Saber Alter Archive

  • Good Smile once again came out swinging at Wonder Festival with a truly amazing number of figures, most of which already look fantastic! The one not-surprise is the painted Kiss-Shot, who we already knew was coming, but that doesn’t make me any less excited. I can finally finish my Monogatari set! Then we’ve got all the “really real news.” Least surprisingly, there will be two new Sabers: a second Saber Bride (maybe with a zipped-up dress?) and a Saber Alter designed by huke that looks out of this world amazing. That armor! There’s also, of course, a new Miku. Their Homura to match that dynamic Madoka is sculpted, and we have an (art) update of Sawamura Spencer Eriri. Out of left field there’s a Puzzle & Dragon figure of Hera-Ur, along with Utaha Kasumigaoka from Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata and PriPara‘s Lala Manaka. Announcements? We’ve got those too! They’ll be making a Devil Version of Amira from Shingeki no Bahamut, Kaori Miyazono from Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso, and finally Collete Livie from God Burst. But what about Kantai Collection? Well there’s a weird bust of Kongou and also a painted figure of Shigure. Phew! [UPDATE] As mentioned in the comments, they’ll be doing a Medusa version of Nadeko! [via GSC]

  • For a while now, Wave has been milking the Fate/Stay Night hype train with many, many bikini figures of Saber and her various incarnations. Not, you know, bikini Rider. Just endless Sabers along with a few other assorted characters (Caster Extra, Ilya, Rin). Now it’s time for EVEN MORE SABER. They have FOUR figures of her planned–or rather a figure of Saber, one of Saber Lily, then Saber Alter and of course Saber Extra. Unlike Wave’s usual fare, these are not Beach Queens. Shocking, right? They’re part of the Dream Tech line and are “lingerie versions” based on this illustration. Dream Tech is a 1/8 scale line, not Wave’s usual tiny 1/10, and I love the lying down poses. I really don’t need any more Saber in my life but I kind of want them… and, of course, for a matching Unlimited Blade Works Rin. [via Wave’s Blog]

  • The FREEing Yukata Fate/Stay Night girls didn’t get a whole lot of love from figure collectors, but I found something about them very appealing–especially Saber Alter, the last to be released. Which is a bit funny because Saber, the first, happens to be my least favorite of the 5. I’ve been planning on shooting Alter since she first arrived, but it took a while to work out the right idea. I mean, it’d be cool if we lived in Japan and could take her to an actual festival, but I settled on a pond. Thought to someone so small, I bet it looks like a lake! Hit the jump to check out my full shoot of this beautiful figure, which I think is really a hidden gem–definitely the best in the line.

  • Every time I order a figure of Saber I become absolutely convinced that it will be the very last one. I don’t need any more figures of her, I have enough. Tons of Saber Alter, Saber Lily, Saber Extra, even some Saber Bride. And Dollfies. I’m Saber’d out. Or am I? The new Ichiban Kuji ask this important question. Turns out, no, I don’t have enough. Because I don’t have a figure of her with a badass crown and cape in her full King Arthur glory. Or a figure of Alter in her fancy dress. Or one of her in her school uniform. God damn you Banpresto. • Sometimes I wonder how Good Smile Company (and Max Factory and Phat! and FREEing) decide how many Nendoroids they are going to make in the next six months. Drinking game? A friendly round of poker? Punch Buggy? Because oh my god there are so many kill me now it’s just too much why god whyyy. As you can tell, I am not having fun collecting Nendoroids anymore. It’s overwhelming and not enjoyable. Turn the volume down a little GSC. Please. Since there is so much (and I just rambled on for a paragraph) let’s dive in! We showed you Saber Extra, Alter, Bride, and Gilgamesh, along with Toon Link & Luigi and the Titan Nendoroids, but there are so many more (a few of which were in Mikatan’s teasers). From Touhou we have Aya and Yukari (FINALLY), the Devil Survivor MC is sculpted (with BYAKKO) along with Aegis, we’ve got all the summer Vocaloids, two more Bakemonogatari Nendoroids (Mayoi and Kanbaru), Tooka Yatogami, Iron Man, Chris Yukine, Fang Lin Yin and Rina Ozawa. But there are brand new, never before seen Nedoroids as well! Shimakaze from Kantai Collection ~Kan Colle~, Tomoko Kuroko from Watashi ga Motenai, Kuroko Shirai from To Aru Kagaku no Railgun, Yukari Akiyama from Girls und Panzer, Uzume Uno from Fantasista Doll, Akari Taiyou & Seira Hoshikawa from Genei o Kakeru Taiyou, Black Gold Saw, Chariot, a new Monster Hunter, Mana Kamaishi & Marina Matoba from Tetsudou Musume, Erica Fontaine from Sakura Wars, and Shinku from Rozen Maiden. Then there’s more Nendoroid Plus effect parts and a few Petit sets. Check them all out below! [via Good Smile Company’s WonFest Page and HMV_Anime’s Twitter]

