a decent price. However, it seems like they have heard the pleas of collectors and are doing a run of standard DX prizes of the heroines Ranka Lee and Sheryl Nome! These are the White & Brownie versions, and it seems like they paid a lot more attention to Ranka on this set. While the sculpting on Sheryl seems only so-so, Ranka really stands out and looks adorable! They are set for a May release, so orders should go up soon. Between this and the Figuarts Zero renditions of the girls, it seems like it’s going to be a lot easier for fans of the show to obtain some reasonably priced merchandise. [via Bandai]

  • Macross Frontier has about a million different outfits for its heroines, especially now that the movie is out. So why is it that the only figures we really get of them are either smaller figures or Ichiban Kuji? This makes absolutely no sense to me, as surely 1/8 or larger scale figures would sell well–and we do known that MegaHouse has the licensing. But could you imagine an Orchid Seed Nurse Sheryl? Hnnnng. Anyway, Ichiban Kuji has shown off their newest (and amazing) Macross set, predominantly featuring Sheryl and Ranka in some of their best concert outfits. I am in love with this Ranka, but she will be hard to get! The alternate colorway isn’t really for me, as the black looks too morbid for this cheerful outfit. Sheryl looks great too, especially those boots! That’s not all that is part of this set, as you can also get pillows, cups, pens, and minifigures. Of course you have to live in Japan and enter the lottery, but these are usually pretty easy to find on the aftermarket if you’re willing to cough up the high asking prices. [via Akibahobby]
