  • Bandai has given us a lot of Pokemon S.H.Figaurts in the past, but they have all been of the actual ‘mons and not the human characters. An odd decision, considering how much easier it is to articulate a human than a giant lizard! But the day has finally come when we get Ash & co. Or at least Ash, Jessie, and James. Weird combo to start out with, but I can dig it. Ash comes with, of course, Pikachu, and Jessie & James have Meowth. The accessories are minimal (this is Bandai we’re talking about), but still cute–like the dizzy face for Meowth! There is an exclusive set of all 3 that includes an extra crying face for Ash, but you will need a proxy to get it. Thankfully there are non-exclusives up for the rest of us! Ash retails for ¥4,500 and the Jessie & James set is ¥9,500, while the exclusive will cost you ¥13,000. All 3 are set for a July release. [via Tamashii nations]

  • Bandai’s Pokemon S.H.Figuarts line has been slow-moving but steady. It started out when they still used the D-Arts tag with the evolved Gen 1 starters and Mewtwo. Then we got Lucario, Mega Blaziken, and finally Pikachu last year. But it seems like they are finally, after many years, moving away from just the ‘mons. That’s right, it’s trainer time! At Tamashii Nations they showed off Ash, Jessie, and James (along with Meowth, of course). This opens up so much potential in the line! I wonder if they will go for Misty & Brock next, or move onto champions and gym leaders? [via AmiAmi’s Twitter]

  • Rogue One is still a ways away, but companies are already pumping out figure prototypes for it. Though given the success of The Force Awakens, I guess that’s really not surprising at all! Nor is it that Bandai is one of the first to hop on this brand-new bandwagon. They’re always very punctual. So far, they’ve announced five S.H.Figuarts: K-2SO (aka not-Laputa-robot), Death Trooper, Stormtrooper, Shoretrooper, and Hover Tank Driver (surely the breakout star of Rogue). I’m just hoping for an eventual figure of Mads’ character, whoever that might be. [via Tamashii Nations]

  • Bandai has already given us quite a few poseable figures of Sailor Moon: the original, a repaint, Super Sailor Moon, and the (possibly cancelled) Moon R version. But Sailor Moon has a million outfits and thus, the parade of Figuarts will continue indefinitely. While the constant repaints were getting a little tiring for me, I’m actually excited for this one: Sailor Moon in her Crystal style! I mean, I didn’t actually end up watching Crystal because let’s be honest, the animation in those first few episodes was so painfully bad and it hurt to see my waifu Mars like that, but I still adore that they went back to the original art style. And since the Figuarts don’t seem to have the production issues that the scaled ones do, this might actually be the Sailor Moon of my dreams! [via Tamashii Nations]

  • When you think of collaborations you’d like, it’s usually relatively similar things. Like Sailor Moon x Rayearth (my dream figure collab) or Zico x T.O.P. You know, stuff that logically works together. Not… uh, giant robots and giant dinosaurs. Who, I guess, are both giant, so… they have that in common… Yeah, this is just weird. And magical. It’s Godzilla (or Gojira, if you’re fancy/Japanese) with an Eva Unit-01 paintjob. This is the stuff dreams are made of. A fully poseable S.H. Figuarts is coming our way, but of course it’s a freaking exclusive with a pre-proxy price of ¥9,200. Ouch. But like, I don’t even care. I need this so very much. [via 1up]

  • Ranma 1/2 was one of the first anime I ever watched–and I’m sure for a lot of our readers, they feel the same way about it. Super nostalgic! While it was not my very first (that honor goes to Sailor Moon and Lodoss Wars) it’s damn close, and even though I’m not sure if it holds up to a modern viewing it holds a special place in my heart. So of course I’ve been really excited about all those Ranma figures that Bandai is making! First we got Girl Ranma, and now it’s Shampoo’s turn in the limelight. I definitely expected Boy Ranma to be the second release, but we’re sticking with the girl-theme and we’ll get Shampoo next. Sadly she doesn’t come with a lot of accessories: basically just ramen and extra faces. But still, so cute! And come on, Bandai knows we’d all buy this if she came with nothing. Orders open this week! [via Bandai]

  • We’ve already seen some of the juicier tidbits from Tamashii Nations (Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Ranma 1/2, Digimon) but of course they had a ton more! This is Bandai we’re talking about, one of the most prolific brands, and they brought figures in full force. Can you think of a license Bandai owns? There were probably figures from it at this event. Kantai Collection, One Piece, Saint Seiya, Kamen Rider, Gintama, Precure, Mega Man, Macross, Doraemon.. it’s all there, and tons more! The focus definitely seemed to be on Dragonball Z (not surprising since it has a new show), with a massive amount of merchandise. Including dead Goku! Which I am seriously excited about. No girls though, which is… unfortunate, but lots of muscley dudes. We also got the surprise (text-based) announcement that they will be doing Star Wars S.H.Figuarts–including Jabba the Hutt! [via 1up]

  • Ranma 1/2 is one of my favorite nostalgic anime, so of course I was over the moon when Bandai announced that they’d be making figures from it. Took long enough! Though we still don’t really have any Inu Yasha merchandise, this will have to do for now. And they brought a ton to Tamashii Nations! Of course there’s Girl Ranma and Boy Ranma along with the Genma Saotome, but we had two new additions as well: Akane Tendou and Shampoo! Aw yeah, Shampoo and her tiny cat. I love her kissing face, it’s just too much. [via 1up]

  • I have to say, I am shocked that this move took Bandai so long. They’ve been working on their Pokemon S.H.Figuarts line for years now, even though it seems to have come to a halt recently, and you’d really think this would be the first character they chose. But no, we got quite a few Pokemon and no Pikachu! Finally, that terrible wrong will be righted. Pikachu looks super adorable, if a little chunky, here. Of course the joints are a bit distracting (to me, at least), but we know that he’ll come with some good accessories! Or some extra faces, at the very least, which is always nice. They also showed off some of the older ones (Charizard, Blastoise, Venasaur, Mewtwo) with new effect parts. Re-release on the horizon, or will they release them separately? [via 1up]

  • So far, Bandai’s Mario S.H.Figuarts have been all about the heroes: we got Mario, Luigi, and Fire Mario. I honestly though we’d get another Mario variant next (Tanooki Mario?!), but nope–it’s Bowser! I guess this is villains week in the PVC world. For his tiny size, Bowser really looks great. Super detailed, and the joints don’t seem clunky. However, he is pretty light on accessories (alternate hands, mouths, & fireballs) and his price is sky-high. ¥6,000! Oh, and he’s exclusive. THANKS A LOT BANDAI. Seriously, I hate them as a company. Make everything you want exclusive and charge too much. He’s exclusive to the Tamashii shop, of course, and orders open October 9th.
