Rin Shibuya Archive

  • Alter has always been my favorite figure manufacturer, and while there have been times my heart was swayed by others (Max Factory! AlphaMax! Orchid Seed!), I come back to them time and time again because of their consistent quality and unique sculpts. And once again they brought it in force to MegaHobby with a variety of gorgeous sculpts, painted figures, and new announcements. Of course there were a few from their IDOLM@STER line: their Rin Shibuya (who looks basically identical to the GSC one, let’s be honest) is painted, and they brought out the sculpt for their perfect winged Ranko who I love with all my heart. And the boys were out in force! Rei and Ritsu Sakuma from Ensemble Stars!, Cecil Aijima from Uta no☆Prince-sama♪, Haruka Nanase and Tachibana Mako from Free!, and an announcement for 3 new Free! boys: Sousuke Yamazaki, Nagisa Hazuki, and Rei Ryuugazaki. Plus the brand-new Dio Eraclea from Last Exile. They also had a beautiful 1/6 scale figure of Takao, the cheesy but appealing Santa Saber Alter, Ikumi Mito finally sculpted, Lala Deviluke in a maid outfit, Plachta from the Atelier games, and two new announcements: Hikari Karibuchi from Brave Witches and Okoi from Oboro Muramasa! • Most shows do not get mini-events where the figures on display are 99% from it. But somehow, IDOLM@STER consistently does! Probably because every company under the sun has made at least one of the girls, so there is always a lot of news. And this event is no exception. There was so much on display! Alpha x Omega’s Nao Kamiya, Rin Shibuya, and Karen Houjou trio is painted, as is Alter’s Love Laika set of Minami Nitta, Ranko Kanzaki, and Anastasia. Alter also had two new announcements: Uzuki Shimamura and Shiki Ichinose. Oh, and the sculpt for Sachiko Koshimizu on display. Alter, calm down! Wave, a company that’s very much fallen out of popularity, was on hand with a few girls. Mika Jougasaki is painted, and they had a sculpt for swimsuit Ranko along with the announcement for a Beach Queen Nitta. Last but not least, Kotobukiya brought a few girls! They had a surprise sculpt for Yuki Himekawa along with an announcement for Cu-Poche Kaede Takagaki. [UPDATE] Added two of Phat’s figures! [via whitenoize & figsoku]

  • I have this weird dichotomy where I can’t stand to watch any of the multitude of idol-related shows out there, but I’m kind of obsessed with all the figures. Why? Truly it is a mystery. I am especially fond of Phat! Company’s line, with the Cinderella Girls being my favorite. So of course I’ve been really looking forward to their figure of Rin Shibuya, which has two of my favorite things: casual, reasonable clothing a human might actually wear and a really cool & inventive pose. We’ve got Rin kind of side-floating in the air with her shoes next to her–just like Cinderella! And she even has a blue dress to match. And like this whole line, she’s reasonably priced: only ¥9,800, which is impressive given her detail and elaborate posing. Her release date is October, and I can’t wait to see this cutie in person! • You know what we need right before MegaHobby? Another figure event! What is up with how many we’ve had this fall? This time it’s one dedicated only to IDOLM@STER, and there were a LOT of figures at it. Wave, surprisingly, is making non-Beach Queens figures of some of the Cinderella Girls: sculpts for Kaede Takagaki and Miku Maekawa appeared, along with announcements for Rika Jougasaki, Miria Akagi, and Kirari Moroboshi. We’re also getting another Dollfie Dream from Volks: Rin Shibuya! Kotobukiya joined the party with the sculpt for Kaede Takagaki and an announcement for Nana Abe. Good Smile Company & Co had, of course, the most updates. Phat! Company had many of their girls, along with a brand new sculpt of Rin Shibuya. The Love Laika version of Anastasia, which just went up for order, was painted, along with the matching Minami Nitta. Good Smile’s Crystal Night Party figure of Uzuki Shimamura is sculpted, and we have figmas of Rika and Mika Jougasaki based on their anime appearance. Then we have Alter! First, three announcements from their Alpha x Omega collaboration: Rin Shibuya, Karen Houjou, and Nao Kamiya. They also showed off the amazing sculpts for Riina Tada and Miku Maekawa. Phew, that’s a lot of idols! [via taka humo, kuroneko_r, and kahotan]

