Saber Alter Archive

  • I predicted that Fate/Grand Order would be the most popular license at Wonder Festival, and I was right. I was too right, guys. WHY ARE THERE SO MANY OF THEM. This is just from Good Smile (and just what they put up before the show). Are you ready? We have the painted Berserker from Max Factory, and Saber Atilla from Good Smile Company. They also have the sculpt for Shuten Douji out. Nendoroid Lancer is painted, and Jeanne d’Arc is sculpted. We also have announcements for a Nendoroid of Jeanne d’Arc Alter/Santa Lily. What is these names, too confusing. Oh, and Alter/Lily/Jeanne is getting a scale from GSC too! As is Boobie Pony Saber (aka Lancer Altria), and Boobie Kitty (Shielder). Not enough Fate for you? Well, Max Factory is doing water gun bikini Saber (aka Artoria Pendragon) and Lancer. Then we have cute minis from Phat! Company. Phew! [via whl4u]

  • Alter has always been my favorite figure manufacturer, and while there have been times my heart was swayed by others (Max Factory! AlphaMax! Orchid Seed!), I come back to them time and time again because of their consistent quality and unique sculpts. And once again they brought it in force to MegaHobby with a variety of gorgeous sculpts, painted figures, and new announcements. Of course there were a few from their IDOLM@STER line: their Rin Shibuya (who looks basically identical to the GSC one, let’s be honest) is painted, and they brought out the sculpt for their perfect winged Ranko who I love with all my heart. And the boys were out in force! Rei and Ritsu Sakuma from Ensemble Stars!, Cecil Aijima from Uta no☆Prince-sama♪, Haruka Nanase and Tachibana Mako from Free!, and an announcement for 3 new Free! boys: Sousuke Yamazaki, Nagisa Hazuki, and Rei Ryuugazaki. Plus the brand-new Dio Eraclea from Last Exile. They also had a beautiful 1/6 scale figure of Takao, the cheesy but appealing Santa Saber Alter, Ikumi Mito finally sculpted, Lala Deviluke in a maid outfit, Plachta from the Atelier games, and two new announcements: Hikari Karibuchi from Brave Witches and Okoi from Oboro Muramasa! • Santa Alter, just put Excalibur under the tree, for me…. I’ve been an awful good girl~ So, Volks really loves Saber from Fate/Stay Night. We’ve gotten a ton of versions of her, including regular, Lily, Alter, and Extra. Now it’s time for one more! In a very strange choice (no Mordred?) they’ve gone with Santa Saber aka Rider. A real character from Fate/Grand Order. What is this franchise turning into?! In any case, this doll is basically Saber Alter (who, remember, was a pre-order doll so there are lots of her on the market!) in Christmas-themed clothing. Not their most exciting release, no? To be honest this seems like a shameless money grab: why not just release the outfit? Why not give us OG Rider, a Dollfie fans have been clamoring for? Or Caster/Caster Extra? The answer is money. • Good Smile Company had a small booth at San Diego Comic Con, but they managed to sneak in a few new goodies like Nathan Drake, the Suicide Squad Nendoroids, and Shredder & Bebop. But of course there was lots more going on! Many of the Wonder Festival exclusive figures were on display (and on sale!). They had the gorgeous huke Saber Alter, many of the newer Nendoroid & figma releases (especially video game related goodies), and that brand new Naruto announcement out & about. • If Good Smile Company & co comes out with a particularly large & elaborate figure, you can pretty much bet that it will be exclusive. The Heavy Armor KanColle girls? Exclusives. Sorceress? Exclusive. Cool armor and fancy bases seem to doom a figure to Wonderful Hobby Selection, and sadly GSC’s huke-designed Saber Alter has both of these. I’ve loved her since we first saw her, and of course she looked gorgeous at Wonder Festival. But now it’s time to decide how much I actually want her. Because at a cool ¥21,800 + ¥2,000 for shipping, she ain’t cheap. Orders are open now and you have until March 30th to make up your mind, with an August release slated (though we all know she’s going to hit serious delays).

