Rozen Maiden Archive

Did you think that Griffon Enterprises had gone the way of the dinosaurs (and Taki Corp)? So did everyone else. It’s been ages since they actually did anything, and many of their in-production figures (like the damn goldfish action figure I had on order for 2 years!!) were simply cancelled or left in limbo. But apparently they were just hibernating, because they’re back with totally new branding!
They showed off two new lines, which really just seems like a way of re-branding their image. The first, Bishojo Tairiku, is their art-based 18+ line (kind of like what Native and AlphaMax does), featuring art by Kizuki Aruchu, Koutaro, Watanabe Yoshihiro, and more! The second, Grand Toys, features more traditional licenses like Cutie Honey, Super Sonico, Highschool DxD, and Silent Möbius. They’ve also revived a few Date A Live and Rozen Maiden figures I thought were long gone! I know Griffon has been a spotty company but they’ve made quite a few very nice figures, so I hope this works out well for them.

What is up with Griffon recently? It’s kind of a mess over there, I guess. Their quality has gone up and they’ve actually made some very nice figures recently (Alleyne, Charlotte, Cecilia), but most of their announced figures are totally stagnant. This is sadly super clear at Miyazawa Model, where they brought art… for figures that have been in the art stage for over a year.
It’s kind of sad, because honestly I want the Date A Live girls if they come out as nice as Griffon’s recent offerings. But the few sculpted figures they DID bring look kind of horrible. They’ve always been hit-or-miss, but this event was particularly telling. I’m hoping we see some improvements soon…

If there is a current show or franchise you enjoy that’s popular, you can almost always bet that Griffon has something in the works for it. Whether it will actually be good… well, that’s another story. Some of their figures at CharaHobby (that Kirino!) look amazing, others… not so much.
We’ve got Sword Art Online, OreImo, Queen’s Blade, Persona, Date A Live, Rozen Maiden, Shining Blade, Sonico, Infinite Stratos, Dead or Alive, Highschool DxD, Kikou Shoujo wa Kizutsukanai, To Aru Kagaku no Railgun, Girls und Panzer, Kikou Shoujo wa Kizutsukanai and more in the gallery below!

You know, we rarely get a “themed” display from a company so for this, you really have to give Griffon credit. Pretty much all their figures have their butts up in the air. Some of them have their butts facing towards the viewer, but some have butts facing away. Genius! We’ve got Cattleya (side butt) and Alleyne (butt in back) from Queen’s Blade, Tsukiko Tsutsukakushi (butt in front), Frey from Kikou Shoujo wa Kizutsukanai (butt in back, bonus boobs on chair), and Leafa (butt in back) & Asuna (all the butt & boobs everywhere). Charlotte is on her knees but almost halfway upright!
But some figures actually aren’t kneeling at all! Their giant Kirino is standing, as is giant Kasumi. Sinon is kind of jump-standing, and both of the Shining girls (Sakuya in her autumn-themed outfit and evil robot Xecty aka Kerberos) are totally upright. Then there’s the lone boy person in pants, Souseiseki, but watch out–he’s got scissors to cut some legs off if he feels there aren’t enough kneeling girls around.
Then there’s some Sword Art Online Nanoricchi but who really cares

It’s that time of the month! Good Smile Company is giving us a peek at some upcoming goodies, and this is one of the most exciting previews we’ve had in a while! If you’re a fan of scaled figures, that is, because there wasn’t a whole lot of Nendo-figma action going on. In fact there was only one figma (Uno Uzume, who we just saw in scans) and a single Nendoroid (Suigintou). There were other Nendos & figmas there but they were either 1) already up for order or 2) images we’ve already seen.
But man oh man do we have some juicy scaled figure news. Phat! Company’s Miki Hoshii is painted (and utter perfection), but that’s not the only IDOLM@STER news–their lovely Sachiko Koshimizu popped up as well with a base that’s just freaking awesome. Last but certainly not least, it’s Good Smile Company’s Wo-Class (who happens to be my favorite KanColle girl!). Ahh, so pretty.