  • Good Smile is kind of the big boss of the figure world. They have tons of other sister companies, and seem to be absorbing more every day. Yet surprisingly, they take on less figures than companies like Max Factory. But of course they still had a lot to show off at WonFest! Including, of course, some Mikus. Two, in fact. There’s the more traditional Miku from the teasers, and then the gorgeous 2015 Racing Miku. Sabers? They got two! The Huke ver. Saber Alter (still unpainted) and a new Saber Bride. Kantai Collection? Of course! We are finally getting a figure of Bismark and Prinz Eugen as well. Plus an announcement for Yuudachi! Other random girls? Their Erina Nakiri and Eriri Spencer Sawamura both got updates. And then we have announcements. A LOT of announcements. We’re getting more IM@S Cinderella girls: Mio Honda, Uzuki Shimamura, and Rin Shibuya. Again, instead of doing… different girls? I guess? We’ll also be getting Megumi Katou from Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata, Alisa from God Eater, and Masami Utoku & Kuniko Shigyou from The Rolling Girls. [via GSC & Akibahobby]

  • We’re a little over a month away from Summer Wonder Festival–so it might seem a little early to start doing any teasing or revealing, but I guess it’s not for Good Smile Company and co because they just unveiled the full lineup of their exclusives! I tend to find their Summer offerings a lot more boring than the Winter ones and this year is no exception: I actually only like one of the figures (and it’s from a show I hate, go figure). So let’s start with the plus: we’re getting that Fight Club version of Mako Mankanshoku which was shown off at Winter WonFest. She’s so cute and the alt faces are amazing! You can snag her for ¥4,167. We’ll also be getting the cheerleader Nendoroid More bodies, which are a mere ¥833 per blind box: but of course you can get a whole case of them! Then there’s a lot of IM@S Cinderella Girls. We have a Nendoroid set, full sized, of Rin, Uzuki, and mom-hair Mio (why is she so popular?! argh) in super cute stage outfits (FINALLY), but they have zero accessories which kind of blows. The set of three will run you ¥6,019. Then we have figmas of Rin and Uzuki that make me want to throw things. Because instead of cute stage outfits, it’s… jogging gear. WHY? These will be ¥4,630 each. These will be at the event, but online orders will open July 26th and run until August 3rd. Are you interested in any of these girls? [via the Wonderful Hobby Life site]

  • I’m certainly happy that GSC & co are suddenly making all these IM@S figures, but what took them so long? It seems like they were just lying in wait for Cinderella Girls, but they’ve been making figures of the original cast too. Well, whatever the reason, it’s certainly a boon for IM@S fans. And after the Petit sets, we’re finally getting some full-sized Nendos! First up is Rin Shubuya. I have to admit that I’m wildly disappointed that the Nendos & figmas are all in casual outfits. I want fancy stage versions, dammit! But Rin still is very cute, especially her alternate crying & happy faces. And she comes with some cute accessories like an ipod & headphones and her backpack. And, like always, there’s a GSC online shop exclusive bonus: a… can of soda! Orders open tonight. [via Kahotan]

