Red XIII Archive

  • I feel like it’s very strange that we continue to get figures from a 9-year-old movie that’s based on a 17-year-old game. I mean, yeah, Cloud is still popular. Sephiroth is still popular. You know what people actually want? For you to redo FFVII in glorious technicolor. But, hey, apparently that isn’t happening right now. But more Cloud Play Arts are! I know, right? We just don’t have enough of those. There’s also a Red XIII, who I will never complain about. Because when it comes to cat-related things, I am a terrible hypocrite.

  • You know, Square-Enix is always pumping out a ton of Final Fantasy merchandise but it always seems to be from VII, X, IV, VI, or that random fighting one. Never from my precious baby because people don’t like it and they have terrible taste while I sob in the corner over no Fran merchandise. But finally dark days are over. I’ve been waiting for this moment, and it is HERE. JUST LOOK. FRAN PLAY-ARTS. I’M GONNA DIE HAPPY. And there was some other stuff too like Cloud, Tifa, Red XIII, and Barret or whatever. I mean, Red XIII is my home(liondog) and it’s cool to see Barret getting some representation but WHATEVER FRAN I’M JUST GONNA DANCE AROUND MY APARTMENT ALL DAY [via Jeff Saylor]

  • Square-Enix has started branching out recently when it comes to their merchandise, and is doing a lot more from comics and movies. But of course they haven’t abandoned their bread and butter: Final Fantasy! Because admit it, that’s what everyone wants, even if it’s a million variations of the same character *cough*Lightning*cough* They just showed off pretty much every FF figure they have in the works, and it’s kind of staggering. Let’s start small: we’ve got some adorable FFVII chibi trading figures! Aww, chibi Cloud. He almost has an emotion! Of course the Play-Arts are where it’s at, and they have a ton. Most importantly (to me) are the Yuna & Tidus Play-Arts from Final Fantasy X: the timing is perfect, since we should be getting the HD remake soon and I’m bouncing off the walls with anticipation. We’ve also got yet another Lightning, this time from Lightning Returns (real creative with the naming). Then there’s the shockingly awesome Bahamut (more summon Play-Arts, please!), Kain Highwind from IV, the Warrior of Light from the series’ inception, and a lovely looking Red XIII in his Advent Children look. • Red XIII (or Nanaki, if you prefer) is one of my favorite video game characters. He’s definitely an oddity in the rpg world: yeah, there are a lot of talking animals in games (almost too many), but most of them are cuddly and cute, not semi-genius spirit animals who are decades old but are actually adolescents and oh also part of a dying race. Anyway, Red XIII has one real figure: a Play-Arts Kai that is not of the best quality and is notoriously hard to find. Well thankfully it seems like Square-Enix is reviving him into a sparkly new body based on his Advent Children design. Hooray! Of course I would much prefer a scaled figure but this is Square we are talking about so this is the best we could possibly hope for–and I am happy about it! [via Hidemi Matsuzuka’s Twitter]