Ah, Griffon. The company that constantly announces figures I’m sure I want, but a combination of terrible faces, high prices and release dates perpetually keep me away. It didn’t used to be like this: when their main focus was on the Touhou girls everything was delayed all the time. It was great. But anyway, let’s get into what they brought to Treasure Festa this year!
We’ve got Nanoricchi out the ears: pretty much the entire cast of Sword Art Online (and a scale for Sinon), tons of new Touhou girls, lots of Date A Live (including Nanoricchi and scales of Kaguya Yamai, Yuzura Yamai, Origami Tobiichi, and Kurumi Tokisake in a swimsuit), and parka Soniko is painted! For scales we have the GIANT Aegis, who looks surprisingly good, and the rough outline for giant Soniko, and art for their Infinite Stratos girls. Onto new announcements we’ve got a lovely sculpt of Nanana Ryuugajou from Ryuugajou Nanana no Maizoukin, moe Nyarlathotep, two figures of Tsukiko Tsutsukakushi, and Kirito from Sword Art Online. What, Griffon doing a male figure?! There’s even more to be seen as well, so check it all out in the gallery!

AW YIS. Mutha. Fuckin. Goldfish. I AM SO EXCITED FOR GRANDE ROSSO. In fact, there’s a surprising amount here I am excited for. Griffon is really switching gears over from “tons of crappy scaled figures” to “less scaled figures and a million Nanoricchi that people will actually buy.”
For example, there’s a ton of Persona gals (MITSURU AHH & Labrys, to go with the already-sculpted Aegis & Elizabeth), Leafa from SAO, Touhou Project (Youmu Konpaku, Kasen Ibaraki, Eirin Yagokoro), their adorable Soniko, Yaya from Kikou Shoujo wa Kizutsukanai and Hozuki Ferrari.
As for scaled figures? Well, there aren’t many, and the ones they do have actually look really nice. There’s the giant Kirino, art for the giant Kuroneko, an announcement for Infinite Stratos figures & Azusa Azuki from Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko, and a surprisingly gorgeous Hina Ichigo. All in all, I’m… actually looking forward to a lot of Griffon figures!

It’s been a long time since we had a messy batch of scans. In fact I’d almost forgotten what it was like to get terrible cellphone shots with half the page bent inward instead of the usual neat, flat scans–which of course means it’s the perfect time for it to happen again! Seriously, these scans suck. Also there are like… no good figures in them. We’ve got Kotobukiya’s Leafa, who we’ve seen, Belphegor who is another sculpt we’ve seen…, and AlphaMax’s Viola. That’s pretty much it for the excitement quota.
But of course there are other figures! FREEing has their Kono Naka ni Hitori, Imouto ga Iru! line painted, and Amakuni’s Aisha is getting a repaint. There are tons of Yamato ladies from MegaHouse and they’ve added Takane as their next IDOLM@STER girl, and there’s the Charles D’Artagnan from Queen’s Gate who is so horribly tacky I want to cry. MegaHouse also showed off their Amy, and we’ve got figma Chihaya and two new Ultraseven/Ultraman figures from Plex: Metron Seijin and Zetton.
We’ve also got some pretty big news from Griffon: they’ll be working on a large chunk of the cast from Rozen Maiden! Shinku, Hina Ichigo, Suigintou, Kanaria, Suiseseki, Souseiseki, and Kirakishou will ALL be getting figures. I feel like they’ve found something to replace the Touhou line…

Rozen Maiden may have a loyal fanbase, but it has not really gotten a whole lot of love in the figure world. Needless to say, it was quite the shock when Good Smile announced a Nendoroid from the series at Wonder Festival! I love the dramatic gothic costumes from Rozen Maiden so I’ve been excited to see how they’d turn out.
Now we’re getting a peek at Shinku colored, and she is SO CUTE. Ahh, any Nendoroid drinking tea is an instant sell to me, but add in twintails and ruffles and frills and I am so sold. Plus she has like a huge suitcase… wonder how much they’ll charge for that.
