Revolver Girl, a figure designed by Rotobox and manufactured by KusoVinyl, got her debut at last year’s San Diego Comic Con. It seems like the second colorway will be coming to the event as well! They have six designs up for her, and it seems like fans will have some say in what version is chosen for production. A nice gesture to be sure.
Except… don’t the designs look a little familiar? Yeah, that’s Black Rock Shooter and Miku Hatsune you’re looking at (along with one that looks very Kill Bill inspired). Of course this won’t be an issue if they have the licensing, but given that Rotobox is known for the Gundam customs that obviously don’t have licensing (being a custom) I’m not so sure on that front. Granted, if it is approved, I think having some Miku vinyl would be pretty cool.

Their two most popular franchise, Final Fantasy, was out in force with plushes and cute little minifigures! The chibis seem to be similar to Nendoroids in that you can swap their faces and they have some limited poseability… Nendo-style seems to be all the rage this day, huh? My favorite thing is definitely the big plush Tonberry. However, the Play Arts Kai line of it has been going on for quite some time and seems very popular… unsurprising, given how big the games are. At SDCC they had a few characters on display, including Solidus Snake, Meryl Silverburgh, Raiden, and the event-exclusive Cyborg Ninja. For SDCC they were showing off their new Spartan Warrior and Master Chief (who I used to think was Master Chef, no joke), both of which are pending licensor approval. We’ve got Batman, Robin, Catwoman, the Joker and Harley based on the <em>Arkham City</em> game designs, along with the black and white colorways of Batman and the Joker that they had on sale at the event. I really wish Catwoman had her top zippered up, though I understand it’s based on the game where she is busting out. Of course they weren’t about to stop there, and they had Ibuki and Guile on display at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, along with black colorways of Ryu and Chun-Li along with a blue Cammy! Well, here it is! We got to get up close and personal with the line, and I have to say Tali has totally won me over. I think the faces on the humans aren’t entirely on point, but Tali and Garrus just look amazing! If you recall they were finished at that time, though the prototypes at San Diego Comic Con were of the unpainted variety. However, I think the faces look better here, definitely more refined and truer to the characters! These seem to be selling well, so we’ll probably get a few more characters in the line. Even companies that work almost exclusively on Japanese titles, like Square-Enix, are getting involved! They’ve done Play Arts Kai based on the <em>Arkham Asylum/City</em> game designs before, but now it’s time for some <em>The Dark Knight Rises</em> figures! I think generally faces are a weak point on action figures, but thankfully most of the designs include masks of some type so they don’t detract from the overall look. So far Bane and Batman are sculpted, with a Catwoman on the way: Bane in particular looks awesome!