  • Alter used to be a company known for their big, flashy, ornate figures. And they still make some, but most of their releases are small and understated, but still gorgeously detailed. Like the IDOLM@STER and Love Live! lines, both of which of course made an appearance at Wonder Festival. Of course they’re my favorite Alter figs of the event. Just so perfect, so detailed, so CAT GIRLS. Okay, I’m lying, the surprise bunny Sora is probably my favorite. We have two Sabers: a lovely dress version of Saber Alter and a causal school Saber. Two of their Tales figures are painted: Edna and Julius Will Kresnik. Another boy is there too! Leonard Watch, who looks so cute. Purple Heart is finally sculpted along with Ema Yasuhara. Not enough? We have announcements for 3 (!!) more IM@S ladies: Anastasia, Minami Nitta, and Ranko Kanzaki. Plus Plachta from Atelier Sophie. [via amiami]

  • You know what’s nice about Wonder Festival? Seeing all the figures in candid shots that don’t have any photoshopping. Sadly, GSC is kind of crushing that with their “hey let’s put up company shots of everything we have at Wonder Festival ALL AT ONCE!” Wow thanks guys. Great. Anyway, one of the first things they are showing off is that gorgeous Saber Alter designed by huke of Black Rock Shooter fame. She is beautiful painted, of course, though I fear that she will be one of their Wonderful Hobby Selection figures and like 20k+… [via Kahotan]

  • We’ve seen Alter’s Yuzuruha, but of course they had lots more at Megahobby Expo! I mean, they did just show off some stuff at that IDOLM@STER event but still, many goodies to be had. There were, of course, many of their Love Live! girls (seeing as how they are doing the whole cast): the Halloween Eri was there (which is technically Alpha x Omega), along with Maki Nishikino and Nozomi Tojou. We also have two Sabers: the previously announced Saber Alter is sculpted, and they’ve announced a new school uniform one. Personally, I don’t need any more Sabers, but man the dress on that Alter… The most exciting announcement (to me) is a dual figure of Charlotte and Laura from Infinite Stratos… as catgirls! It’s just too cute. We also have sculpts for Edna from Tales of Zestiria (who I seriously thought was another Saber), along with Julius Will Kresnik from Tales of Xillia 2. Gertrud Barkhorn, the last announced Strike Witch, is sculpted, and the rather risque Mea Kurosaki got a paint job along with Isuzu Sento. Check them all out below! [UPDATE] Added Yukina Himeragi from Strike the Blood [via whitenoize, prizeman_ufo & Hobby Search]

  • Good Smile is kind of the big boss of the figure world. They have tons of other sister companies, and seem to be absorbing more every day. Yet surprisingly, they take on less figures than companies like Max Factory. But of course they still had a lot to show off at WonFest! Including, of course, some Mikus. Two, in fact. There’s the more traditional Miku from the teasers, and then the gorgeous 2015 Racing Miku. Sabers? They got two! The Huke ver. Saber Alter (still unpainted) and a new Saber Bride. Kantai Collection? Of course! We are finally getting a figure of Bismark and Prinz Eugen as well. Plus an announcement for Yuudachi! Other random girls? Their Erina Nakiri and Eriri Spencer Sawamura both got updates. And then we have announcements. A LOT of announcements. We’re getting more IM@S Cinderella girls: Mio Honda, Uzuki Shimamura, and Rin Shibuya. Again, instead of doing… different girls? I guess? We’ll also be getting Megumi Katou from Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata, Alisa from God Eater, and Masami Utoku & Kuniko Shigyou from The Rolling Girls. [via GSC & Akibahobby]

  • Alter has a habit of disappointing me at Wonder Festivals, but it seems like they might be turning it around this year because I am loving most of the figures they brought! Which, of course, were numerous. We’ll start with painted figures: the gorgeous Chitoge Kirisaki is painted, along with Rin Hoshizora, Shinobu & the devil-version of Sen Tokugawa. Also, the amazing Tamako Market dual-figure is painted as well! There are a ton of sculpts including a surprise figure of Plamya-san, swimsuit Lorna, the Strike Witches we just found out about, and Haruna from Ars Nova (who is not painted yet, whyy). We also have two announcements: they’ll be doing yet another Saber Alter and also Niko Yazawa from Love Live. Velvet also made an appearance, though there only seem to be some small sculpting refinements. [UPDATE] Added their Yuuki Yuuna, Gotou Matabei, Swimsuit Lala, and more! Check them all out in the gallery! [via HLJ’s Tumblr]
