Ryuuko Matoi Archive

  • At any event they attend, Good Smile Company and their numerous umbrella companies always steal the show. How can they not, with so much firepower? Of course Nendoroids were right at the forefront. Megumin, Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke, lots of KanColle (Hatsuzuki, Kiso, Pola), Caster Extra, Hajime Iwaizumi, and Boba Fett all made an appearance. And of course figmas too! We had Takao, Iowa, and Mumei on display. Max Factory brought their new To LOVEru girl, Yuuki Mikan, and we had FREEing’s bunny Ryuuko Matoi. Last but not least, there’s Phat!’s Parform Hikari Karibuchi and Saber. [UPDATE] Added a few stray figures! [UPDATE 2] Added one last announcement: 22 Niang and 33 Niang from Bilibili! • Good Smile always gives away a lot in their teasers: too much, in my opinion. I want some surprises! But it seems like they’ve toned it down juuust a bit this year, because while there are a lot of teasers only two of them are new. And both are Nendoroids! GSC will be making Nendos of Angela Balzac and Celty. I am so excited for a Celty Nendoroid! Then there’s the “things we already knew about” teasers: that crazy Ryuuko is painted, as is the dementedly cute Stormtrooper Nendoroid, the Ars Nova Kirishima and 3 of the PriPara girls. As for sculpts, the long-awaited Kiss-Shot will be making an appearance. I guess she’s not cancelled so that’s good news. Last but not least the Nendoroids of Uzuki Shimamura and Ryuujou will be making an appearance. I wonder if they have a new scaled Miku tucked away too? [via Kahotan]

  • Ryuuko Matoi, heroine of Kill la Kill, is quite a popular gal, so much so that it seems she warrants two Real Action Hero figures! Many voiced dislike of the first Senketsu Kamui version, which looked really… odd…, but it seems that Medicom was listening as now we have a Real Action Hero of Ryuuko in her regular outfit. I’ve gotta say, I’m really liking how this came out. The cloth outfit is great and her expression is spot on. I’m personally really happy with this second version and just may have to order her, but what do you think Plastikitties? Does this fulfill all of your wishes and desires? • Good Smile used to be pretty much the king of the scaled figure world, but with the focus shifting more and more to Nendoroids they seem to be making less and less scaled PVC. But, of course, they haven’t cut it all out! We have lots of goodies to show you, besides the Levi and Mikus we’ve already featured. There’s some Madoka goodies: art for the Momoe Nagisa figure, and a new Homura to go with their recent art-style Madoka! There’s more of the Saber Sakura sculpt, a kickass new Ryuuko Matoi and the announcement for a matching (possibly?) Satsuki, the sculpt for their bikini Soniko, the creepy Terra Formars girl, and the announcement of Niko Yazawa from Love Live! [UPDATE] Added Sawamura Supensaa Eriri from Saenai hiroin no Sodatekata. What a long name. [UPDATE 2] Added a sculpt for Kurumi Tokisaki (Kurumi is from AlphaMax, sorry for the confusion!) and the announcement for.. brace yourselves… DARK MAGICIAN GIRL. [via whl4u]

  • If you are surprised at the fact that there are quite a few Kill la Kill garage kits making an appearance at Wonder Festival this summer… well, you probably haven’t been paying attention to figure trends at all. In fact, I’m kind of surprised at how few there are! Of course we have quite a few, but most of the focus is on Ryuuko with only a handful of Satsukis and one lone Mako. Oh, and THE CUTEST GUTS. Seriously, I want it so bad. [via Odeya, fg-site, Iwayura Extra, Figureneet]

  • You may have noticed some radio silence from Plastikitty over the weekend–that is because we were in a forest where no internet could reach us. It was a nice break, but of course we came back to some news to catch up on! First and foremost (and, okay, kind of only), are a bunch of new RAHs that Medicom has just shown off. As you can see in the header, they are (surprise!) expanding their Kill la Kill line to include (of course) Satsuki and, more surprisingly, uniform Ryuuko! We are also getting a school uniform Homura with her braids, new Daft Punk RAHs, and Eva Unit-13. Cause, you know, there just weren’t enough Evangelion RAHs already! [via Hobbylog]

  • Some designs are just meant for figma versions. Characters that are fully clothed and don’t have exposed areas of flesh that lend themselves to weird under-bust gaps. It looks weird no matter the gender, and while Ryuuko’s figma certainly has a lot of pizazz going on I am so distracted by the boob joint. It’s so weird. I have to say, I am very surprised they chose this outfit for the figma and her school one for the Nendoroid: a swap seems like it would fix some design issues, no? But in any case, here she is, looking like she has a gaping chest wound. The design almost translates perfectly, and they have put a lot of effort into her poseability (pivoting thighs, stretchy straps). Also, her sword! I am tempted to her her just so I can use it for my other figmas. She will retail for ¥4,800 and goes up for order tonight with Nendoroid Mako. [via the figma blog]

  • It has been a while since we have covered a full NicoNico broadcast from Good Smile on the site! Mainly because only one or two items of interest pop up at a time, but this month there are tons of Nendoroid goodies–almost all of them Nendoroid-related. In fact, we have three new painted Nendo prototypes: Gilgamesh and Rin Tohsaka from Fate/Stay Night and Miss Monochrome! Ryuuko Matoi’s Nendo popped up as well, though she is already up for order, along with the figma version which is looking awesome. We are also going to be getting some new additions to the Nendorid More line: no reveals yet, but it seems like they might be faces! [via 2chan]

  • Why is it that whenever a Beach Queen sculpt is actually good–which, as we all know, is a pretty rare occurrence–it’s of a character I don’t like? We get Beach Queens from Devil Survivor 2, and they are awful. But of course the Kill la Kill one is perfect. I had a sinking feeling when we saw the sculpt that she would be magnificent, but now we are getting a peek at the painted version, and… ugh LOOK AT HOW PRETTY HER FACE IS. What gives, Wave?! If you are capable of this level of quality, why are 1/10ths of your figures so shitty?! It drives me insane. I don’t want Ryuuko. Or rather, I don’t want to want Ryuuko. But now I do because she’s so beautiful. And if you are a huge Kill la Kill fan she will have a second exclusive version with bonus Scissors Blade. Totally… uh, not worth it, unless you are the world’s biggest fan. [via Wave’s Blog]

  • At Wonder Festival we found out that Medicom would be adding Kill la Kill’s Ryuuko Matoi to their Real Action Hero line, which was a bit of a surprise given how much skin her outfit shows off. Medicom tends to stick to fully clothed characters in order to hide the joints: Evangelion characters, Link, or the Attack on Titan line for example. But given how hard Kill la Kill is getting pushed (Nendoroid, figma, & scaled figure already!) and the fact that Medicom now teams up with GSC, I guess it’s no big surprise. She went up for order a while back and many were daunted at her sky-high price, but we’ve got some detail shots that show she might be worth it… if you can get over the weird curve on the outfit straps and the seams on her torso.