  • We knew there would be at least one new Fate/Stay Night Nendoroid at Wonder Festival since Mikatan had already teased Saber Alter, but it seems like we are getting way more than I expected! Of course the Saber Extra Nendoroid, which recently went up for order, is here as well, but there are two new announcements–Saber Bride… and Gilgamesh! A GUY! And as you can see in the other side of the display, it’s more than just Nendoroids. Good Smile Company or one of their umbrella companies (please be Max Factory) is picking up the garage kit I adore of Pajama Saber, and it seems like they also have the new sculpt out for figma Archer! We’ll update with new pics as soon as we ha have them. [UPDATE] Updated with clearer pictures! [via Figure/GK]

  • I’ve gotten to a point where I really hate Wonder Festival teasers. It’s like when you are a little kid and you peek at your Christmas presents: it ruins the surprise! But Good Smile Company just loves to bombard us with teaser after teaser, and Mikatan went all out this year so let’s dive right in. We have peeks at only two scaled figures, the just-announced Uzuki Shimamura and yet another Madoka Kaname (kill me now), this time a dynamic version of her in her regular outfit! It’s based on art of all 5 of the main girls… you know what that means. As for Nendos, we have a ton. Quite a few from last WonFest are updated: Aegis is scupted, Strength is painted & sculpted, Aya is finished, and Rina Ozawa is sculpted! As for the new we’ve got Mikasa Ackerman from Attack on Titan (no surprise there), Makoto Naegi from Dangan Ronpa (who is only kind of new because we’ve seen him before), Saber Alter, Tomoko Kuroki from Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaete mo Omaera, and Sakura Mai from Photokanon. But don’t worry, I’m sure they’ve got 20 other new Nendos to show off at the event. [via Mikatan]

  • We just saw this figure at MegaHobby Expo, but here she is again–all in promo pictures and ready for orders which open on the 29th! Oops, I usually save that info for the end so you read through my ramblings. Oh well. Anyway, if you’re still here, I’m quite enamored with this figure despite some of the criticism it’s getting (which is mainly that we have too many Sabers). Okay, so the main criticism-that this looks too much like the Wave Beach Queen-is perfectly legitimate. Of course at 1/6 scale this version is twice as big and twice as detailed. Pretty much everything I prefer on the Alter version. The pose, the outfit, the hair, the bow, the icepop, it’s all just better! Except for the face, which I’ll admit Wave got just a bit cuter. But I guess Alter isn’t exactly supposed to be endearing, is she? [via Alter’s Blog]

  • I’ll admit, when we first got word that Alter would be doing a swimsuit version of Saber Alter I wasn’t exactly happy. I mean, it’s the same swimsuit and almost the same pose as the Wave Beach Queen. Sure, it’s Alter so the quality will be a million times better and she’s a generous 1/6 scale, but do I really need a big swimsuit Alter in my life? After seeing her painted, turns out the answer is yes! Who would have thought that I’d be craving yet another Saber after feeling almost worn out by so many of them. But I do love Alter almost as much as Lily, and the sulky pose combined with her pale white skin really is lovely. We should see orders soon, since she’s slated for a fall release. • Alter sure does love their Sabers. It seems like they have endless variations of her at every event, and we’ve got two at Wonder Festival. One is new: a bikini figure of Saber Alter that looks suspiciously like Wave’s Beach Queen. Same art? Either way, I’m disappointed: this is not the Saber I wanted, Alter! Then we have their Saber Lily, looking lovely painted. Even though I have the garage kit, I can’t wait for orders to open up! [via Highruner’s Twitter]
