  • Sometimes it seems like no toy is ever really perfect. Like no one figure can meet all your expectations. A character you love, modeled and sculpted to perfection with an accurate face, great detailing, AND one that is fully poseable that won’t break down due to wear and tear after a month? That also has a reasonable price? It can’t be done, you say! Oh, well, I think it can. We here at Plastikitty have found the solution to this figure dilemma. Get a live one. In fact, it turns out the perfect figure has been under our noses this whole time. So today, we will be reviewing the pinnacle of figure success: my Cat™, Samkin. Hit the jump to get this party started!

  • When I did the Yoko Kurama review, I mentioned a little assistant. A little furry assistant who did not so much “assist” as he did “get in the way and shove the figure over at every given opportunity.” Because, you know, that’s just how cats roll. What is this thing? Is it mine? Why are you paying attention to it? Can it pet me? Let me rub up against it! Look it fell over! Let’s do it again! Whenever I shoot outdoors the kitties invariably get in the way. This time it was Sam, like it usually is–he is my cat, after all, and though he can be annoying as heck he’s just SO CUTE look at his smiley little face how can you not love him? So I may or may not have taken a break from the shoot for cat pictures. Possibly. You can find out in the gallery!

  • It seems I am literally incapable of doing an outdoor shoot at my house and not taking pictures of my cats. Seriously, it’s like an addiction. If there was a cat picture rehab, I’d totally be eligible–but I wouldn’t go, because the world needs more cat pictures. Always. This time it’s three for the price of one: Samkin, my squishy baby who usually hogs all the attention, and his two siblings: Maddy, the teeny gray girl kitty, and Cornelius, the adorably stupid butterscotch weirdo. Okay, so there’s only like two shots of Maddy, but she seriously will not stay still for photos. She’s a terrible model. I’m sorry Maddy, you are NOT going to be America’s Top Kitty Model.

  • My cats tend to get in the way when I’m taking photos. A lot. You know how cats are: they want attention at the most inopportune of times, and they can somehow sense when that attention is directed at something else. Like, oh, the figure you are trying to take pictures of. But one loo at a fluffy little face and your heart melts: how can you be mad at a silly furball? Samkin, the official Plastikitty mascot, seems most intent to butt his head (literally) into the camera. However, cats are awesome photography subjects… even if you do get distracted and end up running around after then for 15 minutes and totally forget your review. But look at his happy little face. Look at it! How am I supposed to resist the lure of Sam?!

  • You may have noticed that here at Plastikitty, we really like cats. Like, a whole lot. After all, we are Plastikitty. Our mascot is actually based on a real life animal: my cat Samkin, who is indeed pink! Not hot pink: he’s a champagne tabby, so he’s a soft, washed out sort of pink. I’ve had him since he was ten days old: his mom tried to eat him (true story!) and I ended up handraising him and two of his siblings who are bound to pop up on the site sooner or later. You probably picked up on the fact that I absolutely cannot resist taking pictures of Sam if he appears in the middle of a figure photoshoot, like he did with Asuna and Kitty Pryde. I ended up with quite a few shots that I just couldn’t rationalize sticking in the middle of a review, so they get their own post! Action shots of Sam hunting a squirrel! So sit back, relax, and coo over how cute he is. So ferocious! Go get that squirrel, Sam!
