Another week, another roundup! What happened to last week’s, you ask? My dog ate it.
You probably don’t know this but I tend to write the intro for these after everything else is done, and am terrified that one day I will forget and one of my stupid placeholder sentences like “some words” or “a few butts” will pop up on the front page instead. But today is not that day! Today is the day I ramble because we have really slim pickings. Sure, there are some nice figures, but it seems like none of the big companies came out to play. No scaled figures from Alter, Kotobukiya, Good Smile Company, Max Factory, even Phat! or Daiki. But of course there are some nice figures–check them out after the jump!
Kotobukiya didn’t have anything new on display at the Miyazawa Model Exhibition this year, but they did bring along a whole ton of figures that are up for order like Fire Sakuya, Kuroyukihime, Vash the Stampede, the Yotsuba & KOS-MOS kits, the controversial Dark Magician, and Cu-Poches Haruka & Madoka. Even some Bishoujos showed up, like Jaina Solo and Jaycee, so check them all out in the gallery!

As a huge fan of Tony Taka’s art, Kotobukiya’s giant new Sakuya was one of the Wonder Festival highlights for me. Even after the shock of her ¥12,000 pricetag as revealed in magazine scans, my hopes were still high, and I think these new promotional shots really deliver! Yes, she’s very expensive, but she’s also 13 inches of awesome with a giant sword and an intricate base. I still love her sculpt, and the color palette they chose mimics Taka’s soft illustration very well. If anything, she will go very well with Yamato’s 1/6 Maxima! Actually, I think those two would make a gorgeous display set. And while Sakuya is expensive, I am very happy to see the continuation of the 1/6 scale Shining World line.
When Kotobukiya teased a fire colorway of Sakuya, you could almost hear the collectors groan. ANOTHER version of her? Well, guys, turns out this isn’t a recolor, it’s a totally new sculpt, and in glorious 1/6 scale. The sculpt looks great, and I’m happy they went bigger here as she’ll go well with the Yamato Maxima.

Personally, I have mixed opinions on all these Wonder Festival teasers: I like the hype, but I also wish they’d save everything for surprise reveals! On the other hand, let’s assume that Kotobukiya will have more than 4 figures on display… cause those are all the teasers we are getting from them! 2 are figures we know about as well: the first is their bunny Charlotte, who is already up for order, perhaps hinting at another in the line? Like bunny Laura? The second is the Fire Version Sakuya, who we already know about from magazine scans.
There are two new “reveals” as well: the first is Ichika Takatsuki from Ano Natsu in a swimsuit, along with Rinon. I really disliked the Beach Queen and AlphaMax’s version so I am looking forward to this! Then there’s the big reveal: Kuroyukihime from Accel World in her full butterfly ensemble. I wonder how many companies are going to have figures of her at the event?

This month’s magazine scans have been pure ridiculousness. We got an early leak, then some very messy scans, and then the real scans. Now we’re getting more blurry cellphone shots, but it’s of yet another batch of figures we hadn’t seen yet! Seriously Japan, get it together.
This set is almost entirely new figures. FREEing is taking on the main Nanoha 3 (Fate, Nanoha & Hayate) in 1/4 scale, this time in bunny outfits! GSC and Gift already collaborated on a 1/4 swimsuit set, but these ones look much better with sharper sculpts. They will be ¥12,800 each with Nanoha hitting shelves in November. Then we’ve got a Kira Yamato G.E.M from MegaHouse, unsurprising given their already up for order Athrun. In a surprising turn of events, Orchid Seed showed off a fully sculpted but until now unannounced figure: a 1/6 scale of Alleyne from Queen’s Blade in a swimsuit. As usual I love the sculpt, but what about the 10+ other figures still in art stage?! Speaking of QB, we’ve also got a MegaHouse figure of Alicia from the spinoff Queen’s Blade: Grimoire.
We’re going to be getting a 3rd version of Sakuya/Maxima from Kotobukiya, this time in her fiery red outfit from Shining Blade. You can check out the art for it in the gallery! In the same vein, Yamato’s Maxima is finally painted. There are also a few more completed figures and sculpts: MegaHouse’s Kagura is also painted, Native showed off the sculpt for their Sasaki, MegaHouses’s Medaka is completed, and Art Spirits’ Saya seems to be ready for orders. Phew, that’s a lot of extra stuff! Seems like a lot of figures that have been unfinished for a while are getting a last-minute boost in order to get them up before Wonder Festival.

Toy’s Works’ Niitengo line takes popular anime characters and chibifies them into painfully adorable creations. Their sets are usually a bit pricey, but this exclusive mega-set takes the cake. The Heroine Blitz Figure Collection is a set of 20 popular anime heroines, including characters like Kino, Shana, Osaka, Kirino, Taiga, Holo, Henrietta, and a whole lot more! We only have art now, but they are all looking pretty fantastic. And at ¥12,000 for the lot, they better look good! The bad news (yes, the price wasn’t the bad news): this is an exclusive, so you’ll have to pay proxy fees as well. And to top it off, they won’t be released until March of 2013!

Dopla 27 is May 6th in Japan, which means it’s pretty much time to get all of your info together if you plan on entering for any of the limited dolls! There are three Dollfie Dreams at Dolpa 27, but the US is only getting 2 of them: Cirno is Japan-only, but there’s rumors that she will be available in the International lottery. Sakuya is priced at $715, $100 extra because of her sword: personally, it annoys me when DDs are priced extra for their armor or weapons as I only keep them in their stock for a few days. Rise will be a more reasonable $605. Of course there are SDs too: SDGrG Jun will be $1,067 and SDGou Yukinoujo is $1,595 but will be a pre-order item for Volks USA members, which means no lottery!
As for Sakuya, Rise, and Jun, the lottery opens on May 6th at 11AM PST and will run until May 9th at 11AM PST. Remember that if you win, a hold will be put on your credit card–so make sure you have enough money before you pull the trigger! The pre-orders for Yukinojo open at the same time but close on the 26th. The Dolpa 27 outfits are not part of the lottery like usual, and will be released in a special After-Event right after the Dopla (and 3 months later in the US). Rise is the only one Stephen & I have our eyes on this time, as Sakuya just falls out of our price range–though those extra shots of her are making me re-think going in on a split!