  • We’ve already showed off two figma announcements thus far, Yami Yugi from Yu-Gi-Oh! (which WILL also get a Dark Magician Girl figma, thanks for the heads up Germaniac!) and the Magic Knight Rayearth announcement. Just like Nendoroids, most of what the Good Smile Company umbrella seems to bring anymore are smaller cheaper figures they can sell a veritable buttload of, so while Good Smile Company has a handle on all things chibi with Nendoroids, Max Factory is taking care of all of our poseable needs with over 30 new figmas. Up in the header we’ve got the newest Racing Miku design for 2015 that looks like all of the other ones, but with some new gradients and more clear plastic on her, the protagonist from Persona 4, who looks badass as all hell, and Rin Tohsaka from Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works. We’ve also got an announcement of Emiya Shirou, also from Unlimited Blade Works (who in the world actually WANTS this?), Angela Balzac from Expelled From Paradise, new versions of Asuna, Kirito, and Leafa from Sword Art Online II, Haruna and Takao from Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova, Conan from Mirai Shounen Conan, Holmes from Meitantei Holmes (who is awesome), an Iron Man mark XXI (because people totally asked for this…), Kiryuu Kazama from Ryuu ga Gotoku, R. Tanaka Ichirou from Kyuukyoku Choujin R, and Iona from Gekijouban Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova DC. Yeah, lots of characters from things people don’t really know yet again. Then in generic moe girl land, I mean, iDOLM@STER and Love Live land, we’ve got enough tiny girls to keep you happy forever. On the iDOLM@STER side of things we’ve got Rin Shibuya, Uzuki Shimamura, and Mio Honda. Then for Love Live we’ve got nine new figmas: Ayase Eri, Hoshizora Rin, Koizumi Hanayo, Kousaka Honoka, Minami Kotori, Nishikino Maki, Sonada Umi, Toujou Nozomi, and Yazawa Niko. Anyone else think their names sound like sushi rolls? Because I sure do between Umi, Maki, and Nozomi. Like your moe girls with a bit of mechanical doohickeys attached to them? No problem! You’re still covered! Anthropomorphic Ship Girls –I mean– Kantai Collection has some new additions with Kitakami and Yukikaze. More a fan of Anthropomorphic Plane Girls? We’ve got Yoshika and Mio Sakamoto from Strike Witches. Just a fan of robots in general? Tsugumori and the Type 18 Guardian from Knights of Sidonia have you covered. Last, but not least, we’ve got more goofiness as The Thinker and Venus de Milo have popped up again in figma form. Will these ever see the light of day? Who knows! But we’ve got enough to tide us over until their eventual release with a little bit of everything. [via Wonderful Hobby Life For You and Dengeki Hobby]

  • While IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls has been quite popular in the figure world recently, getting dolls and awesome figures from Phat! and Good Smile, the upcoming anime is stoking the flames. Which means… yes, more merchandise! A LOT more. We have 8 announcements in total for today. Let’s start with the least surprising: Volks is expanding their Cinderella Girls Dollfie line with Mio Honda and Uzuki Shimamura. I am hoping these are rough drafts because they don’t look so hot. Then we have tons of stuff from GSC & Co! We have a sculpt for Nendoroid Rin Shibuya, and announcements for two more: funnily enough, it’s Mio Honda and Uzuki Shimamura, the two getting Dollfies. Then there are three (!!) figma announcements: guess who they are. It’s easy, the only three girls we’ve mentioned are also getting figmas. Mio, Uzuki & Rin sure are popular today. • When Volks announced a Dollfie Dream Sister of Ranko Kanzaki and showed off Rin Shibuya, my heart was all aflutter. I’ve really been trying to stay out of the DD game, mostly because of space issues–they’re just SO BIG. Also DD clothing is insanely expensive. But I think Ranko might make me break down–I mean, I even skipped Miku, but something about Ranko is just too beautiful. Plus, her stage outfit is the best thing ever. Rin is quite lovely as well, though I don’t feel that tug of “GOTTA OWN RIGHT NOW.” She does remind me a little bit of Miki Hoshii, my DD holy grail, but two dolls at once is just too many! Her stage outfit though… will probably stain like crazy. Dolpa 31 takes place on May 5th, and the international lottery will start soon after. Are any of you Plastikitties planning on entering?
