The most consistently awesome thing about MegaTen (aside from the music) is the monster design, and it’s pretty damn clear that major manufacturers won’t be taking on these weirdos any time soon. So FuRyu has been a godsend in this department, bringing us everything from the painfully cute to the totally weird–and Satan is probably the crown jewel of this line (so far, at least!).

We’ve seen him painted before, but not so up close and personal! Looking at the detail, it’s kind of amazing that he costs a mere $14 at the current exchange rate. I’ve paid over $100 for figures with less detail *cough*FREEing*cough*! Satan is set for an August release, and while pre-orders are pretty much sold out everywhere he’s sure to pop up on the aftermarket. I can’t wait to see what baddies they show off at the next prize fair!

[via Dengeki Hobby]

They are currently the only company making the monster designs from the Shin Megami Tensei series (not counting the main character Personas), though back in the day Kotobukiya had a line of minifigures revolving around them. Hint hint… get back to that, Koto!

Anyway, as we know FuRyu’s latest offering in this series is the awesome Satan, one of my favorite monsters in the game. We only saw him unpainted, but now we’re getting a look at what will arrive on our doorsteps in a few months! He looks great, and I really do think these are some of the highest-quality prize figures around. Good job, FuRyu!

[via Dengeki]

    Magazine Scans: February 2013

So far we’ve gotten quite a few: Shiva & Thor, Cerberus, Beelzebub & Loki, The Harlot & Alice with Jack Frost, and most recently Mokoi, Black Frost and Mothman. Now we have one more addition: Satan, a definite fan favorite!

He’s got one of the best (and most risque) monster designs, and of course the figure is HUGE–11.7″ tall. And since it’s a prize, you don’t have to pay an arm and a leg! In fact he is up on Big In Japan for a very reasonable price and will come out in August. Between these and Taito’s Persona line, I really think prizes are the best option for SMT fans!

FuRyu’s New Shin Megami Tensei Prize Figure Is Satan

FuRyu’s slow but steady Shin Megami Tensei line has been giving fans what they have been asking for for years: figures of the monsters!

However, Leviathan is a sea monster and Lucifer is an angel so it is a bit odd that they are all “devils”–I blame that on the confusing history of Demonology, though. They are drawn as women both busty and flat-chested which you can check out in the gallery. As you’d expect from niθ the designs are stunning, and I think these will make some killer figures.

Unlike last time, Hobby Japan is pairing up with Orchid Seed for this project. I think they are a better choice than Alter after looking at the designs, as demon girls are something Orchid is very good at (plus we get the added bonus of cast-off).
