Summer Wonder Festival 2012: Volks’ Sakura Shinguji

Sakura Wars/Sakura Taisen‘s main heroine Sakura Shinguji sure is popular recently, with a Nendoroid and Dollfie Dream on the way! However, it’s been quite a while since we got a scaled Sakura and there certainly aren’t any high-quality versions of her out there for fans this is a blessing as well as a curse!

Sadly, we have a lot of bad news for all you doll collectors out there. Firstly, Miki and Haruka will NOT be seeing a US release, in fact they aren’t even confirmed for an international release yet. A shame, since I was really looking forward to Miki. The second bit of bad news is that they’ve changed their exchange rate: while dolls used to be about $600 on the USA site, Sakura is $811! This is a project that they’ve been hyping for months and months, so we can guess that a lot more work went into her than other DD releases.

The level of detail is clear in her outfit, weapon, and wig, which look amazing. However, I am so not sold on the face as it looks nothing like Sakura. Granted, I don’t require my DDs to look identical to the character, but not only is she very un-Sakura, she also looks like several of Volks’ previous releases (the DDH-06 and Reimu). I was hoping for something unique for her, though I’m sure she will still sell very well. Her retail will be ¥59,000 and she’ll be released at the event, which takes place August 12th. There’s a nasty rumor floating around that she might be event-only (i.e. no lottery) but it has yet to be confirmed.

[via the DD Blog]

Laughing at the ridiculous premise (Japan is being attacked and only actresses who pilot mechas can save it!) and absolutely adoring the cheesy fun. It also has some great and now-classic game designs, especially its heroine Sakura Shinguji. It’s the 15th anniversary of the series so she is getting a lot of love from figure manufacturers with both a Dollfie Dream and this Nendoroid in the works. We first saw the Nendo unveiled at Wonder Festival and I’ve been really anticipating her ever since.

Sakura only comes with a few faces and accessories: there’s her happy face, a fighting face, and a sword. But the last accessory really makes up for the seeming sparseness (and will probably jack up the price)–her mecha, Koubu! This is an amazing figure, and of course you can fit Sakura (and many other Nendoroids) inside of it. Sakura herself is also quite lovely, with some beautiful print-work on her kimono. And considering how many Nendo faces are already out there her limited options don’t seem so bad: personally, the first thing I am going to do with her is put her in Koubu with Saber’s infamous Tantrum face! These two should be going up sometime this week.

[via Mikatan]
